Buddy Oliver is 13 years old and he’s a cooking expert. He can make fresh pasta, whip up a batch of perfect pancakes and cook the most delicious fried chicken you can imagine. Taught by his dad, a chef called Jamie Oliver, Buddy is seriously good in the kitchen. Now Buddy’s looking to share his skills and learn how to do other amazing things too!
In each episode of Cooking Buddies, a new series on CBBC, Buddy will meet another child with a terrifc talent. They might be a brilliant basketball player, superb street artist or impressive Irish dancer! Then that kid will get Buddy to have a go at what they’re great at doing, whether that’s ice skating, salsa dancing or boxing. As well as learning lots of new skills, Buddy will also be teaching his guests how to cook something brilliant (and healthy) for their loved ones. He’ll also show them important cooking techniques, such as how to hold a knife properly! By the end of each episode, Buddy and his new friend will have served up a seriously scrumptious plate of food.
The frst three episodes of Cooking Buddies aired on Wednesday 10, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July on CBBC, but don’t worry if you’ve missed them – you can still catch them on BBC iPlayer. Make sure you’ve eaten before you settle down to watch an episode. Otherwise your stomach might be rumbling by the end of it!
Further episodes of ‘Cooking Buddies’ will air on CBBC on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 6pm, with the last episode airing on 26 July. Each episode is also available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
I’ve been watching an episode of Cooking Buddies. I particularly liked the bit where Buddy and karate fan, Isla, made fresh pasta – I’m going to try it at home! I love that Buddy teaches his guests a skill that he has and they share something with him that they’re talented at.
In the Bible Jesus tells a story about talents. You can read it in Matthew 25:14–30 or watch it on Saddleback Kids’ YouTube channel – it’s called The Parable of the Three Servants. This story uses money to explain that we have all been given gifts by God and we should use them wisely. If God gives you a talent, he wants you to use it and not waste it!
What God particularly loves is when we use the talents he’s given us to help people. Can you think of a way that you can use your skills to help others this week?

Read the comment below about how important kids are to God
Kids Are Awesome!
Have you ever been told that you couldn’t do something because you were too young? Or have you felt that a grown-up didn’t listen to you because you’re still a kid? Despite being younger than grown-ups, children can do incredible things.
Kelvin Doe, from Sierra Leone, was 13 years old when he started powering neighbouring houses with batteries he invented using acid, soda and metal! Malala Yousafzai stood up to the Taliban when they wanted to ban girls from going to school. At 17 years old she became the youngest ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize!
Louis Braille was only 15 years old when he fnalised his writing system for people who are blind – Braille is still used around the world today!
It’s clear from that list of incredible kids that age doesn’t have to stop you doing awesome things. It’s also clear from this week’s Bible cartoon that Jesus thinks children are really important. So important that he said grown-ups should behave more like kids if they want to go to Heaven one day!
It’s not just that Jesus thinks kids are important either. Jesus wants us to know that he loves us so much. He loves us as much as the shepherd who lost his sheep and left the others to go and look for it. You are so important to Jesus – he wants you to know that he thinks you’re awesome and he believes that you can do incredible things!

Bumper Bible Breakdown
Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.
David’s Great Mistake
David was on the roof of his palace when he spotted a beautiful lady called Bathsheba. Bathsheba was married to Uriah the Hittite, a soldier in David’s army. But David liked her and wanted a relationship. When Bathsheba became pregnant, David knew he was the father and wanted to cover his tracks. He ordered his commander to put Uriah on the front line, so that he’d be killed in battle. The plan worked and Uriah died.
However, God was not happy with David. David realised he’d messed up and was truly sorry for his actions. God forgave him, but David still had to face the consequences for what he’d done.
The fnal years of David’s rule were flled with more mistakes and heartbreak. But even though David was far from perfect, God still remembered and kept the promise he made – one day, one of David’s descendants would rule over God’s people for ever.

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.
It might look like the right tower in these photos is leaning more, but the two images are exactly the same! Our brains get confused because in real life two towers next to each other would get closer together as you look nearer the top.

