uess what? Some of the stars of So Awkward are back! In case you didn’t watch it, So Awkward is a CBBC TV programme that starred three super-smart friends, Lily, Martha and Jas, who were trying to make sense of life, boys and fitting in at school. In the new 10-part series, So Awkward Academy, former student Lily Hampton returns to Cranmede as a teacher! Yet again, Lily has to navigate her way through crazy situations and cringe-fests – but this time she’s a member of staff! Silly Jeff Malone is also back and he’s now the school’s Deputy Head. When you add in chaotic headteacher, Caroline Marmaduke, Lily’s frenemy Claire Fox, a new science teacher called Jin Hathaway and a gang of kooky kids there’s plenty for Lily to contend with. With all of that going on, life continues to be anything but calm at Cranmede Academy. It’s a series of funny, awkward and embarrassing moments to untangle for everyone!

G

CBBC Pictures

The first episode of ‘So Awkward Academy’ was on CBBC on 14 February. A new episode will air on CBBC every Wednesday and Thursday at 6pm. All episodes will also be available on BBC iPlayer.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I bet Lily from So Awkward Academy can’t believe she’s ended up as a teacher at the school she used to go to. Especially after all those awkward and embarrassing moments there as a teenager! If I could go back in time and tell my teenage self that I’d be the editor of a magazine one day I think it’d be a massive surprise. Being an editor wasn’t part of my plan. What’s really cool is God had a plan for me all along, even if I didn’t know about it. Jeremiah 29:11 says that God has a plan for all of us. God knew the best job for me and he helped me to find my way there. And guess what? He knows exactly where you should be too – listen to him and he’ll help you find where you’re meant to be.

Read the comment below about resting with God

Take a Break

L

ife is busy, isn’t it? You’ve got five days of school every week and homework to do on top of that. Then there’s any sports, music or dance classes or clubs you go to and probably church on Sunday as well. Then the week begins all over again! With all of that stuff going on it’s hard to find time to fit some rest in. One of my favourite times of any day is just before my daughters go to sleep. They get into their beds, we cuddle and I read each of them a story. It’s meant to be a calm and relaxed time … although sometimes it doesn’t turn out like that! After reading the creation story it’s clear that God thinks rest is really important. After making all

the amazing parts of our world, he took a whole day to rest. He blessed the day and made it holy. In fact, that’s where the term ‘holiday’ comes from – holy day. It’s important to find time to rest our minds and bodies, but it’s also great to rest with God. This means letting go of the things that make us feel stressed, worried or overwhelmed and trusting him to take care of us. Is there a time in the week when you can find a quiet space to talk to God? Maybe Sunday evening would be good. Then you can talk to him and put everything for the coming week into his hands.

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.

Move your eyes over different par ts of this grid. Can you see black spo ts in the white circles? When you see the white circles from the corner of your eye , your brain gets confused about which parts of the image are dark and which are light, which creates the flashing effect.

y a D s s e n d in K f o s t c A m o d Ran Today (17 February) is a day when you’ll hopefully see plenty of people doing lovely things for others, because it’s Random Acts of Kindness Day!

Random Acts of Kindness Day is a yearly event to try and help make the world a kinder place. The idea is that people will do random good deeds for others without expecting anything in return. It’s all about showing appreciation of those around you, noticing if people are in need and giving back to others. Although every day is a good day to be kind, you can make an extra special effort on 17 February!

Kindness Community

are You ing! amaz

Keep being you!

Kindness is being friendly, generous and considerate. By being friendly to others you can make them feel more comfortable and happy. Being generous doesn’t mean you have to give them all your money! You can be generous with your time, the things you have or with words of encouragement. And considerate is a word that means being polite and caring. Being kind isn’t just good for others. It can make us feel awesome too! Studies have even shown that kindness is contagious – that means that the kindness spreads. If we’re kind to others it makes it more likely that they’ll also show kindness to the people they interact with. As the kindness continues spreading hopefully we then end up with whole communities full of kindness!

Keep It Simple If you’d like to take part in Random Acts of Kindness Day, there are lots of different ways to get involved. Here are some simple ideas to get you started.

Compliment a friend.

Smile at someone you walk past.

Ask an elderly neighbour if they need anything from the shops.

Make a drink for your parents or carer.

You are really good at singing!

Give up your seat on a bus, train, tram or tube so someone else can sit down.

Send a card or letter to someone who lives on their own.

Make some bookmarks with positive messages or pictures and hide them in library books.

Lend someone your favourite toy.

Let your sibling choose what TV programme or film you watch.

Hold the door open for somebody.

Donate clothes, toys or books to charity shops. You could also take food to your local food bank.

Make cakes and give them to the nurses at your local hospital. Or the people working at your nearest fire station or police station.

Write a thank you note to give to your teacher at school.

Pick up litter that’s not yours.

Keep It Going! Kindness doesn’t have to end at 11.59pm on 17 February! Keep that kind train going by continuing to do good deeds for others!

Remember, even the smallest act of kindness can make someone’s day! KA - p12-13 - 17 February.indd 2

Why are you looking so worried, Robot?

Are you sure? I can’t see anyone.

I’m certain. Everywhere I go, they seem to be following me.

But they’re clever with it. They don’t make a sound.

Look! There they are now!

Silly Robot! That’s your shadow. Of course it follows you everywhere!
