Ed’s
t’s late at night. Jon Arbuckle, the owner of an unusually eld, is fast asleep. Garfeld, however, is wide awake – and he’s hungry! Joined by his best eld takes a peek inside Jon’s fridge. There’s lasagne, pizza and Chinese takeaway. There’s everything that you’d need for a delicious late-night feast.
Sneaking off in the middle of the night to raid the fridge is a regular routine for Garfeld. However, this night is different to any other because two unexpected visitors have broken into the house! These visitors are Roland and Nolan, a pair of super scary dogs sent to capture Garfeld and Odie. Now it looks like Garfeld won’t be having his extra dinner after all!
Before Garfeld’s belly can stop rumbling, he’s reunited with his long-lost dad, Vic, and sent on a wild mission! Garfeld hates adventures almost as much as he hates Mondays. All he wants to do is curl up on his sofa with a mountain of pizza slices. There’s no escaping from this adventure, though – unless Garfeld wants to face the rage of Roland and Nolan’s boss, a terrifying cat called Jinx. When Garfeld’s mission comes to an end and he can fnally tuck into a steaming tower of lasagne, Garfeld might just realise that some things are worth letting his dinner go cold for.
You can watch ‘The Garfield Movie’ in cinemas now
I’ve just been watching the trailer for The Garfeld Movie. It starts off sad as little Garfeld is alone hiding in a cardboard box in the rain. Jon is also alone in an Italian restaurant, feeling sorry for himself. When the two meet, it’s the start of a food-flled life together. They don’t always get along, though, and sometimes Garfeld doesn’t treat Jon very well.
My relationship with Jesus can sometimes be a little like Jon and Garfeld’s. I know there are times when I don’t appreciate enough all the things Jesus does for me. So this week, I’m going to make an extra big effort to make sure Jesus knows how thankful I am that he loves me. To start with I’ll be praying to him more and singing along to some awesome worship songs. Whether you do it through prayer, music, dance or some other way, why don’t you join me?

Why Me?
Have you ever asked the question, ‘Why me?’ before? Perhaps your parents or carers have asked you to wash the dishes after dinner. Or maybe your teacher has picked you to solve a problem on the whiteboard. Or maybe your cat’s had a wee in the middle of your bedroom.
In this week’s Bible cartoon, Jeremiah is called by God to be a prophet. That means that God gave him messages to share with God’s people. That sounds amazing, but some of these messages were quite scary. These messages could get Jeremiah into trouble!
Jeremiah had his own ‘why me?’ moment when he found out that this was God’s plan for him. Somebody else could probably do the job, right? After all, Jeremiah was a bit shy and he was also really young. Some shouty old person would surely be the best choice!
However, God chose Jeremiah for a reason. Even though it didn’t make sense to Jeremiah at that moment, God knew that Jeremiah was the right person to share these messages. Plus, Jeremiah wouldn’t be on his own. God would be with him for the rest of his life, even though things would get tricky at times.
Read the comment on the right about trusting that God knows what he’s doing
Is there anything in your life that God’s asking you to do? Anything that’s making you go, ‘Why me?’ Perhaps you know that you should tell your friends about Jesus but that makes you really scared. You might not feel like the best person for the job, but God’s put you exactly where you are for a reason. So have faith that God will be with you, just like he was with Jeremiah!
asks Jacob Adams
Why Not Me?

Bumper Bible Breakdown
Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.
Israel Forgets God
God had chosen the Israelites to be his special people. They were to live differently from the Canaanites around them by following the laws Moses taught them. Instead, they turned away from God and copied the Canaanites’ bad religion. As a result of their choices, God allowed the other nations to rule over them. When the Israelites realised their mistake and turned back to him for help, God listened. God sent leaders called judges, such as Deborah, Gideon and Samson, to defeat the enemies’ armies. But when everything was OK again, the Israelites soon forgot about God. This happened over and over again. Each time the Israelites’ behaviour became more terrible and awful. However, although they had failed at living as God’s special people, God still kept his side of the promise and had a plan to save them from their bad choices.

