I don’t know about you, but when I receive a gift I do my best to look after it – especially if lots of thought and effort have gone into choosing or making it. Sadly, people have taken God’s gift of creation for granted for too long and we haven’t been very good at looking after it. Thankfully, we’re starting to realise the damage we’ve done and we’re beginning to do more to make the world better. As you read this week’s issue, think about the things you can do to look after the world God gave us (pages 12 and 13 should help). If we all do a little bit more to look after our world that would be very good.
This week, my mind keeps on going to the creation story, especially Genesis 1:31 where it says ‘God looked at everything he had made, and it was very good’ (International Children’s Bible).

Some communities will be offering Great Big Green clothes swaps, where you can rummage through pre-loved items to find new treasures. There will be events about plastic pollution, reducing carbon footprints or tackling climate change. You can enjoy yummy food workshops offering local produce – or join litter picks or botany walks.
There’s a huge range of inspiring activities up and down the country. Help make this year’s celebration the greenest and biggest yet by getting involved. You could also set up your own event! Check out KA! World on pages 12 and 13 for more information and some top tips about looking after the world we live in. For more info visit greatbiggreenweek.com/get-involved
The Salvation Army, which publishes is passionate about caring for the planet. We hope you are too. An exciting opportunity to stand up for nature and fight climate change begins today (24 September). It’s The Great Big Green Week! Thousands of people will be joining in activities that help communities enjoy greener and healthier lives. Last year 5,000 events took place! This year there are also loads of fun and interesting activities on offer. You could create a bug house or get involved in a wildlife survey. See if you can find a storytelling event where children’s authors read books about wildlife.

Saul had been making life very difficult for the early Christians. He believed they were a threat to the one true God. Thankfully, Jesus spoke personally to him
ast week at my church’s Bible study, a young person shared how they had prayed, ‘God, let someone ask me about you in a very obvious way.’ Later that day, they received a text message from a school friend asking, ‘How can I get to know God more?’ Through that prayer, God was able to provide an opportunity for that young person to make a difference in their friend’s faith
and from that experience Saul became a believer. Once he was filled with the Holy Spirit, Paul focused all his energy on telling others about Jesus.
We may not see Jesus in a vision like Paul, but we can be just as determined to share the good news of Jesus with others. As we learnt a few weeks ago, we’re not alone. We have God’s Holy Spirit helping and guiding us to the people and places where he wants us to make a difference.
L
You Can Make a Difference
This means we can take a step of faith and be like the young person who prayed that God would show them someone who they could share Jesus with. This week, as you start each day, pray and say, ‘God, please guide me to someone who I can tell about Jesus.’

Thisjourney.week’s Bible cartoon once again shows the power the Holy Spirit has to transform people. Saul the persecutor becomes Paul the ultimate believer.

We’re celebrating The Great Big Green Week (see page 3). So, here’s some info and tips on how to get involved in caring for the planet – not just for one week but for the rest of your lives!
Carbon GoingFootprintGreen!
Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
Turn down the thermostat that controls the heating in your home by one or two degrees. Walk, ride your bike or use public transport when possible.
Take Action!
A carbon footprint measures how much carbon dioxide someone releases when they use energy. The bigger your carbon footprint the greater the impact on the climate.
Greenhouse gases trap heat energy and change the climate. They cause global warming – the rise of the Earth’s surface temperature. This can cause droughts and floods, which destroy crops and homes. Warmer oceans can harm animals and destroy the places where they live.
Buy local produce if possible. Imported goods have a much bigger carbon footprint.
Use energy-saving lightbulbs. Turn off lights, TVs and computers when you’re not using them.

If everyone makes small changes, they can make a big difference together!
Carbon dioxide is a gas released by fossil fuels – such as coal, petroleum, gas and oil. It’s called a greenhouse gas. We use fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation.
God made the Earth and everything in it. He wants us to take good care of it. Nature is also awesome, beautiful and gives us joy and a sense of wonder.
