Searcher Clade is happy living a quiet life on his farm with his family. However, one day there’s an unexpected visitor – the president! The Earth is in grave danger and the world needs Searcher’s help. The only problem is, Searcher doesn’t think he’s the person for the job. He’s not his famous explorer dad, who went missing when Searcher was just a kid. Despite his fears, Searcher, his wife Meridian and son Ethan end up travelling into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await … and a little family reunion!

In this strange world, Searcher is reunited with his dad and three generations of Clades must nd their way home and save the world! They’ll face all kinds of dangers in this crazy world, but can the Clade family members put aside their differences to make sure their latest, and by far, most crucial mission is a success?

‘Strange World’ arrives in UK and Ireland cinemas on 23 November. The film is rated PG, which stands for parental guidance. Parents or carers can read more about this rating at bbfc.co.uk before deciding if it’s suitable for their family.

Can Be Wise Too! says Melita Day-Lewis

Ionce saw a tiny bird staring down a cat that was near its nest. It made a huge racket and put itself in danger. Why? To protect her chicks. Mums are like that – nobody should mess with their kids!

Solomon asked God for wisdom because he knew that kings must make tough decisions. He wanted those decisions to be correct and fair. In the Bible cartoon, Solomon makes an awesome decision for two mothers with God’s help. God reminded him that a mum will try to protect her child. When one of the women agreed to cut the baby in half, he knew that she wasn’t the child’s mother. The true mum and baby were reunited!

Wisdom isn’t just for VIPs or older people. Kids

can be wise too. Wisdom is knowing what’s right and doing it. Wisdom helps you to be a good person and honour God. The Bible teaches that wisdom is more important than knowing loads of stuff or being rich. You can have great gear, live in a palace or get top grades and still make unwise decisions.

The best way to become wise is to follow Jesus by reading your Bible, praying and spending time with other Christians. Are you confused about something and don’t know what to do? Why don’t you pray and ask God for wisdom? You can also ask your parents or carers, Sunday school teachers or youth leaders –those who know what the Bible says and have been following Jesus for a while.

As soon as we become friends with Jesus, God’s Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts. Each day, he helps us to become more like Jesus. As the Holy Spirit changes us, we produce good fruits so we can share the love of God with others.

Self-control

Jesus showed us the best example of how to live our lives with self-control. Jesus always chose to follow his Father’s (God) instructions. Whether he was confident and happy or sad and annoyed, he always made the right choice. We won’t be as perfect as Jesus, but the Holy Spirit will help us to make more right

o r l d C h i l d r e n ’ s D a y

Sunday 20 November is World Children’s Day, which is an annual day of action by UNICEF. The theme for this year is sharing a positive message of equality and inclusion for every child.

From climate change, education and mental health to ending racism and discrimination, children and young people are raising their voices on issues that matter to them. They’re also calling on grown-ups to help create a better future.

Kids Take Over

On Sunday keep an eye out for children taking over roles in media, politics, business, sport and entertainment that are normally held by grown-ups. This is so they can shine a light on the issues that matter to them.

Go Blue

Show your support for World Children’s Day by going blue. This could mean wearing something blue for the day or asking your parents or carers to change their pro le pictures online.

Meet Omara

This is Omara Elling-Hwang. She’s a great example of how young people can make a big difference. Omara set up her own non-pro t company (that’s a business that aims to help people rather than make money) at the age of 16. Write Unite started because Omara felt people weren’t taking her ideas seriously because of her age. So she decided it was time to change that. Her aim was to give young people from around the world somewhere they could share their opinions and views.

12

Visions of the Future

Omara has also helped to put together a book called , published earlier this year. Young people between the ages of 3 and 18 were encouraged to share the kind of future they want to live in. This includes how they feel about the world as it is today and how they want it to be in the future.

Now the collection of words and pictures that featured in the book is going from page to pavements, as there’s a global art exhibition happening in November. In 10 cities around the world, children’s work will be shown on street corners, at bus stops and on billboards. The Visions of the Future exhibition will also be available to view online at writeunite.org.

With themes including peace, equality, environment, kindness and education, there are some really powerful and incredible ideas from children just like you!

What Can You Do?

Do you feel inspired by Omara’s story and the incredible work included in the Visions of the Future exhibition? Here are some ways you can start your journey to changing the future!

Think about your vision for the future, and create something just like the children did for the Visions of the Future book and exhibition. It can be stories, opinions or art creations. If you’d like to share your vision with us, you can email it to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk so we can publish it in a future issue.

Think about your school, church or local community. What do you wish could change? Take your ideas to your teachers, church leaders or write to your local MP. Your opinions matter and grown-ups should listen to them.

Do you have a business idea like Omara? Is there some way you think you can make a difference? Don’t be put off by your age, see if you can turn that idea into a reality!

The Visions of the Future exhibition has three UK locations in London until Sunday 20 November. You can see it outside King’s Cross station on Euston Road, outside Leicester Square station on Charing Cross Road and on the Albert Embankment near the International Maritime Organisation. After Sunday the exhibition will still be available to view online.
