FORETASTE It’s time to uncage yourself. We are the ones set free by redemption, yet often allow the culture to corner us into a fearful bubble, espe cially when it comes to being pure in heart and body. Purity is a worthy pursuit, for not only do we reap the benefits of a long & focused life here on earth – but God also promises to reward us with Himself. It’s simple, if you’re His, He calls you holy – and it’s nothing to be apologetic about. Learning his selfless ways about sex, success, style and spirituality likened to pursuing life itself. Like a lion, He calls us to not eat the dead things of society, but to set our eyes on worthy prey – living things. Of course it’s easier to eat from the dead carcass society serves up at every turn – but you were saved you for a greater challenge – to run after meaty challenges with fresh taste. The world will continue returning to their vomit of broken hearts, short-lived romances, and empty sex hookups – make sad songs about it – then look at you crazy when you choose to skip their menu. But as Paul reminds us, enough time has been spent being passionate after wickedness. This issue is dedicated to celebrating the godly ones in the land ☺ If God called you out, be glad and get zealous for faith with good works. The righteous are bold as a lion, let’s roar. (Proverbs 28:1)

SEXUAL ADDICTIONS Words Robyn-Ann Lawson
Our sensual culture is no respecter of persons. Both male and female, innocent and guilty, old and young (and unborn) have been victims of its endless sex worship and sacrifice to the lust dragon. Human trafficking, rape, pornography, and abortions continue to rise and affect even younger age groups. As a result, many in the church still find themselves haunted with sexual experiences, or return to their old lifestyles in frustration. But thankfully, there is a God – and it’s not sex.

After battling a porn addiction in my teenage years, I’ve come to learn that for every temptation the world has, the Lord has a greater pleasure. I still have to battle the daily flood of lustful stimuli, but these are some tools I’ve gathered over the years to maximize my freedom in Christ: 1. Don’t focus on what not to do. Your mind will only become a target for guilt and defeat. Plus, inclinations such as masturbation or promiscuity will keep coming back if the root is not dealt with. Sexual arousal or stimulation is a gift with a God-wrapped purpose and timing, so it may not always disappear just because you ask. Switch to the offensive instead and seek out the Lord’s satisfaction and pleasures daily (Psalm 145:16). Without vision it becomes hard to develop self-control (Proverbs 29:18), so prioritize your passions and plan effective ways to sharpen your gifts for Kingdom use. 2. Reject prideful isolation (Proverbs 18:1) and pursue community and transparency. The enemy’s false authority only appears real in darkness, so fight to live in the light and boast in your weaknesses. Strongholds lose their grip when accountability and godly friendships have permission to till the soil of your heart. 3. Feed your spirit man and take weak days as only that – weak. If experiencing increased temptation or withered strength to resist, take stock to see when you last feasted on the Word of God. Jesus was not being sarcastic when He declared, “man cannot live by bread alone” (Matthew 4:4). Your spirit man needs to eat too! 4. Starve the flesh. We have to live in the real world with its seductive sway, but if there is any flesh-stimulating media that you can avoid, cut it out! (Psalm 119:37) Everything is permissible but let us heed Paul’s caution to not be mastered by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12). Missing out on the world is not the issue here, rather, society is missing out on the real you …the freed you. Know what you were saved for, or your will only return to what you were saved from. Be encouraged!
“It is for freedom Christ has set us free, stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (Galations 5:1).

