WELCOME
SALTDEAN UNITED FC
Good afternoon and welcome back to Hill Park in what should be a cracker of a game today! We would like to give a warm welcome to our opponents, officials and supporters for today’s game.
Last week week we had a dissapointing result against AFC Acorns and conceded in the last five minutes of our FA cup tie. The girls knew it wasn’t a performance to be proud of and have worked extra hard in training this week ready for today’s game against our local rivals.
Our DS are back in action as they face ‘The View’ in the league cup this afternoon at Braypool.
A couple of familiar faces will be on show for our opponents today, Niamh Andersson and Chloe Winchester come back to Hill Park after their move away in the summer. Two girls who were a big part of our club and we wish them well, just not today!
On Wednesday afternoon we recieved some massive news that our ‘Legacy Project’ had been given full approval by Brighton and Hove City Council. Over two years of hard work was finally rewarded which will see the club have a brand new stadium including a 3G pitch, new spectator stand, two storey clubhouse with a viewing balcony and medical room. This will lgive the club excellent facilities for not just the players, but the community of Saltdean.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of the legacy team who have worked so hard to get this over the line. It really will push the club forward in offering women and girls more opportunities and we cannot wait for the build to begin.
Thanks for your continued support. Enjoy the game!

Derby Day. It’s as simple as that.
It’s days like these that are for many reasons what all the hard work is for.
For the group it’s a chance to put aside the last two results, It’s an opportunity for the players to really go out and embrace the atmosphere and tension that days like this create. To push themselves both physically and mentally. Enjoy the rivalry that is between the teams. For many they will play against players that they have played with previously so this will only add to the focus needed.
Along with this weeks focus being on to days game , we have also had some very positive and progressive news for the club. This being the unanimous decision to accept the clubs application for our new stadium which will include a fully enclosed 4g pitch , a brand new seating stand , as well as a duel purpose built clubhouse /match day facilities for players.
This really does show the direction the club is being pushed in , the aspiration the whole club has to progress and create the best opportunities for all to succeed.
CAPTAIN’S NOTES
GEORGIA BRIDGES
Firstly we welcome you to the incredible news that the the Brighton & Hove City Council Planning Committee voted unanimously in support of our planning application. The proposal includes plans for a state-of-theart 3G pitch, a new spectator stand with covered seating, a new clubhouse with changing facilities, and improved parking and cycle parking.
The girls and I were, as you can imagine, delighted to hear the news earlier on in the week. THANK YOU to all the volunteers who have been working extremely hard behind the scenes on the ‘Saltdean United Legacy’ plans over the past few years. YOU DID IT!!
No more Saltdean bobble!!!
Now we turn our focus to today which is the local derby and everybody loves a local derby! Worthing have had a successful start to the season but many of
us have played with or against members of their team so we know what they are about. We’ve pulled our socks up from our losses against Sutton in the league and Acorns in The FA cup and the girls are buzzing for todays game.
Enjoy the game and get behind your Tigers loud and proud, we need to hear you today!
“We’ve pulled our socks up from our losses and the girls are buzzing for today’s game.”
GET TO KNOW MIA HYLAND
Mia, you signed for the Tigers this Summer, what made you choose Saltdean United Women FC?
I chose to sign for Saltdean this summer because I instantly knew I wanted to up my game after finishing my final year at university. I had more time to commit to a higher league and I wanted to play against more challenging teams than my previous club, and I was especially drawn to the higher level coaching that I’ve received in order to progress my footballing ability. I was sold after the first training session because the girls and the coaching were great and I knew I was where I wanted to be!
You missed a few games due to injury, how are you feeling now you are back fit?
I was gutted to get injured during the last game of pre-season, but Becky the wizard has fixed me up and I’m so happy to be back and playing with the girls whilst getting some minutes in the tank. It was hard watching all the girls play whilst recovering on the side but it’s only made me more determined to get fitter and work hard to be in the starting line up for the remainder of the season.
The league this season is very strong, a number of players are stepping down from tier 3/4 to play. A mixed start for the Tigers, how have you found it?
For me, I can easily see we have the talent, the quality, and focus to be one of the contenders for the title but like all leagues there are challenging teams and players that we will come across that also will battle for the title. It’s been hard coming into the midst of the season only playing two gamestwo tough games that we’ve had to battle for and unfortunately hasn’t gone our way, but I back our girls and coaches to get us there regardless of well known names in this league. We’re still a new team finding our feet, and collectively I think we have a lot more to give and results will speak for itself!

Massive news with the approval of our new stadium this week, are you excited? I’m very excited about the approval of the plans to build the stadium! It’s always great to have quality facilities which this club is providing for the girls. It’s very rare to see a club like Saltdean constantly trying to provide the most they can for a group of young women like using power guns from our sponsors and of course implementing the stadium! It’ll be a great feeling for us to experience the game in the new stadium with all of our Saltdean fans!
It was a fantastic summer with the Lionesses winning the Euros! How do you think this is going to help women’s football moving forward? It was brilliant wasn’t it! I’ve never been happier than to see the female footballing community more supported than ever before and for ladies to bring it home! It’s already starting to impact women’s football drastically I think and hopefully it just shows all the young girls who may think they can’t play football because it’s historically viewed as the ‘men’s game’- that they can and should pursue it!
What is your best footballing memory of your career?
I think my best footballing memory of my career is definitely all the times I went and trialled for Brighton Centre of Excellence but didn’t end up getting in. Then when I was playing for Gillingham COE every time without fail I always scored against them when we played! There are definitely more I could share but this one always makes me smile because even though at the time I felt rejected, I’d always scored and we always beat them!!. Oh, and definitely the time my 4 week old pup got cuddled by John Terry whilst we were playing against Chelsea, that’s a good one too!
Who is your football icon and why?
ELLA TOOONE. She is just pure class and her lashes are lush!!
Worst banter in the dressing room?
Worst banter is everyone except me, especially that Molly Hill.... jeezeee it’s nearly as bad as her crocs fetish.

Welcome back after what seems a long time!
Since we were last here, the DS have started their league campaign and begun their challenge for the cup. On the 4th September we experienced a tough game against Hassocks LFC in which we had a very disappointing loss of 6-1. However, last Sunday the DS had a much more positive result as we defeated Denne Park Women in Horsham and now proceed to the next round of the cup!
Our next game is the next round of the cup in which we have been drawn against, The View Ladies. This will take place at their ground on the 9th of October, we’d love to see you there!
In the meantime we look to train hard and come to support the first team in their game against Sutton.
Up The Tigers!
