he PAW Patrol pups are ready for another big screen adventure and there are some cool new characters ready to shake things up. When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol team superpowers and they become the Mighty Pups! For Skye, a smaller member of the team, the new powers are a dream come true. However, things take a turn for the worse when Mayor Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance. Vance is a meteor-obsessed mad scientist who wants to steal the pups’ superpowers and turn herself and Humdinger into supervillains. The fate of Adventure City is hanging in the balance, so the Mighty Pups must stop Humdinger and Vance before it’s too late. While battling to save the city, Skye also discovers that even the smallest pup can make a big difference.

We love PAW Patrol in our house. We’ve watched all the cartoons (several times!), we’ve seen PAW Patrol: The Movie, and we’re really looking forward to PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie ! If I’m feeling a bit like Mayor Humdinger, I tease my youngest daughter by singing, ‘PAWS Patrol, PAWS Patrol – they’re always in trouble’. She tells me off before singing the theme tune correctly. I like the bit that goes: ‘PAW Patrol, PAW Patrol, whenever you’re in trouble. PAW Patrol, PAW Patrol, we’ll be there on the double. No job’s too big. No pup’s too small. PAW Patrol, we’re on the roll!’ It’s good to know there are people to help you when life gets tricky. And it’s especially good to know that Jesus is with you too. Remember, no problem’s too big and no child is too small. Jesus is always on the roll and ready to help you.

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT HOW JESUS UNDERSTANDS YOUR CONFUSION AND WANTS TO HELP YOU

Let Jesus Clear the Confusion says Justin Reeves

I

wonder if you would say you’re a Christian. If you do, I wonder if you find it easy. Maybe sometimes you find it tricky or confusing. I’ve been a Christian for more than 30 years and I want to be honest with you – I don’t always find it easy and I often find it confusing. For example, I have some friends and family who aren’t Christians. They’re all lovely, kind and caring people, but sometimes they say and do things that I don’t think are right. Other times they might question what I believe and it can feel like they’re trying to persuade me to give up on following Jesus. Then there are times when I look at the way other Christians behave and I think to myself, ‘Oh

dear, I’m not as good a Christian as them!’ Or, if I’m really honest, I sometimes look at other Christians and think, ‘Oh dear, I’m not sure they should behave like that!’ The important thing to remember is there’s only one person you need to worry about – that’s Jesus! And the really cool thing about Jesus is because he lived on Earth, he understands just how you feel. There were times when he found things hard, people doubted him, confused him and were confused by him. So any time you find being a Christian tricky, in any way, speak to Jesus about it. He gets it and he will help.

‘mariner 4’

The cosmos or universe is so enormous and stupendous it’s mind-boggling! Here are some facts about space that are … well, cosmic!

Mission to Mars How cool would it be to be able to take a close-up photograph of a planet? Well, on 15 July 1965, the Mariner 4 spacecraft travelled to Mars and took the first ever photos of the planet from space. The spacecraft was only supposed to be in space for eight months, but it lasted about two-and-half years delivering many more images than expected, until communication with Mariner 4 was lost on 21 December 1967.

Photograph of mars taken by ‘mARINER 4’

Take a look at the image below, which was taken by a special film camera on board Mariner 4. Back in 1965 this photograph was thought to be very detailed and impressive. Since then, technology has developed, and many images of Mars have been taken in colour! In fact, there have now been a number of missions to Mars that have landed on its surface and sent back images that were taken from the planet itself. NASA Images

h t n o M y r o t is H k c la B Black History Month 2023 is highlighting some amazing people who made an impact before the Windrush generation began arriving in Britain in 1948. Here’s some more information about four fantastic people who did incredible things.

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Illustrated by Philippa Martin

Samuel was a black British composer whose father was from Sierra Leone. He began learning the violin when he was five years old and sang in his local church choir in Croydon. His talents were spotted and he received a sponsorship to study at the Royal College of Music.

Samuel is considered a pioneer in classical music and an icon of black British history. He produced famous works including ‘Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast’, ‘The Death of Minnehaha’ and ‘Hiawatha’s Departure’. This trilogy of music was popular with British choirs and orchestras. Samuel was also a professor of composition at the Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and conducted many choral societies and orchestras across Britain.

Princess Tsehai Princess Tsehai was an Ethiopian princess. When Ethiopia was invaded by Italy in 1935, Princess Tsehai and her family moved to England for safety. While in England, Princess Tsehai was an interpreter for her mother and father, became a spokesperson for her country and trained to be a nurse! She asked for no special treatment, living and working alongside other nurses for a salary of £20 a year!

06/10/2023 13:17

Kofoworola Abeni Pratt Kofoworola was an incredible woman. Born in Nigeria, she was inspired to become a nurse following her two-year-old sister tragically dying after catching flu. However, Kofoworola’s dream of being a nurse was halted by her father who thought she shouldn’t do the basic tasks that Nigerian nurses were often told to do. Senior nursing posts were only open to white British women. After marrying a doctor, Kofoworola moved to London and decided to enter the nursing profession even though it was unusual for married middle-class women to work at that time. Despite experiencing racial discrimination, she successfully completed her nursing training and gained more and more qualifications. Today she is recognised as one of the first black women to work in the NHS and she’s an inspiration to black nurses both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Ivor Cummings Ivor was born in West Hartlepool. His mother was a white nurse and his father was a black doctor from Sierra Leone. When Ivor’s father moved back to Sierra Leone, Ivor moved to Surrey with his mum.

While growing up in Surrey, Ivor was often the only black person in his local community. He was badly bullied at school, but things improved when he went to Dulwich College, London. Ivor excelled academically, but his life continued to be difficult because of his race.

However, nothing stopped Ivor! He continued battling his way through life and eventually got a job in the Colonial Office. He became known as someone who fought for the rights of any person of colour, no matter what their situation. Ivor even became the official representative for the hundreds of people who arrived on the Empire Windrush in 1948. He officially greeted them and helped them find housing and jobs, supporting some for many years.

Josiah Gets Hired! Hey, readers! My name is Josiah-Daniel (J-D) and I’m 14 years old. I’m currently doing work experience at Kids Alive! I’m home educated, but if I was in school I’d be in year 10. One activity I really enjoy is indoor rock climbing. It can be scary when I climb right to the top, but I have to trust the rope that holds me secure. In the same way, we must trust Jesus, because he will protect us even when we’re frightened. What are you good at? Maybe you sing or play guitar, or perhaps you’re a pro bottle flipper! Whatever you’re good at, it’s important to remember that it’s God who gives you those talents. I play the piano and I have been playing for 10 years. So, just to check that you’re paying attention — how old was I when I started playing piano? (There’s a clue in the second sentence of the first paragraph.)

It looks like your garden fence could do with repairing, Percy.

I know it could, Patch.

I did go to the DIY shop to buy some new planks to replace the broken ones.

Did you get some?

I tried, but the person behind the counter asked me how long I wanted them…

…SO I walked out. I need to find a place where I don’t need to give them back!

OH, Percy. THEY meant how many METRES long!