So what’s the spill? Tell us a bit of the story on how the Lord got your attention and brought you to Him. I grew up as a church kid. I went to a Filipino Baptist church up until going to college. I was always present on Sunday mornings, served in countless church plays, and was very involved with the youth group. I went through all the motions of what I thought it meant to be a “good Christian.” I saw the things I did in my life compared to the lifestyles of the other people in middle school and high school. Since I didn’t smoke weed, have sex, and party like everyone else, I thought I was good. Heaven was for sure. It wasn’t until I went to a conference in ATL called Passion my senior year of HS that the Lord rocked me. I had a radical love encounter with Jesus where He spoke to my heart and I learned that this Christian walk is so much deeper than what I made it out to be. It was there that I first understood grace and the gravity of the cross. I fell in love with Jesus forreal. I really wanted to live for Him. Are there any habits or desires that you’ve clearly noticed a change in, or didn’t expect Christ to help with already? All throughout my childhood I struggled with selfidentity. I hated to be picked on and had issues with jealousy amongst other people I met in school. Popularity had become my idol. I found my selfworth in the approval of my peers. I placed so much value in the clothes I wore and listening to the right music. This drew attention from females and lit a fire to my struggles with lust. I was addicted to pornography and masturbation along with being a slave to popularity. My view of beauty was distorted by my hidden life behind a computer screen. When
23
I encountered Jesus, He slowly began refining me into the man I’m called to be. My gaze at women slowly began to shift to true love found at the cross. I began to see women not as sexual objects, but as daughters of the Most High God. Girls He deeply loves and longs to be close to. When I gave my heart to Jesus, I learned that my identity was found in anyone else’s definition except for God’s. I became His child. I became His beloved. What is a current struggle you’re wrestling through, and some of the grace or lessons God has been showing you? This past Fall semester has been the most busiest of all my years here at UF. I’m a senior now, graduating next Summer. Within the next 365 days I will hopefully be a commissioned Officer at my first duty station in the United States Air Force. I have entered into a relationship with one of the greatest gifts from the Lord - my amazing girlfriend Danessa. A lot of big events have happened this year and time has a way of flying by when the end of a season is near. In such a crazy semester, there’ve been weeks when it has been tough getting into the secret place with the Lord. I know that all of my life’s joy and peace flows from my alone time with Jesus. Yet the enemy has a way of letting the obligations of school or ROTC become an obstacle in allowing me to seek Him. Even in the midst of the guilt or shame I’ve felt from not giving God all of me, He still allows me to be used for His glory. God has been so faithful in giving me appointments with people in my life that have blessed me or allowed me to bless them. I’ve felt so much grace overflow. Jesus’ love pursues me and doesn’t just leave me where I’m at.
www.saltymagazine.com
What are some of the new passions or ideas He has since awakened in you as a part of his kingdom takeover? Of all the ways God has opened my mind to new things, I’d have to say the most profound is my new
love for Haiti. Last Spring Break I was blessed with the opportunity to go serve at Cap-Haitien with Projects for Haiti Inc. After just six days being a part of what God did in the hearts of Haitians and us missionaries alike, my life was forever changed. I saw so much beauty in the people of Haiti. Even in the midst of poverty and thirdworld conditions, I saw the Lord moving there. Since Spring I’ve attained this undeniable love for Haitian culture, dance, language, and cuisine [manje ;]. I left a big chunk of my heart in Haiti. I don’t know what the Lord has specifically in store for my life with Haiti, but I know my heart has been awakened to the beauty that is the Pearl of the Carribean – and I can’t wait to go back this Spring.

War On Terror:
lust Words Robyn-Ann Lawson
“ Now these are the nations that the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan. It was only in order that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, to teach war to those who had not known it before ” Judges 3:1 - 2
26
Lust is a charming dictator, which eventually takes hostage any generation that invites it in. Most young adults only plan to dabble in its pleasures for a season, until they find a soul mate they can settle down with. But after practicing years of instant gratification at the expense of another person, even the marriages they dreamed of end up ruined – because lust gambled off the weapons required to fight for what is worthy of love (discipline, patience, and selfless sacrifice). Negotiating with lust is like negotiation with a terrorist – you come out losing every time because it never intended to honor your terms or values, but destroy them. The truth is, war teaches what nothing else can – kill or be killed. If we really claim to love the salvation Christ purchased for us on the cross, we must learn
www.saltymagazine.com
to war against anything that threatens this freedom. And for the sake of true love – His love that fought for us with His very life – we must learn to expose and counter the perverted bribes of this world’s lusts. Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies. (Psalm 139:21-22) Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle. (Psalm 144:1) But there is even more at stake than your personal fight or freedom. If God called you out, He has a plan to also deliver and influence your friends, family, and culture with your testimony. Like Judges 3 points out, if we are His, God will train us up to war for His commandments and reign on our lives. We are either for righteousness, or against it – there is no middle ground in war. The legacy of your marriage, future kids, and generations will depend on your response to ungodliness today.
“ Then the people of Israel cried out to the LORD, and the LORD raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud… And Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges.” (Judges 3:15-16)
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

