@SLFS
I mean candy. Local candy specifically, because apparently that’s a good channel for my energy. What are some of your hobbies outside SLFS? I write game reviews for SLUG magazine, hike, ski when the snow’s good...do animals count as a hobby? Because I will literally drop almost anything to go pet a cute dog or try to coax a cat over to me.
ASSISTANT MANAGER
How long have you worked here? I started working at SLFS last Halloween, so almost a year now. What made you want to work for SLFS? I’d been a Chronik member for about a year, and watched movies at Broadway and Tower on and off since my family moved to Salt Lake. Honestly, it seemed like an amazing place to work. Within the last few months you have been promoted to assistant manager, how has that transition been? Does it feel different to you? The transition has been pretty smooth. It’s kind of crazy how much more emotional investment I have in this place now. As a front of house staff member or projectionist, the option was always there to suggest change or push for improvements, but the new position has given me the little boost of confidence to take initiative with those changes; and by changes
Tell us about a memorable experience you had with film. So, one of the only midnight premieres I’ve ever attended was for the first Hobbit movie, back in 2012. Tolkien has been a huge influence on me creatively and philosophically through the years, and the opening for that first movie was absolutely breathtaking. I remember getting chills seeing the opening shots of Erebor . . . then the other two movies happened and kind of dashed any sense of wonder from that evening. But it’s still there, I think. What is your favorite part of your job here? The people, without a doubt. Every single one of my coworkers is a beautifully unique human being, and the shared passion of film goes a long way among all of us. The free movies and popcorn are an okay perk too, but uh, yeah, people are the best part.
great directors, so for one month one screen would be showing exclusively Kubrick or Hitchcock. Also an expanded animation selection at the Tower would always be nice.
What are your hopes for the future of SLFS? Hmm . . . I’d like to see a sort of rotating film set of
