The Price Difference
We can all do our bit to try to help struggling farmers, such as Emilia. The difference in price for some products is very small. For example, Asda’s Fairtrade bananas are only 6p more expensive than the non-Fairtrade ones. Lidl also sell a Fairtrade Choco Rice cereal that is just £1.05. That’s almost a third of the price of Kellogg’s Coco Pops. So Fairtrade isn’t always more expensive.
Spread the Word
You can also help farmers and workers by spreading the word about Fairtrade products. Tell your friends and family about the issues farmers are facing or make a poster to put up at school or church. You could even send anything you create to us at kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk and we’ll publish it in a future issue. You can also ask your teachers to look into your school receiving some Fairtrade awards. There is more information about that at schools.fairtrade.org.uk