The Spark (what inspired your idea or where do you pull your inspirations): I feel as if the hiphop industry needs more diversity. We don’t mean to do it, but a lot of times we automatically create a vision in our minds of how certain people should act or live. It’s time to break them!

So does being a Christian mean we can’t be great in the marketplace/ secular activities? Before making a snap judgment of the meaning of a scripture, first read and examine the pre and the post text. In this instance the post text gives a clear answer. Matthew 16:9 states: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. This is a direct instruction to use your resources to help others. If you continue to read verses 10-12 you will note that being a good manager over worldly activities gives you the experience to be the manager of the true riches in heaven. There are other scriptures that show that Christians can strive to experience secular success: Matthew 5:15 states: In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Ephesians 2: 10 states: For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
“ The key to knowing whether your ambition is godly, is to truthfully examine your motives to your drive.”
Is your motivation to excel to benefit others? Do you want to prosper to bring Glory to God? Are you using your talents to bring people closer to God? If your answer to each of these questions is Yes, then I encourage you to reclaim your ambition!

The Salt (tell us a bit about Kierra, and your vision to impact culture): My name is Kierra and I am a 22 year old student and small business owner. At age 21, I started one of Gainesville’s fastest growing full service party entertainment company, Capes & Tiaras LLC. It’s the only company in Gainesville, FL specializing in princess and superhero impersonators. What started as a one-woman princess show and a simple act of community outreach encouraging young girls to follow their dreams, has quickly evolved into a company offering more than 20 characters for hire, and a staff of almost 40 student actors.
The Spill (what projects are you planning to serve up this season): Inspired by my actors and young customers, I founded two community programs on the idea of giving back and reaching out to the community: Superheroes in Action and Project Princess Gainesville. Through both programs, I offer my services free of charge

to any non-profit organization with a charitable cause that relates to improving children’s health, academics, and well-being. This month, Project Princess will be taking our first mission trip to the Island of Turks and Caicos, to serve children who are living in poverty and lacking education and medical resources.
The Spark (what inspired your idea or where do you pull your influences): The idea of Capes & Tiaras was birthed after a crazy karaoke night when a woman complimented me on my performance and suggested I audition to become a Disney princess. I took her suggestion and made a gallon of lemonade out of it I guess, ha! But the thought of being a professional princess sounded ridiculous, so I did not even take her seriously initially. It wasn’t until I watched “The Princess and the Frog” that something clicked, and I remember thinking to myself (in tears), that everything Princess Tiana represents is me! We have so many similarities in dreaming bag, losing our fathers and
www.saltymagazine.com
being hard underpaid workers – but Tiana’s undisputed strength, humility, and courage kept her pushing until her pressure on success finally cracked. So whenever I put on my Princess Tiana costume, it’s symbolic and represents my dreams and the journey I’m taking to get there!
The Substance (what have been some of the challenges & peaks of the journey so far): Challenges: I think once I got over the initial fear of actually starting the business, God’s grace and blessings have been following me. But there were times when I questioned whether I was actually capable of running a business effectively and lacked the support of my family who could not understand my vision. Plus, getting over the milestones of what I truly thought about myself and what others told me to think about myself was a challenge, and caused me to put my ideas on pause for months. Peaks: But starting my business has been the highest point of the journey so far! We live in a society that’s so safe and tells you to graduate and find that 9-5 job with benefits and security, but there is so much more to life outside of that box. So I’m blessed that the box no longer exists. I also enjoy the event appearances and seeing the priceless reactions of the kids. This year I made my first appearance as the Princess Entrepreneur and spoke to a group of high-schoolers about the importance of identifying their purpose, coming up with a plan, and executing that plan through the business of self. Talk about the high of your life - it was humbling to identify my purpose and passion! 35
www.saltymagazine.com
The Savor (how do you aim
to remain SALTY in your daily commission as salt of the earth): Holy Spirit once told me, “Never get behind or ahead of yourself.” I remain salty by being the best possible person I can be TODAY. What can I do today that would give God gratification and be pleasing to Him? Being a business owner and a motivational speaker doesn’t mean I know everything there is to know about life and business – it simply means I have some knowledge, tools, and insight that could help change a life and I’m willing to share!

