WELCOME SALTDEAN UNITED FC
Good afternoon and welcome back to Hill Park in what is our second home game in as many weeks.
Last week we had an emphatic win against New London Lionesses, winning 6-1. It was a result that had been coming for many weeks and with the hard work the coaches and players have been putting on the training pitch, it was clear to see there was confidence in the air.
Today’s opponents will be tough after coming down last season. It is the first time we have played Enfield in the clubs history and we will be ready for the battle. Our DS have a week off as there has been a reshuffle to the league which will see Shoreham and Bognor respectively move in to the Sussex Premier division.
The DS are still looking for a couple of more players to add to the their squad. If you are interested in a new challenge or want to get your boots back on after some time away, please get in touch.
Our U12’s face Southwick this week and will be looking to continue their excellent development in their first season together. It has been great to see the support from parents and players really pushing the girls on.
Today also sees the return of European Champion, Faye Wiliams! If you get the chance, please do congratulate her on such an amazing achievement with the England Deaf Futsal team.
Thanks for your continued support. Enjoy the game!
MANAGER
ZAK DOVE
Hi and welcome back to hill park, today will be another high quality game. As a group we took plenty of positives from last week, with a performance and result that has been coming for far too long. We are really confident that we can continue to implement the things that we have been working on.
We all know that Enfield will be a well organised side but we are ready and prepared to take this game which will enable us to move further up the table.
We want to continue building something special after the success of last weekends win and I believe we have the side to do this.
Finally following up on my comments from last weekend I want to give a special mention to Faye who is part of the team who WON the Euro’s against Spain in the Euro’s Deaf Futsal Final!
We are all so proud of Faye & the team and are immensely proud to have her as a vital part of our team.
CAPTAIN’S NOTES
GEORGIA BRIDGES
Well wasn’t last week fun and very well deserved!
Like I said in my captain notes before the New London Lionesses game, the whole club have felt a shift in this group which definitely showed last week, especially in our second half performance. Players are coming back from injury, new signings are starting to get into the Saltdean groove and the spring chickens (apparently not me any more as pointed out by numerous Tigers recently) of the group are playing with more confidence.
I want to call out a stand out performance from Ruby against New London Lionesses, this was also recognised by her teammates as she won Players Player of the Match, an internal award we give at the end of each game.
The league is tight, put it this way, if we hadn’t dropped the silly points we have this season 5 points would put us joint top… hindsight ey!
We’re focused and determined to stop dropping these points, keep concentrated for the full 90+ min utes and take our chances.
We’re going into this game against Enfield with confidence and want to continue this momentum we are starting to build. It will be a tough contest today against a side who were not meant to be relegated but were forced into it due to league structure.
3 points is a must again today.
As you always do, get behind your Tigers!

GET TO KNOW RUBY MELIS
Ruby, being one of the youngest members of our squad, and making the switch from Steyning to Saltdean, how have you found the step up?
At first the step up felt quite overwhelming and I was unsure if it was the right move, however with the support and reassurance of the coaches and players I am loving the challenge of playing stronger teams each week!
Why did you make the decision to move this season?
I decided to make the move to Saltdean as I knew I needed to challenge myself a bit more and get experience playing higher level football as I am planning to move out to America next year to play at college level.
You are captain of the BHASVIC Academy side which has a great pathway in to senior football with the Tigers, how is it mixing both?
I am very grateful to be captain of BHASVIC and it is a massive achievement for me. I am also very grateful to Joe as he was the person who introduced me to Saltdean. I love being part of both teams and having the connection and link to both clubs which help me feel that I have a bigger support and understanding of how to improve, whilst the coaches also having good communication of the miners I get and how I perform.

The league this season is very strong, a number of players are stepping down from tier 3/4 to play. We have started the season quite mixed, how have you found it?
Definitely been some ups and downs of this season so far, the start was quite difficult for me to fully understand the best for the team, however I feel now we have found our feet and I believe we will continue to become stronger and stronger.
It was a fantastic summer with the Lionesses winning the Euros! How do you think this is going to help women’s football moving forward?!
The lionesses winning the Euros was a massive achievement and a huge step forward for women’s football. I believe now finally people are seeing the womens game as equal to the mens. This is also inspires young girls to can get involved and grow the game even more, I just hope that when I am older all womens and mens teams will be shown as equal across the world and I do believe the lionesses have made this a closer reality.
You have plans to travel to America next year to continue your football journey, how much are you looking forward to that?
I cannot wait to go out to the US, I have been wanting to do this since I heard about Alessia Russo playing for North Carolina in 2017. To play at a high level out in America and travel across the country to play other teams is the dream!