Have you heard of a pixel before? A pixel is a little square or rectangle and on its own it doesn’t look like much. However, when lots of pixels are put together they can be used to create stunning pictures! A cat climbing the Eiffel Tower, a robot eating an ice cream, a baby dressed as Batman – your imagination is the limit when you’re creating pixel art! With the Simbrix Maker Studio, you can now make your very own pixel masterpieces. Simbrix are just like pixels and you can connect each brick to create 2D and 3D designs! Each Simbrix Maker Studio comes with 4,000 Simbrix, so you’ll be able to build a tiny picture or an absolutely enormous one! Simbrix are also reusable, so once you’ve fnished with a design you can break it apart and build another one. With the Simbrix Maker Studio the possibilities are endless – so what crazy pixel art will you come up with?

SHARK AWARENESS DAY
SHARK AWARENESS DAY
It’s Shark Awareness Day tomorrow (14 July), so we thought you might like to know some fab facts about a few sharks that swim in the waters surrounding the United Kingdom.
BASKING SHARKS
BASKING SHARKS
As the second largest fsh in the world, basking sharks might look a bit scary. They can grow to be 40 feet long and they have really big mouths! However, basking sharks actually only eat tiny plankton –they’re completely harmless.
BLUE SHARKS
BLUE SHARKS
Blue sharks are named after their dazzling blue backs, which help them to camoufage in the water. Their favourite things to eat are fsh and squid, but a blue shark will also eat any birds that land on the surface of the water!
SHORTFIN
MAKO SHARKS
Mako sharks are like the cheetahs of the oceans because they’re incredibly fast! These large sharks can go as fast as 45 miles per hour, and they can even use their speed to help them to leap out of the water.
THRESHER SHARKS
THRESHER SHARKS
Thresher sharks look like any other ordinary shark, except for their really long tails! A thresher shark’s tail can grow to be as long as the rest of its body. Thresher sharks live in deep water, about 10 miles from land.

How to Be a Good Person!
Check out your Bible –Micah 6:6-8
What makes something good? You’d probably think that someone was a good athlete if they won a gold medal at the Olympics. You might think that a garden looks good if it’s full of beautiful fowers. When you eat a slice of pizza, you might think that it’s really good if it’s covered in pepperoni or ham and pineapple (although some people think that’s bonkers!)
Do what is right to other people!
Have you ever wondered what would make someone a good person? That’s a really tricky question, but the Bible has a brilliant answer. In Micah 6:8, God makes it clear that the way to be a good person is to:
Have you heard about the crab which always puts itself first?
It’s very shell-fish!
2
1 Love being kind to others!
3
Live humbly and trust God!
Do What Is Right
Just like the shell-fsh crab, humans can often be quite selfsh. We can focus on doing what we want to do rather than doing what is right. So what does it look like to do what is right to other people, rather than just what makes us happy?
It looks like…
…treating everyone equally! …telling the truth instead of telling lies!
…not losing your temper with your family and friends!
…listening to and respecting other people’s opinions!
…forgiving people when they make mistakes!
Love Being Kind
Doing what is right to other people also means being kind to them. However, God doesn’t want us to be kind just because we have to be. He wants us to be kind because it’s something that we love doing!
Being kind includes…
…sharing what you have with others!
…noticing when someone is sad and comforting them!
…making sure that nobody is left out! …giving your friends a hand when they need help!
…supporting charities, such as The Salvation Army (who publish Kids Alive!), to help people in need!
Live Humbly, Trusting God
There are lots of ways that you can show kindness to others by supporting The Salvation Army, such as donating old clothes to a local charity shop. To fnd out more about how The Salvation Army looks after local communities, head to salvationarmy.org.uk/our-work
Humble is a bit of an odd word, isn’t it? It means to not be proud or arrogant, and to not be a know-it-all. The Bible tells us that to be a good person we shouldn’t think that we know absolutely everything about absolutely anything! Instead of trusting in ourselves to be able to do everything, we should trust in God.
When you trust in God, you might…
…pray to him when things are going well! …pray to him when things are going badly!
…read your Bible or a Bible story every day! …go to church to learn more about God!
…try to live in a way that makes God happy!
The Best Person
Micah 6:8 wonderfully shows us how we can be good people, and there’s a fantastic example of this in the Bible – Jesus!
Jesus was the best person to ever live. He always did what was right, loved being kind, lived humbly and trusted God. Humans often mess up, but Jesus never did. So look to Jesus to see the best example of how to be a good person!
Do what is right, love being kind, live humbly and trust God!