WIN! Competition
Have you ever seen a ballerina stand on one leg or watched somebody ride a unicycle? Some people are brilliant at balancing. You might be a balancing pro or you might be as wobbly as a bowl of jelly, but you can now put your balancing skills to the test by stepping onto your own Stay Active Level Out Balance Board!
The Stay Active Level Out Balance Board has three game modes: Challenge, Lightning and Chill. Plus, there are seven moves to master. When you hear a colour called, you’ll need to tilt the board in that colour’s direction. You’ll have to roll the entire board in a circle when you hear ‘360’. If you hear ‘Rock-it’, then you’ll need to rock the board from side to side. When asked to ‘Get Low’, you’ll have to bend down and press a button! Once you’ve mastered your moves, why not challenge your friends and family too?
For your opportunity to win a Stay Active Level Out Balance Board, answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk. Remember to put ‘Stay Active Competition’ in the subject box. Your entry needs to reach us by Friday 28 June when the winners will be chosen. You can also enter by flling in the details on the coupon below and posting it to: Stay Active Competition, Kids Alive! 1 Champion Park, London SE5 8FJ.

30 Days Wild
There are so many beautiful things that you might miss when you go outside! You might not notice a tree’s branches swaying in the wind, its leaves futtering like butterfies. You might not spot blackbirds, sparrows and swifts fying in the sky or a robin making a nest. You might even miss bees buzzing from fower to fower, worms wiggling about in the soil and spiders spinning their webs.
Organised by The Wildlife Trusts, 30 Days Wild runs for the whole of June. Starting today (1 June), participants will be encouraged to do something wild every single day! Over the next 30 days, they’ll hopefully discover how beautiful nature is and learn about how to look after it!
The 30 Days Wild campaign is all about not taking nature for granted. It’s about noticing trees, birds and insects – and seeing how amazing they all are!
Wildlife Activities
The Wildlife Trusts have come up with some amazing ideas for wild things that you can get up to during the whole of June. Here are just a few of their suggestions for what you can do each week.
Week One – Discover Nature
Try and discover lots of slugs and snails. Count how many you fnd.
Pick a random letter from the alphabet and see if you can discover things outside that start with it.
Week Two – Move in Nature
Go on a scavenger hunt to collect items from outside, such as cool rocks or feathers.
Pitch up a tent in your garden and spend the night outside!

Week Three – Help Nature
Learn about how you can reduce your plastic use at wtru.st/less-plastic
Make a home for bees or bugs to live in!
Week Four – Connect with Nature
Sit next to a window and watch the birds in the sky.
Make a picture out of materials you’ve found outside!
Join In!
It’s not too late for you to join in with 30 Days Wild! If you would like to get involved, head to wildlifetrusts.org/30dayswild. You’ll be able to order a free kit that can be sent to your house or to your parent or carer’s email address. Each kit contains a booklet full of ideas for what you can get up to over the next 30 days, as well as a butterfy poster and tons of other activities. If you order a kit to your house, you’ll even get your own packet of seeds to plant!
Make a Bird Feeder
If you’re looking for other ideas of what to get up to during June, here’s a step-by-step guide for how to make a bird feeder with the help of your parents or carers!
1
2

6
Mix everything together with a spoon. Or roll up your sleeves and mix everything together with your hands!
Fill the yoghurt pot with the mixture that you’ve made. Make sure that it’s flled right to the top.
Make sure you recycle your yoghurt pot once it’s been emptied! We don’t want to leave litter outside!
3
Add lots of softened lard to a large mixing bowl, then add lots of bird seeds! If you don’t have bird seeds, you could use non-salted peanut pieces, grated cheese, cooked rice and breadcrumbs!
Ask a parent or carer to pierce the bottom of a clean yoghurt pot with a pin. Then poke a piece of string through the hole. Tie a knot at one end so that the string doesn’t fall out of the pot!
5
Hang your feeder in your garden by tying the string around a branch. Well done! You’ve just made dinner for a bird!
If you’re struggling to follow these instructions, check out a brilliant video at chesterzoo.org/schools/resources/how-to-make-yoghurt-pot-feeders
We hope you have a brilliant time discovering more about our wonderful world this June!