Your sex drive doesn’t need a
test drive Words Robyn-Ann Lawson
Unless competing for best sex in the city, constantly putting your private parts up for audition will not get you a role in the movie of Love. Our culture would have us believe that the best relationships are built on instantly amazing sex – but if you listen closely, those same sex-obsessed songs and movies eventually spill over with the tears of living on such a cracked foundation. Sex is awkward, and painful, and complicated … and then amazing, because it was meant to be perfected between two committed individuals in marriage. Not because it needs to be practiced on a random individuals and then showcased on your wedding day. God gave you a powerful sex drive – so He is not threatened by it. Instead of thinking He does not understand, submit your desires to Him and allow the manufacturer of pleasure to train you up in the discipline and patience that is required for true love and intimacy to last. Focusing on great sex carries a deadly “satisfy my needs” mentality, which will eventually smother any lover’s flame. But selfless passion is the guaranteed diesel fuel that will kick your romance into high gear for decades to come, until death do you part.

MONEY Words Robert Williams
38
www.saltymagazine.com
Debt is a chain that will hold you in bondage. As it says in Proverbs 22:7, “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” This issue really hit home with me when I made the decision to attend graduate school. I would ask the Lord, “Why would you give me this calling where I would need debt financing?” Thinking about the seemingly impending doom that comes from paying off student loans, I contemplated the Lord’s heart behind his warnings and instructions on money. Ironically, I received my answer by reading Robert Kiyosaki’s book entitled Rich Dad, Poor Dad. The content opened my eyes to the power that money has. In a consumer driven society, no matter where you sit in the financial totem pole, you will be encouraged to spend, spend, and spend. You eventually spend so much money on consumer goods and expenses that you find yourself in an endless cycle of money-in, money out. Suddenly everything the bible said about the evils of loving money made sense. Money is not inherently evil and having wealth is not a capital offense. However, it can become the ultimate master of modern men if we give it that power. A master that gives reason to wake up in the morning, consumes your time and mental capacity, and becomes your sole comfort in times of trouble. For me, the solution to the problem was this: learn financial literacy,
39
become master of my money, and stop living in fear of it. Financial literacy is the understanding of how money is used to create debt or to create wealth. Every time I make a purchase now, I consider whether or not this purchase will generate income (asset) or pull away from my income (liability). For instance, buying a new video game system could become an asset if invested into a business that runs video game tournaments, or it could become a liability if I leave it in my living room and pay monthly fees for online usage. To become master of my money, I began practicing the mindset of paying myself first. This means before I pay any expenses, I set aside money for acquiring assets. This ensures that I am always generating more income; and I am incentivized to work harder to pay my bills. Shedding my fear of money comes with submitting everything to God in prayer and in practice. That means tithing even when in seems crazy to do so. And through daily prayer, the Lord teaches me that my fears have no merit because he would never let me be consumed or destroyed by money. In a consumer driven society, money will always be a major issue. Financial literacy is key to becoming free of money’s control. As believers in Jesus Christ we must get to a place where we become the master of our funds; giving glory to God with our wealth and never fearing the prospect of becoming wealthy.

