Are you a fan of funny feline The Cat in the Hat? Maybe you love diving into Gangsta Granny or scoffing some chocolate while following the adventures of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Whatever your best-loved book or number-one novel, World Book Day is the day to share your love of reading! World Book Day will take place on 3 March and this year is the 25th World Book Day! It’s a celebration of reading, authors, illustrators and books. Lots of schools like to mark World Book Day – will you be dressing up or telling your friends about your favourite book? You might not think reading is for you, but everyone can be a reader! This year there are even more opportunities to choose a book that tickles your fancy. There are new books made just for World Book Day that you can exchange for a World Book Day token. You can explore lots of different genres of books – from mysterious detective stories and awe-inspiring adventures to learning about historical heroes in brilliant biographies. There is a book out there for everyone – so find a book and get reading!

You can find out more at worldbookday.com

I love books! I love the look of them, I love the feel of them, I love the smell of them and, most of all, I love reading them! I’ve read all sorts of books over the years – comedies, thrillers, romances, fantasies, biographies… but there’s one book that stands out as a really good read. I say one book, but it’s actually lots of books in one – 66 books, in fact. It’s quite a big read, but it can be read in chunks. The book I’m talking about is the Christian’s guidebook for life – the Bible. It’s full of amazing adventures, awesome advice, praise poetry, crazy-sounding names and the greatest story ever told – the story of Jesus. If you read no other book this week, grab a Bible, look for the book of Mark and start reading. It could be the start of an amazing adventure of your own.

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT HOW SPECIAL CHILDREN ARE

You Can Make a Difference! says Ibukun Baku

T

wo of my favourite pages in Kids Alive! are Your Space. Particularly when we receive news about some of the amazing work readers have done to support their communities. We’ve had stories of children taking part in sponsored runs, walks, ‘move-a-thons’ and silences, baking cakes and so much more. They’ve raised money to help support vulnerable families, people who are homeless and bought presents for children at Christmas. Their kind and generous actions show they love Jesus and that they’ve learnt the importance of sharing God’s love with others. That’s why in this week’s Bible story, Jesus makes it very clear that in God’s Kingdom, children are every

bit as special and important as grown-ups. At a time when children were encouraged to stay out of the way, Jesus welcomed them with open arms. Jesus wanted his disciples to understand that only by having a child-like faith would they be able to love Jesus with all their hearts and be ready to learn from him. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been learning about sharing the good news of Jesus and reaching out to people with love and kindness. As a child, Jesus is calling you to do the same too. No matter what your age, you can make a difference! Whether it’s by inviting a friend to Sunday school, being nice to someone who’s left out, raising money to help solve a need in your community – you can show people how much Jesus loves them.

cELEBRATING ST DAVID’S DAY On 1 March, Welsh people will be celebrating St David’s Day. It’s a day to remember the patron saint of Wales. There is a National St David’s Day parade in Cardiff with lots of exciting performances including dragons! Children also take part wearing traditional Welsh clothing and performing traditional dances. Across the country lots of towns and villages host their own parades and concerts. Many Welsh castles and heritage sites will have free entry for St David’s Day so that people can learn more about Wales. On the rest of this page you will find some fantastic facts about wonderful Wales!

Did you know... The Welsh language has some different letters and sounds from English. ‘Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!’ means ‘Happy St David’s Day’ in Welsh. But it’s not pronounced how you might expect – it’s ‘Deethe goil De-wi ha-peece’!

Delightful Daffodil and Lovely Leeks Jigsaw nal Daffodils are the natio flower of Wales and are traditionally worn on St David’s Day. Leeks th are also associated wi e Wales. In th box to the right you will see a jigsaw – you can colour it in, cut it up and put it back together!

The flag of Wales features a red dragon on a green and white background. The red dragon has been linked with Wales for at least a thousand years. It is thought to represent the victory that Welsh people had over those who wanted to invade their land. Can you colour in the flag using the number clues?

Why World Wildlife Day? World Wildlife Day has now become the most significant global annual event dedicated to wildlife. With increasing numbers of endangered and extinct species, it’s important to learn how we can protect them and help conserve the planet.

If we continue to lose species, habitats and ecosystems, it will threaten all life on Earth, including us! We rely on wildlife and nature to meet our needs – from food and medicine, to fuel and clothing. Millions of people around the world also rely on nature as the source of their work and income.
