We did it! We made it through the long, dark winter and now it’s time for spring to begin! Well, some people believe spring starts on 1 March, while others wait until the spring equinox on 20 March to celebrate the start of the new season. We think it doesn’t really matter when it begins, we’re just happy it’s time for the Kids Alive! Spring Special!
Spring is a time when we see new life everywhere. There’s blossom growing on trees that have just had bare branches for months and birds are happily singing away in the morning after being quiet for so long. There are also plenty of spring fowers, such as daffodils, crocuses and tulips, sprouting up out of the soil and bringing lots of lovely colour to our world. And we haven’t even mentioned those adorable baby chicks or lambs yet –there’s so much new life to enjoy. Why don’t you get outside and enjoy it?
Actually, before you rush off to put on your shoes and coat, let us tell you something else that’s important. The Easter story is also about new life – you can read a cool cartoon version on pages seven to ten in this week’s issue. When Jesus came back to life on Easter Sunday he gave us all the opportunity to start a new life with him! Now that’s something to really celebrate this spring, don’t you think?
Check out pages 12 and 13 to find out more about living life with Jesus
I love spring! It’s my favourite season. I just love seeing everything coming back to life after the winter months. I also love buying some seeds to start growing fowers, fruits or vegetables in my garden. Last year we grew sunfowers and tomatoes, but this year I think we’re going to try and grow some carrots and strawberries.
Recently at school my daughter has been learning about what plants need to grow. They need things such as nutrients from the soil, sunlight and water to grow strong.
Just like plants need certain conditions to grow, there are things we need to grow as Christians too. These include reading the Bible, spending time praying with God and sharing worship with other Christians. If you make sure you have plenty of those three things in your life, you’ll be in a super strong spiritual shape this spring!

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.
Is this an image of a young lady or an older woman? The answer is both! The picture doesn’t change, but your eyes can see two possibilities. If you’re struggling to see more than one image, the young lady’s necklace is also the old woman’s mouth.

DID YOU KNOW?
At the North Pole, when the Sun rises on the spring equinox it begins the change from there being 24 hours of darkness to 24 hours of daylight. There are no sunrises or sunsets. The constant sunshine lasts for up to six months, until the Sun sinks below the horizon during the autumnal equinox.

The Story Continues
Have you read the four-page cartoon called Holy Week Highway in the middle of this week’s issue? It tells the story of Easter, when Jesus died and came back to life. The story doesn’t end there, though. After Easter Sunday, life went on for Jesus’ disciples. They travelled all over the place telling people about Jesus and forming the early Church. Thanks to their hard work and the work of people that came after them, there are now Christians all over the world.
Being a Christian
If you don’t know already, being a Christian means that someone trusts Jesus and does their best to live like him. When Jesus was on Earth he showed people the best way to live. He spoke about kindness and love for others, as well as performing miracles such as healing sick people.
The Trinity
God the Father is the creator of our world. He loves us and everything in our world.
A Christian believes in one God with three parts – God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit.
God the Son is Jesus. Before Jesus was on Earth, the relationship between God and humans was broken. God sent Jesus to fx that break by taking the punishment for the wrong things we’ve done. Jesus died on the cross and made it possible for us all to have a close, loving relationship with God.
What is Church?
The Holy Spirit is someone that helps us to live a good life and show God’s love to others.
Churches are groups of people who support and encourage each other to learn about living life Jesus’ way. They’re like families – the people learn together and help each other through the good and bad parts of life. The people can also gather together to worship God.
If you want to fnd a Salvation Army church near you, check out salvationarmy.org.uk/map-page and put in your postcode.

What is the Bible?
The Bible is the word of God. There are 66 books in the Bible and it was written by many different authors to teach us how to live and how we can show God’s love to those around us.
? ?? ? ? ? ?
There are many different versions of the Bible and you can also read it online at biblegateway.com. Saddleback Kids also have loads of brilliant Bible story videos on YouTube. Check them out!
How Do You Pray?
Prayer is a big part of life as a Christian. Even those who wouldn’t describe themselves as Christians often ask God for help at some point in their lives.
Prayer isn’t just about asking God for help, though. It’s about spending time with God, just like you do with family or friends. Praying can just be chatting through your day with God and sharing any news.
Prayer doesn’t have to be done in silence either. You can pray anywhere, at any time. You can pray when you’re out for a walk, on a bus, while listening to music … even on a roller coaster if you want! It doesn’t matter where, as long as you’re spending time with God.
Dear God…
If you’re not a Christian already, or you just feel like you want God to know that you’re committed to being one of his people, here’s a prayer you can say. You can also draw a little picture of yourself on the right if you want to.
I’m sorry for anything bad or selfish that I’ve done. Please forgive me and help me to make good choices.
Thank you that Jesus died on the cross for me and for sending the Holy Spirit to help me. Please come into my life and stay with me for ever.
