ow guys, guess what? A celebrity was here in our city of Jerusalem! W You know who I’m talking about – Jesus, of course. Now, things are always pretty hectic in town in the lead up to Passover, but this Jesus guy
Je ru
caused a commotion like I’ve never seen! I’m glad that I was first on the scene to check out everything that was going on. Everyone was pushing and shoving, trying to get to the front of the crowd to see Jesus. Loads of people grabbed palm leaves and waved them like flags. Some of them even took off their cloaks and laid them on the ground. It was pretty dusty so they made a nice path for Jesus to ride along on his donkey. Yep, you read that right – a donkey! Not a chariot or a big, strong horse, as you’d expect from such an important man. Just a little old donkey from outside of town. Considering he was meant to be a king, he wasn’t wearing a crown or even very nice clothes. It didn’t seem to matter, though – all the people around me were shouting ‘Hosanna!’ and ‘Praise to God!’ I was chatting to someone who said they’d never experienced a day as extraordinary as this! Not everyone was happy, though. There were some religious leaders – the Pharisees – who were muttering rude things about Jesus. I don’t know what their problem was. As far as I could tell, this was the great leader we had been promised who was coming to save us all! Catch me next week to see what else has happened with this new guy in town!
Jerusaelm_Gal_3_16 I love footy and I really love Plymouth Argyle. One of my favourite things is to join the crowd at an Argyle match. When I’m there I really get into it – I shout, I sing, I clap my hands and I wave my scarf. And when they score – which has been quite a lot this season – I go bonkers! Once the excitement of the game has died down, I sometimes feel guilty because I never go that crazy for Jesus. At church I’ll sing and I might clap my hands, and if there’s a good children’s worship song I’ll join in the actions, but I’m not sure anyone would realise I’m bonkers about Jesus. Palm Sunday is a reminder to me to get excited about Jesus and, unlike the Palm Sunday crowd, stay excited. After all, he’s done much more for me than any football team. Jesus saved me!

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT MAKING TIME TO BE SPIRITUALLY FIT
Slow Down and Pray says Justin Reeves
I
f you’re anything like my daughters you’re very active and fit. From the moment they get up in the morning they’re go, go, go! Some days they quite literally run all the way to school and run back home at the end of the day. During any other free time, they’re dancing, skipping, playing energetic games, bouncing on the trampoline. In fact, we usually have a bit of a fight on our hands to stop them from trampolining on our bed and settle them down to say prayers before bedtime. I wonder when you say your prayers. Are you like my family, and your parents or carers encourage to chat with Jesus at bedtime? Maybe you start your day by talking to Jesus. Perhaps you have conversations with Jesus throughout the day. It
might be that praying is something you’ve never really thought about or been encouraged to do. And what about reading your Bible, when do you fit that in? I’m not always very good at remembering to pray and read my Bible. However, I know that when I make time for Jesus, life just seems to be better. My problems and worries don’t just magically disappear, but I do find life much easier to cope with. We’re often encouraged to make sure we eat healthily, do plenty of exercise and look after our mental health. This week, I want to encourage you to improve your spiritual health by making time for Jesus, by praying and reading his word.
Morning, Noon and Night In the prayer wheel on the left, shade the hours of the day when you think you might be able to pray. Then use the space on the right to write or draw things you can talk to Jesus about. m

ould you risk the future to change the past? If you’re interested in a rip-roaring time-travel adventure series, then check out this week’s competition featuring The Butterfly Club: The Ship of Doom. Picture this: Greenwich, London, 15 January 1894. Luna thinks that an afternoon at her aunt’s butterfly club sounds boring, but in fact The Butterfly Club has an unusual secret. Members of The Butterfly Club are time-travelling thieves, stealing artefacts from the future to bring progress forward. But small changes in history can have a big impact and only time will tell the consequences – that’s the butterfly effect. Luna, Konstantin and Aidan travel to 1912 where they find themselves aboard a great ship travelling from Southampton to New York. They meet a man called Guglielmo Marconi and plan to steal his new invention: the wireless radio. But as the ship heads into icy waters, they discover its name: RMS Titanic. Can Luna and the boys save Marconi and his invention from the doomed ship? Can they get the radio back home to the Butterfly Club and how will their actions change the rest of time? For your opportunity to win The Butterfly Club: The Ship of Doom answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk to reach us by Friday 6 May when the winners will be chosen – remember to put ‘The Ship of Doom Competition’ in the subject box. You can also enter by filling in the details on the coupon below and posting it to: The Ship of Doom Competition, Kids Alive! 101 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BN.

HOW TO MAKE PALM PALMS Palm Sunday is the day when Jesus entered Jerusalem and crowds of people showed they loved him! Many people laid down their coats to make a path, waved palm branches, and shouted ‘Hosanna!’ The full story can be found in Matthew 21:1–9. Find out below how you can make a palm branch using your very own palms! Then you can be like the crowds and wave it to praise King Jesus.

STICK!
What to do
1
Draw around your hand on the green paper – do this around eight times. One trick is to fold the paper into our and create four in one go.
2
Ask a grown-up to help you cut along the line to create the palm ‘leaves’.
3
Glue the palm leaves to either side of the lollipop stick. Start about halfway up and work upwards.
4
Add a strip of green paper along the middle of the leaves to hold them together. A grown-up might need to help you cut the strip out from the leftover green paper.
5
Wait for the glue to dry and you have a palm branch you can wave as you shout ‘Hosanna!’

God’s love is awesome! says Melita Day-Lewis
A
t Easter we celebrate that Jesus died and came back to life so that we can be friends with God. But there were some amazing things that happened in between Palm Sunday and Easter that also show us how much God loves us! Jesus went to the Temple in Jerusalem. What he saw really upset him. Moneylenders had turned a place of worship into a shopping mall and were ‘robbing’ people who wanted to get close to God. He chased them out because God didn’t want anything to stop people receiving his forgiveness! He then had a special Passover meal with his friends to remember when God’s people escaped from slavery in Egypt. It also looked ahead to Jesus’ death and resurrection. Jesus was showing them in a symbolic way that he would free them from everything, from slavery, acts of wrongdoing and all kinds of evil. Jesus knew ahead of time that he would die on a cross – a horrible punishment for criminals invented by the Romans – even though he was innocent. He was afraid of the suffering he would go through and prayed for a long time in the Garden of Gethsemane before he was arrested, asking God for courage. He wanted to obey God more than anything! Jesus went through so much to rescue us from sin and evil. What awesome love! Why don’t you spend time in the days leading up to Easter thanking Jesus for all he’s done and pray that people would put their trust in him?