I find myself usually inspired by artists who have had their own unique thumb print in the culture. Its hard to narrow down those who’ve been the most influential but as far as hiphop is concerned, artists like Kanye, Lecrae, Andre 3000, Mali Music, Childish Gambino, Pharrell, Kid Cudi, K-oS, I’ve appreciated on one level or another.
I think the best way to remain “salty” and effective in our commission is to spend time discovering the heart and character of God, having and confidence and understanding of who you are and who you’re not, and being sensitive and in proximity of the needs of people. I find myself on a constant mission to genuinely show love amidst my many flaws. This is a task I have found that I have to continually depend on God to show me how to do.

Hey ladies! As I chewed on our theme verse Proverbs 28:1, the following phrase definitely stood out to me: “the righteous are as bold as a lion.” So I thought and prayed, “How can I bring fashion and this verse together?” And I decided that sometimes the color in our wardrobe can get a little bit boring after a while. I’ve seen myself, my peers, and people on the street doused in black, 49
www.saltymagazine.com
grey, and other similar earth tones. But let’s be bold and not afraid to stand out! Of course, a few questions may come to mind: “How bold is too bold?” “Bold fashion; what does that even mean?!”, “What do you match something bold with?”. Well, friends, after doing some research, I have some suggestions that may help you begin your year with more boldness to match that fiery spirit inside you! I have two examples for the bold beginners, and the braver bold!
The first example is for the bold beginners, aka those of you who may need some time to ease into a colorful wardrobe. If your closet is 75% earth tones, this is for you! During winter time especially, we all get a little tired of trying to match our ensembles and just decide to go with the default color, black! Don’t get me wrong. I love black, but it’s time to put some color with it and stand out! First, we have a classic black and white combination, with an accent color of cobalt blue! The part I love most about this outfit is the skirt and tights put together. Tights are thermal so they keep you warm, and the skirt keeps you covered up and modest! Its chic, accessible, comfortable, and very easy to put together and to switch up with different colors or styles! The second ensemble is great for those who are ready to find new ways of being bold in the winter! Colorful coats in the winter are not very easy to find. However, if you search around this time of year, a lot of them are on sale because stores are getting rid of their winter/fall stock to replace it with their spring stock. If there’s a time to go shopping for a great quality winter coat, it is now! If you are ever confused or stuck trying to figure out what to match with your coat, remember that your coat can be the accent piece of your outfit, meaning it’s the main part of your ensemble and it’s supposed to stand out more than the rest, helping you stand out as well. One thing I love about coats is they are long and help you stay warm and covered up. Always keep it modest and classy! We also applied examples of make-up trends that are natural with bold accents. For the first look, I gave her a natural look, with a slight hint of blue in her eye shadow to make her eyes stand out. The Spark: The vision to create The Styling Firm was inspired by my mother, Marie McGill. She introduced me to the world of Fashion. My mother was known for her impeccable sense of style and knowledge of trends and sales. People would pay her to shop for them. It was her passion and I chose to capitalize on what I was indirectly taught; making it a career. Style is in my DNA. I come from a long list of Fashion Lovers and Trend Setters.

Garrett Underwood
The Salt (tell us a bit about Garrett Underwood, and your vision to impact culture): By the grace of God, I’m 25 with a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Northridge, and currently run the most popular Christian Clothing line in the state of California [Malachi Clothing]. As founder and CEO of the company, I wear the roles of sales representative management, manufacturing, researching trends, and overseeing the entire company. Before filling my executive seat at Malachi Clothing, I worked at various clothing companies, such as DROBE Custom Clothing and Humanity Apparel, to heighten my knowledge of the fashion industry.
The Spill (what projects are you planning to serve up this season ): This season we plan to go on a school tour under the Malachi Clothing brand. Traveling to different school and speaking about the importance of appearance and the power of giving! I’m also focusing on creating a lot more partnerships with organizations and other brands, and staying current with sponsorships with new upcoming artist. Branching out to other areas in the U.S and making our presence know everywhere.
The Spark (what inspired your idea or where do you pull your influences): One day as I was walking out of a store, a very anxious looking man standing outside asked me what type of drugs I had on me and how much it would cost him. I asked him why he had approached me with that question, and he answered in a very nonchalant manner, “You look like you would sell them.” At the time, I was wearing baggy jeans and 56

