S
unday 13 November is a very special day. It’s Remembrance Sunday, which is a day to remember everyone who has died as a result of war or conflicts around the world. It’s also important to remember people who have been injured or experienced mental or emotional trauma because of war, as well as those who are living through war today. While remembering, we also hope for a more peaceful world in the future. People choose to remember those who have been affected by war in different ways. Many people will wear a poppy. The poppy is a symbol of remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. Buying a poppy also helps charities that support armed forces personnel and their families. Many other people will attend Remembrance services or watch them on TV. On Saturday 12 November there’s the Festival of Remembrance and on Sunday morning there’s a service from Whitehall, London. You can watch both on BBC One or iPlayer. Services will also take place at cenotaphs all over the United Kingdom and will include a two-minute silence at 11am. This year, the Royal British Legion is asking people to think especially of people who have served as a civilian volunteer and emergency services to keep us safe. We should also remember the many people from Commonwealth countries, such as Jamaica and India, who have fought alongside British troops since the First World War. Wherever you are on Sunday at 11am, take a moment to think about everyone who has been affected by war.
We will remember them On Remembrance Sunday we usually think of people in the military. However, we sometimes forget about non-military people in the military) and members of the emergency services too. my grandad helped repair Royal Navy ships and my grandma made

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT HOW GOD HELPS US TO BE BRAVE EVEN AFRAID
Be Brave No Matter How You Feel!
H
ave you read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? The story is about four children who join Aslan the lion to protect the magical world of Narnia from evil. In the story, Peter, the oldest, must fight a dangerous wolf to save his sisters. The author, CS Lewis, writes: ‘Peter did not feel very brave; indeed, he felt he was going to be sick. But that made no difference to what he had to do.’ Peter felt afraid, but he did what he needed to do anyway. We sometimes think courage means being brave without feeling afraid. It doesn’t – being brave means taking a risk to help others, even when we feel afraid! And that’s what Queen Esther does in the
says Melita Day-Lewis
Bible cartoon. She knows it’s dangerous to visit the king without his invitation. However, she wants to save the Israelites from being killed. So, Esther asks God for help. Then, despite the danger, she bravely speaks to the king. I imagine she also felt a bit sick before taking that step. God answers Esther’s prayer and the Israelites are saved! There might be times when you’ll need to be brave to help someone. When someone is bullied, will you stand up for them? If you’re asked to do something you know is wrong, will you say no even if it upsets someone? Even when we’re afraid, God wants us to stand against the bad things we see in the world. He will always be there to help us!
Check out the first three chapters of the book of Esther in the Bible. Then unscramble the anagrams below to discover the names of people in the story. We’ve given you the chapters and some letters to help you find them.

As soon as we become friends with Jesus, God’s Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts. Each day, he helps us to become more like Jesus. As the Holy Spirit changes us, we produce good fruits so we can share the love of God with others.
Gentleness Jesus invites everybody to come to him so he can listen to, protect and keep them safe. In the Bible, there are many occasions where his disciples and the religious leaders judged people. But Jesus didn’t. He spoke to everyone calmly, gently and Dear Jes with respect. As the Thank you fous, Holy Spirit lives in my gentle frie r being us, he’ll help us to to speak to o nd. Odd Socks Day There will be plenty of ways to get involved in Anti-Bullying Week and the first way is by taking part in Odd Socks Day. This is happening on the first day of Anti-Bullying Week – Monday 14 November. It’s a great way to spread kindness and celebrate what makes us all unique. All you have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school on that day. Simple! CBBC star Andy Day and his band The Odd Socks are leading celebrity support for the Odd Socks campaign, so keep an eye out for his band’s new toe-tapping song. It’s going to be released as part of Anti-Bullying Week.
What is Bullying? Bullying is the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or a group of people by another person or group. This can include physical harm, such as hitting or pushing, but it also includes name-calling or leaving people out. It can be something that occurs in person, but it also happens online. All types of bullying are horrible and should never happen.
12 KA - p12-13 - 212 November.indd 1
04/11/2022 10:53
Ways to Reach Out It would be great if we lived in a world where bullying didn’t happen – unfortunately it does. That’s why it’s so important that everyone reaches out to try to stop as much bullying as possible. Here are some ways you can reach out.
If you’re being bullied, talk to your parents, carers or teachers. Grown-ups can’t help if they don’t know what’s going on. Talking about bullying is the first step to hopefully making it stop. If you see someone being bullied, report it to a member of staff at school. The person being bullied might be too scared to talk to someone, so you can help them. Make sure you check that the person being bullied is OK. Share a smile with them, ask them if they’re OK or invite them to join you at break time or lunch time so they’re not alone. If you’re bullied online or you see it happening to someone else, tell your parents, carers or teachers. Even if it’s not happening in person you can still reach out for help. Think about your own behaviour. Have you treated anyone unfairly? Have you shared rumours about other people? Have you excluded anyone from your group of friends? Or have you called other people names? If you have, then you’ve taken part in bullying behaviour. Make sure it doesn’t happen again!
? ? ?
Kindness Day There’s nothing kinder than trying to help tackle bullying, which is why it’s perfect timing that World Kindness Day also happens this week (13 November). It’s a day to celebrate and spread kindness to as many people as possible. So this week, make sure you’re sharing kindness with everyone you meet at school, at home or in your community.

Awesome Allotment Members of Watford Salvation Army celebrated harvest with a Community Allotment Open Morning. Parents, staff and governors from Cherry Tree School were invited to visit, alongside the 70 year three pupils who look after the site each week between February and October. There was a great atmosphere as visitors and students explored the site, made pinecone art, left ‘thankful leaves’ on a cherry tree and created new paths with reclaimed local woodchips. The highlight was sharing warm soup and apple pies made from produce grown by the children. The allotment helped Watford Salvation Army to achieve bronze eco-church status and they’ve now received the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) Level 3 Garden Award.
