THE TIGERS Saltdean United vs New London Lionesses Sunday 23rd October | 2pm | L&SERWFL Premier Programme 05

WELCOME SALTDEAN UNITED FC

Good afternoon and welcome back to Hill Park in what is the first of two home games in as many weeks.

Since our last programme, we had a very dissapointing result against Worthing. On the day we were beaten by the better team and they ran out convincing winners. It was much improved last Sunday as we faced AFC Acorns for the third time this season. After quite a dominant first half and going two nil up, we ended the game with only a point.

Today’s opponents are ones we always have a good battle against. Although the league table may suggest they are struggling, they always give us an excellent contest and we will need to be on it from the off to secure the three points we need.

The DS are back at home today (BACA) and face Burgess Hill Ladies. The league seems to be decreasing in size each week and it is a shame that the girls only get to play every few weeks. However the main aim of developing the girls and pushing them to the first team is one that is working well.

No game for our U12’s this week as they get a well deserved rest. It has been excellent to see them playing with a smile on their faces and doing really well in a league that is very strong. They have a couple of wins under their belt already and are really starting to per form well as a team.

Thanks for your continued support. Enjoy the game!

ZAK DOVE

Hi and welcome back to Hill Park for the first of two back to back home games for us.

After a tough little run, we definitely started to look back to our normal selves last Sunday, we started to play the type of football that we pride ourselves on, we create a silly amount of chances, and we are a little disappointed to not get the win.

However we have spoke over the week as a group and agreed that it was a really positive step in the right direction with the performance, we also are looking to have a couple of players coming back into the squad after injuries, but also a few have been playing with knocks and niggles, so with these also slowly starting to clear up, we really do feel we can kick on now.

Lastly I would like to give a special mention to our very own Faye Williams, who is currently away representing England at the Euro Deaf Futsal competition, they beat Spain in the final and have now become Europen Champions! Everyone at the club is very proud in what she has achieved.

CAPTAIN’S NOTES

GEORGIA BRIDGES

Here we are back at Hill park!

After a hard defeat against an organised Worthing side the girls pulled their socks up and were ready to go again against Acorns last Sunday.

I was so impressed with the positivity in training and on Sunday after what has been a tough couple of weeks. After a strong first half with plenty of chances created against Acorns, we lost concentration and let a 2 goal lead slip ending in 2-2.

Today is a must win game against a side which we had close competition against last season, in particular the 2-1 game where London City scored in the 94th minute!

Each week this young squad is growing and people are coming out of their shells which is great to see. We’re starting to understand each other as players but also as individuals which gets the

changing room banter flying. No shocker here but it’s normally Molly or Mia who are in the firing line.

You may have seen that our very own Faye Williams became the Deaf European Champions for England yesterday. A massive congratulations to her, what an achievement! We can’t wait to have her back with us to celebreate this amazing acolade.

Get behind your Tigers today, we will be leaving everything on the pitch to get these 3 points.

GET TO KNOW HANNAH STURDY

Hannah, you have been at the Tigers for a couple of seasons now and you are actually one of our success stories! Last year you were with our Development Squad before making a permanent move up to the firsts, how have you found it?

After having 4 years out of football, joining the DS last year was exactly what I needed! Jake and the team were amazing and it really re-ignited my passion for the game. The younger players taught me loads, including now apparently everyone cuts their socks in half?? Mind blow but now I’m a convert so thanks girls! Stepping up at the end of last season seemed like the right time for me, the first team were super welcoming and I learned loads from some top players!

Even though you are a keen footballer, your job is actually based on a totally different sport! Tell us a bit more about it.

Haha I don’t normally mention it or I’ll get rinsed from the girls, so thanks for outing me Joe! I work for England Netball which is the COMPLETE opposite of football. It was an unexpected turn in my career but has opened up loads of opportunities for me working on International fixtures and the Commonwealth Games this year which was amazing. The end goal is to jump into the FA at some point so watch out!

The league this season is very strong, a number of players are stepping down from tier 3/4 to play. We have started the season quite mixed, how have you found it?

Yeah it really felt like we came out the blocks flying after a solid preseason with loads of new player and Zak coming in! The Millwall game was a highlight for me, I absolutely loved how we fought together as a team for the full 90. Recently we’ve had what’s almost felt like a mental block, because we’ve proven we can compete and get results from the top teams, we’ve just been missing that spark. Last week was a real boost, although we only got the 1 point, we

took loads of positives from the game and it feels like we’re all back on the same page gunning for a win this week!

It was a fantastic summer with the Lionesses winning the Euros! How do you think this is going to help women’s football moving forward?

Ah man what a day that was at Wembley! Seeing the journey the girls went on and the backing they had in every city they played in was really special and I think really carried them through the tournament. I think it’s the first moment women’s football has really felt visible at that level in this country, the buzz and growth in things like WSL season tickets has been huge so I just hope that continues. With the World Cup just around the corner and our win against the USA I’m really excited to see how the girls perform on the world stage! Go fund me page to get over to Australia starts now!

What is your best footballing memory of your career?

Making my Sunderland debut when I was 16 was really special for me. My family and I are huge Sunderland fans so when I first joined the Academy at 14 we were all buzzing, but to get to wear the shirt through the levels and make my senior debut was incredible. Playing and training with Beth Mead for 2 years is pretty crazy considering where she is now! I can never thank my parents enough for the hours they put in getting me to training and games week in week out.

Who is your football icon and why?

Lee Cattermole hands down, proper old-school no-nonsense player. The most passionate footballer I’ve ever seen, he takes blood sweat and tears to the next level. He was the type of player to lift up the whole team when they needed it and got sent off pretty much every derby day which is Iconic. What a guy!

Worst banter in the dressing room?

Mia if I don’t say you, can you cross my fines off the list please hun? Tell you what though Abbie’s playlist is SHOCKING, bring back Mariah Carey I say!
