‘DC League of Super-Pets’ is in UK and Ireland cinemas now

I love a superhero movie! Mind you, I’m more of a Marvel man than a DC dude. My favourite superhero has to be Spider-Man. Sorry, Krypto and Superman, but with his wonderful web-slinging ways and super spider senses, Spidey is the one for me! It would be amazing to have a friendly, neighbourhood Spider-Man, some other superhuman or a super-dog around to help us out when things go wrong. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. A little like Krypto ends up having to do in DC League of Super-Pets, we have to rely on ordinary people for help. Having said that, the Bible is full of stories of ordinary people who did amazing things because they trusted God. And that’s something that still happens today. I’m sure you can think of people who have been inspired by God to do some pretty super stuff. Are you ready to do the same?

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT PRAYING WHEN YOU FEEL HELPLESS

God Changes Things We Can’t!

oes the news make you feel sad? Do you feel overwhelmed by things such as the war in Ukraine or the fires in Europe? I do! I sometimes feel so sad that I don’t want to watch or read any news at all. But that would be pretending everything in the world is all right when it’s not. It’s OK to feel sad about the difficult things some people face. God feels sad about these too! We can feel overwhelmed because we don’t know what to do to change things. But there is something very important we can do – we can pray! In the Bible cartoon we see that Daniel was also sad and worried about what was happening in his world. The Hebrew people weren’t listening to God or

Prayer Space

says Melita Day-Lewis obeying him. Daniel realised they were in all sorts of trouble because they had turned their backs on God. So, he decided to pray. Daniel prayed because he trusted God to hear his prayers and answer them. He worshipped God, said sorry on behalf of the Hebrew people and asked God to change things. Then he thanked God for hearing his prayer. Daniel had to wait a long time before his prayer was answered, but God heard every word he prayed (check out Daniel 10:12). When you feel worried or sad about things happening in the world, speak to God about them. He’s loving, kind and listens to our prayers. He can change things we can’t!

Think of some things in the news that make you sad and write or draw a prayer about them in the space below.

Fun in the Sun

Kids across the United Kingdom are on summer holidays now – wahoo! Thankfully there’s been plenty of lovely sunny weather to enjoy so far and hopefully there will be plenty more to come too! Warm, sunny days are brilliant, but it’s important to remember how to stay safe. Getting sunburnt can be really painful! It also increases someone’s chances of getting skin cancer in the future. Sunburn doesn’t just happen on holiday either, it’s possible to get burnt wherever we are. Even if it’s cloudy. So here are some top tips for a safe summer.

Slip Slip on a top. Cover up with suitable clothing, such as a lightweight, loose T-shirt. This will protect your upper body from sunburn.

Slop Slop on some sunscreen. You should use sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30. Also make sure it has at least 4-star UVA protection. Apply the sunscreen to all exposed skin, including the face, neck and ears.

Use water-resistant sunscreens if you’re having contact with water, but still reapply it after being in the water or towel-drying. It’s also recommended that you reapply it every two hours if you’re out in the sun all day.

Slap Slap on a hat to protect your head. A wide-brimmed one is best as they shade the face, neck and ears.

Slide Slide on some sunglasses. It’s possible to get a painful burn to the surface of the eye from too much sun exposure. Wear sunglasses that have the CE Mark and British Standard Mark 12312-1:2013 E, and always avoid looking directly at the sun.

Slurp 12 KA - p12-13 - 30 July.indd 1

Slurp plenty of water. When it’s hot it’s even more important to stay hydrated. That means drinking lots of water. Drink regularly throughout the day, especially if you’ve been running around playing.

22/07/2022 16:01

How to Deal with Sunburn If you do forget some of our tips and accidentally end up with sunburn, here are some ways to ease the pain.

Chill your skin with a cool shower, bath or damp towel.

Apply a soothing aftersun cream or spray, such as aloe vera.

If you’re really sore, ask your parents or carers about taking suitable paracetamol or ibuprofen painkillers. These can help reduce pain and inflammation.

Avoid going out in the sunshine where possible and cover sunburnt skin with loose clothing until the sunburn has healed.

If you feel unwell or your skin swells badly or blisters, seek medical help from a doctor or call NHS 111.

Keeping Cool With temperatures hitting a record 40°C in the UK in July, it’s even more important to keep cool and follow the sun safety advice on these pages. To cope better in heatwaves there are a few things you can try. Close blinds or curtains, especially in rooms facing the sun. Stay indoors as much as possible. Have a cool bath before bedtime. Use a fan to circulate air. Keep nightwear light and loose. If you need to get out of the house, look for indoor places with air conditioning. Libraries, cafes, swimming pools, cinemas and shopping centres are good options.

Check out next week’s KA! World for more summer safety tips
