However, apart from Thelma’s best friend, a donkey called Otis, nobody pays her any attention at all. She’s got big dreams but nobody’s listening!

Then Thelma turns into a unicorn! Well, not a real unicorn, but a pretend unicorn! An accident leaves Thelma absolutely covered in pink paint and glitter, with a carrot stuck to her head that looks like a horn. Thelma looks like the perfect unicorn and everybody believes that she actually is one! Before she knows it, she’s on her way to becoming a pop star. At frst it seems like a dream come true. However, Thelma soon realises that being a super famous unicorn comes at a cost – and that just being herself can be pretty fun too!

You can watch ‘Thelma the Unicorn’ on Netflix from 17 May. For more information about Netflix subscriptions, visit netflix.com

‘Thelma the Unicorn’ is rated PG on Netflix. That means it’s suggested that parents or carers make sure it’s suitable for their children.

I’ve just fnished watching a preview of Thelma the Unicorn. I thought it was fab – there were loads of super songs, cool characters and plenty of sparkle! I did feel sad that Thelma thought being herself wasn’t enough, though. Of course, what Thelma didn’t realise at the time was that her best friend loved her just the way she was.

Have you ever felt like you wished you were someone else? A lot of people feel like that, so you’re not alone if you have. However, did you know that God made you exactly as you’re meant to be?

In the Bible there’s a psalm written by David that says ‘Body and soul, I am wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139:14 The ). Just like David, you are wonderfully made by God – he knows you and he loves you. To God you are perfect just the way you are!

Copying Jesus

Do you know the game where you copy everything someone does? (Do you know the game where you copy everything someone does?) It’s normally quite fun to begin with. (It’s normally quite fun to begin with.) But after a while it gets very annoying. (But after a while it gets very annoying.) Stop that! (Sorry! )

In this week’s Bible cartoon Peter copies everything Jesus does, but he isn’t playing a game. In fact, there’s a lot of scary stuff in this week’s Bible cartoon – wind blowing, waves crashing and maybe even a ghost?! When the disciples saw that it was Jesus and not a ghost, he was doing something really scary too – walking on the water! All the disciples were scared but Peter wanted to copy Jesus. He asked Jesus to invite him to join him and Jesus said yes! So Peter walked on water – and when he started to sink Jesus was there to help.

Read the comment to the right about doing what Jesus does

There can be lots of scary things in our lives –tests, bullies, worries, people getting ill, things we hear on the news. However, in the middle of all that scary stuff, Jesus is doing something. Jesus is helping everyone to know God. Jesus is showing people the right things to do. Jesus is putting good things into our lives. If we look hard, sometimes we can see the good things that Jesus is doing and we can ask him to invite us to join in.

What can you see Jesus doing? What can you join in with?

Bumper Bible Breakdown

Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.

The Israelites Grumble

The Israelites had promised to trust and follow God, but they grumbled and complained again and again. They complained about their food from Heaven, so God gave them quail instead. They complained there wasn’t enough water, so God miraculously provided water from a rock. But no matter how much God did, the people still complained. God would get angry but when Moses prayed and apologised on their behalf, God’s anger would calm down.

On the other hand, God kept his side of the promise to make them into a great nation by giving them victories over the other kingdoms. When the king of Moab tried to get Balaam to place a curse on them, God used a talking donkey to show he was on the Israelites’ side and made sure that all Balaam could do was bless them.

Goals for Good

Kids Alive! team will be tuning in tomorrow (12 May) to watch one of the biggest football games of the year – the Women’s FA Cup Final! In a competition that started with 456 teams, it’s Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur who will be battling it out to take home the trophy.

Last year, 77,390 people turned up to watch Chelsea win the cup at Wembley Stadium! There’ll probably be just as many fans at Wembley tomorrow.

Part of what makes football so great is that it brings together a big group of people who all support a common cause, like wanting to see their team win the Women’s FA Cup!

Helping End Homelessness

Goals for Good is a fundraising campaign organised by The Salvation Army (who publish Kids Alive!). It aims to bring football fans together to support an amazing cause –helping people who are experiencing homelessness!

PLEASE DONATE

After the Women’s FA Cup Final, many people will be getting ready for Euro 2024, another giant football competition. Between 14 June and 14 July, nations from all across Europe will be playing against each other. During this time, Goals for Good will be asking football fans (and others!) to help them raise money for The Salvation Army.

The money that is raised from Goals for Good will go towards helping people who are experiencing homelessness, whether that’s helping someone fnd somewhere to sleep or giving them support with other needs.

12

Where Will You Sleep?

Could you imagine not knowing where you’re going to sleep tonight? Or not knowing whether you’ll have to go to bed without eating dinner? Those are two things that people who are experiencing homelessness might face!

At least 309,000 people are experiencing homelessness in England. That’s four times the number of people who turned up to watch the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley in 2023! Homelessness is a massive problem, but The Salvation Army is working hard to bring it to an end!

What Can You Do?

If as many people as there are going to be at the f support Goals for Good, then lots and lots of money will be raised! So why not get involved yourself?

Organise a Goals for Good watch party! Ask your friends, family or church members to all get together to watch a Euro 2024 match and raise money for Goals for Good! During half time, you can pass around a hat and ask everybody to put some money in it or ask your parents, carers or church leaders to set up a fundraising page online!

Get involved in your own Wear Your Kit to School or Church Day. Ask your teachers or church leaders if your class or church family can wear their favourite football kit, scarf or fancy dress absolutely everywhere for a day! You can also give a donation to Goals for Good and ask others to donate too.

Print out some colouring sheets from the Goals for Good website. You can turn them into posters so that your neighbours can learn about Goals for Good too!

To learn more about Goals for Good, visit salvationarmy.org.uk/goalsforgood Design Your Own Badge!

Rhino had smooth skin but bad manners. Once he stole a cake. The man picked up the crumbs. Rhino took off his skin and dived into the sea. The man flled crumbs into Rhino’s skin. When he put his skin back on, he itched. He rolled, rubbed and lost his buttons and got baggy skin!

Wow! This beautiful Springtime Colouring was sent to us by Constance, age 5. Constance used lots of shiny gem stickers –what a brilliant idea!

But when I asked the dentist if he had any baked beans or perhaps some tuna and mayonnaise, he told me to stop being cheeky.

Because I’m doing jacket potatoes for tea and the only filling I’ve got is cheese!

I told Robbie that I thought I needed a couple of fillings...

...So he sent me to the dentist.

So why did you ask him for those things, Robot?