a black shirt with several skulls printed on it. I was dressed in what I thought was the current trend and completely oblivious to the message I was sending out. After that incident, I became more mindful of the image I was projecting through the clothes I was wearing. I began the process by simply printing

positive messages on shirts for myself. Through the overwhelming responses I received from Christians and non-Christians, I realized that this would be more than a hobby, this was God’s will. My goal was to create clothing that was stylish, but that would also portray a positive message.
The Substance
(what have been some of the challenges & high points of the journey so far): One of our high points is the strive to create apparel that will inspire people to live with purpose and give back. With every purchase made it provides a care package to someone in need. Since our launch in the summer of 2008, we have made our footprint in Los Angeles and its surrounding cities; by supporting Christian musicians and speaking at churches, as well as schools. We formed many partnerships with organizations and churches creating outreach opportunities with the communities. One of our biggest challenges is infiltrating our brand into mainstream retail stores. Because we are a Christian brand it is very hard to get in secular stores. But as we push forward we plan to break that wall by making a stamp with the people first then with companies.
The Savor (how do you aim
to remain SALTY in your daily commission as salt of the earth): We plan to stay salty by continuing with bold statements on our apparel, along with keeping our focus on giving! For every purchase made we provide a care package to someone in need. In return we send our consumers a bracelet with the name of the person that received your donation.

Light by Nature Must Shine
Just as you trust in the physical properties of light, trust in the spiritual properties of your faith. By nature, faith is not cowardly. It is bold. If your eyes are trained on the Lord and you are walking in the light, the Spirit is free to work in and through you. Un-cage the Spirit within you. Uncover your lamp. Let the same truth that irrevocably changed you wreak havoc on the enemy’s work and carry out the Father’s will so that it is on earth as it is in heaven.

Whatever hinders the Spirit’s work in you is rooted in the flesh: pride, fear, ignorance. Don’t bring your flesh into a spiritual battle, for it is not against flesh and blood that you fight. The flesh has no power over evil, nor can it boldly proclaim God’s truth in the face of evil. It cowers before the enemy’s work. The flesh should never dictate what you can and cannot do. Instead, rebuke fleshly cowardice and uncover your light!

Fong The Salt (tell us a bit about Natalie and your vision to impact culture): My name is Natalie Fong and I am a freshman photography major at New York University. Photography became a creative outlet for me when I was starting middle school and it was something that I enjoyed doing for fun. I never imagined that it could turn into a passion or a job. Though I haven’t decided what field of photography I will go into, I know that I want my work to push your imagination, bring joy to people, and reveal the beauty in God’s creation.
The Spill (what projects are you planning to serve up this season): Recently, I have been working on a lot of conceptual images because of my 365 project (creating a new image daily) that I am about 1/5 of the way through. I will be continuing to develop more ideas for this project, and hopefully improve as a conceptual photographer. Aside from that, I’m hoping to get more plugged into the fashion industry; model test shoots, shooting for clothing/merchandise companies, New York Fashion Week, etc. And if time allows, I’d like to get back to shooting weddings during the summer!
The Spark (what inspired your idea or where do you pull your inspirations): I’m inspired by a lot of things. Sometimes, certain objects, locations,or events can trigger my imagination and bring a concept to mind. Other 64

times, I will hear song lyrics or read bible verses that are particularly applicable to me that I want to turn into a photograph. I also look up to a lot of artists and photographers, and I will look through their work from time to time to get my creative process going.
The Substance
(what have been some of the challenges & high points of the journey): My current project [the 365] has brought a lot of stress on me because of its demanding level of commitment. It’s difficult to strive for creativity and originality everyday, shooting and editing for hours on end, and sometimes, not liking the end product. But the purpose of a 365 is to challenge yourself, try new things, and hopefully become a better photographer and artist. It is a process and I have come to accept that.

The majority of my following on social media platforms are not Christians, so I hope that through posting and sharing my work, I can capture the beauty of this world and these people that God has created, and reveal it to the lost. I definitely would have to say life experiences brought me to this point. The good, the bad and the ugly, ya know? I love seeing people’s heart warm up towards Christ and I love it when people see a different perspective on who Christ is; a more honest and genuine perspective rather than what they’ve been taught. I think that inspires me to write music that is relevant to them. Music helps people feel things and it can make people more passionate and I love to encourage people to be more passionate about things that are relevant and relatable.

The biggest challenge in this journey would be my experience with some of the political side to it. As much as we don’t want to believe politics are involved, they are. Anytime you want to promote a message in a big way there will be times when people want to see how it can best benefit them rather than the masses. It’s kind of disheartening when people throw in too many superficial motives and it can take away some of the fun of the process. But hey, I love the challenge of forcing things to be fun! Haha! My highest moments are engaging with people when I perform any music composition. It is really a spiritual experience. I feel just as tuned in as they do and I am right there with them.
Definitely through meditation in the Holy scriptures and prayer and by prayer I mean real Father to son conversation; nothing over-the-top or ritualistic. Just heartfelt dialogue. I would also continued accountability. There is nothing like having that person you can trust and respect to lovingly keep it 100 with you about how you are “doing life”, if you will.

So tell us some of the story on how the lord got your attention and brought you to him. I was pretty much born in the church. Both of my parents are evangelist and pastor a ministry in south fl, but my story of getting to know god for myself mirrors that of a prodigal daughter...Lol! God began drawing me in from young because he truly had a plan for me so great, that it took him showing himself early to me, so i would never forget his power, love, forgiveness, and concern for me. I knew from a young age that i loved music and would be a missionary, but i never could have imagined that god would allow me to be an ambassador for him through music. My eyes and heart were set on being a secular artist, but god had another plan for me and the gifts and talents he placed within me. He merely waited for me to accept the call and ultimately his will. He welcomed me, reminded me of my heritage and identity in him and never stopped looking for me when i was lost. For that, i vowed to never go back... I dont regret any of my journey because it has made his efforts of proving how much he loves me that much more intense...My story is a story of redemption through christ and the gratitude i have because of his relentless love for me. I guess you can say it was his loving kindness that drew me. Have you noticed a change in any habits or desires, especially ones that caught you off guard? Since deciding to walk upright before god, there was a
www.saltymagazine.com
lot of change. Some that i conscientiously changed and others i simply noticed much later that i either stopped or just didnt desire any longer. I think what caught me off gaurd were the things that changed about me that family members noticed. I use to be very hostile and quite haughty growing up...Over time, as god had begun working in me, anger and negative speech ceased. I wasnt easily aggravated or attitudious. I wasnt argumentative...I was calm and displayed a peace during some pretty tough times. God began working on my character and even changed how others thought and responded to me. I looked in the mirror one day and sobbed in gratitude. It was an amazing feeling to love and see myself the way god had...Grateful for the changes i started to see. What are one or two struggles you’re currently wrestling through, and some of the grace and lessons god is showing you in the midst. God is so merciful, and im so grateful to him because he loves us too much to allow us to stay the same. It took some time but god revealed to me that i was still struggling with insecurity, abandonment, truth and change. Now over time god has delivered me greatly, however there are still times where those thoughts and anxieties arise. When they do, i stand on the word of god and his promises to me. I had gone to a different school almost every year of my life, but i have never had an issue with adapting and surviving. Surface change was no big deal for me... It was exciting because it was a chance to be whoever i wanted to be for a short period of time and create another world to live in at the next stop. However going back to the mirror and allowing and accepting true change...It was very tough to do. It was very hard to first admit that i needed to change, to live in truth...That escaping wasnt coping. I had traveled the world and never had a problem relocating globally, but i struggled with truth and change. Which ultimately revealed that i was also struggling with insecurity, and the fear of being alone... My mentor has always said...” God reveals, what he wants to heal...” Im just so grateful that he knew change was necessary for me to be in a place where i could actually receive his love for me. He continues to walk with me proving i am never alone, and shows me how to live in truth and give genuine love to others. 85
Are there any new passions or ideas now awakened in you to influence your generation or shape the culture? Yes!!! I am still working musically, and plan to release a new album this year...However, ministry is service, and im ready to do exactly that... Serve! There are sooooo many young women like myself. Who struggle with similar issues and need encouragement and true testimonies of a loving god whose strength is made perfect when we are weak! Outside of my organic lip gloss line (#soglossy ltd. Www.Soglossy.Net), god recently gave me a mandate to start a foundation that empowers godly change through redemption and the loving adoration that the father has for us. Helping young women to rebuild the spirit-man as nehemiah helped to rebuild jerusalem. (Based off the scripture isaiah 54:11-12 nkjv) showing how much the father adores us, that he aims to rebuild our foundation by laying it with gems and precious stones...Turning our past rubble of hurt and pain into a rebuilt city fortified with beautiful gems and precious stones for all to marvel at his handy work. (The gems foundation www. Facebook.Com/foundationofgems) Im so excited to see how this unfolds and where god is leading me!! 2014 Will be a year of great horizons and where history will be recorded for the kingdom of god! In light of jesus telling his disciples not to lose their flavor as “the salt of the earth”, what do you think it means to remain salty? Salt preserves and as believers, i believe we preserve the earth. We also do so with flavor proving that life is better as a believer!! Lol! Salt is also a healing agent, and as believers, its our duty to aide others and share the secret to living life fulfilled...Living with hope, unspeakable joy, peace that passes understanding, and forgiveness, grace and mercy! Winner of both the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award, the documentary is about the unmistakable power of love, as celebrated in the story of one man’s decision to move to India and restart his life among the children living at an HIV orphanage. Unlike others who simply passed through their lives, Rocky stayed, dedicating himself to their health and well-being. Director Steve Hoover ventured to India to chronicle Rocky’s newfound life in this beautifully crafted person film. As Christ followers, we’ve been called to live out the greatest commandment on the earth – love God and love people (Mark 12:30-31). Unfortunately, the world has instead perverted everything God created as good and of first priority. One of these things is love. So many don’t want to experience or think about love anymore because of what the world has created it to be. Google defines love as “(n) an intense feeling of deep affection”, but this is not love. Focusing on feelings is what often causes our culture to confuse love with plain lust or infatuation. It’s hard to understand love when our world rejects the very creator of it – God. Thankfully, the Bible gives a pretty good definition of the verb love in 1 Corinthians 13. If you read this passage you’ll see a clear picture of what it biblically means to love yourself, classmates, coworkers and the world. What caught my attention while rereading this chapter is verse 5 which states, “…it does not seek its own.” This can be so hard to grasp; something so perfect and genuine does not seek its own way. It’s difficult to not get upset when we don’t get our way, but let’s keep in mind what God says about love in these instances: it does not seek its’ own. Love in the bible is not a noun but a verb! Everywhere love is mentioned in the Word, it is a commandment we ought to live out. God calls us to walk in love, to love our enemies and to love Him above all things. Love is not based on the deepest affection one feels but on how one serves others around them. Uncage yourself and be bold in love, even when the world is turning its back on it – they’ve just been hurt and are searching for its true definition.
