ave you seen Inside Out? It’s a fantastic ve emotions that live inside the head of an 11-year-old girl called Riley. After Riley moved to a new city, none of the emotions could agree on how best to help Riley deal with all the changes to her life. Joy and Sadness even had a big falling-out! However, the emotions soon learnt how to be a brilliant team!

Inside Out 2, we return to Riley’s mind – just in time for even more changes! Riley has become a teenager and she’s about to go to high school. Joy is ready for all of the highs and lows that will come with Riley growing up, and she’s determined that Riley will face every problem in her life with a smile on her face.

Then a big construction crew barges into the Headquarters in Riley’s mind, hammers at the ready! Before Joy can stop them, the Headquarters are torn apart to make room for four new emotions – Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui (that means boredom) and Envy! With so many emotions up the Headquarters, it seems impossible for them to all work together. However, these new emotions aren’t just here to team up with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust … they’re here to replace them! See ‘Inside Out 2’ in cinemas now

In Inside Out 2, one of the new emotions that moves into Riley’s head is Anxiety. Lots of things can make us feel anxious. Making new friends and taking exams or tests are really common ones. I hate having to talk in front of lots of people –makes me feel so yucky! My stomach feels funny and I even get so anxious that sometimes my hands shake! Does anything make you feel like that?

Thankfully when I feel anxious feelings taking over I have some I can talk to – Jesus! In fact, in the Bible (in Philippians 4: says if we’re friends with Jesus we can share our worries with him and he’ll help us feel better. So next time you have something making you feel anxious or worried, say a prayer to Jesus and ask for his help – he’ll help you feel calmer just like he does for me.

God Wants to Hear It!

Read the comment below about sharing your feelings with God says Jacob Adams

My nanna loved poetry, so for her 80th birthday I wrote her a big book of poems all about her life. I wrote so many poems that it’s hard to remember what they were all about! I do remember that one poem was about my nanna’s dad deciding to adopt her as a baby and another poem was about her meeting my grandad at a disco.

My book of poems showed my nanna how much I loved her. King David wrote poetry too and David’s poems showed God how much he loved him! David didn’t just write a few poems – he wrote at least 73! These poems can be found in the Bible in the book of Psalms.

David knew that God would pay attention to the

poems that he wrote. He wanted to share everything that he was feeling with God, so he wrote poems when his life was going brilliantly and also when nothing seemed to be going right!

Do you share how you’re feeling with God? Sometimes you might be tempted to not tell God when you’re feeling really sad or really happy, but God loves it when we talk to him. He also loves it when we show him how much we care about him.

So why not write some poetry, just like David did? Or maybe you could write God a song. Or maybe you could draw him a comic book. When you share how you’re feeling with God, he always pays attention!

Poetry Corner

Write a poem in the space below – and don’t be afraid to share how you’re feeling. If you’re feeling happy, God wants to know! If you’re feeling sad, God wants to know that too! If you don’t even know how you’re feeling today, God still wants you to share that with him!

Bumper Bible Breakdown

Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.

King Saul

When Samuel was old, the elders of the tribes came to him and asked for a king. Samuel was upset. He prayed to God and God told him to give them a king. God explained that the people had actually rejected him (God) as their true king. God told Samuel to anoint Saul. Saul was very tall, handsome and looked like a strong king. However, he had some character faws that would lead to trouble. When Saul listened to God, things went well and he won many battles. But too often, Saul didn’t listen to God. Samuel tried to help him understand his mistakes, but Saul thought he knew better. So God rejected him as king. Without God’s Spirit helping him, Saul became mad and jealous and spent many years trying to kill David, his successor as king.

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.

This is an interesting triangle. It couldn’t exist as a 3D object in real life. It’s very confusing, because every edge in the middle appears to be on the inside or outside of the shape depending on how you look at it.

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Journey of the Empire Windrush National Windrush Day

Imagine that you’re inside a ship’s cabin. Through a porthole window you can see the ocean. Beyond the ocean, just a blip in the distance, you can see land. It’s the United Kingdom, your new home, and you’re full of excitement.

That’s something that many passengers experienced on 22 June 1948 when a ship called the HMT Empire Windrush arrived in the UK! Out of its 1,027 passengers, 802 were from the Caribbean. These passengers came to help rebuild the UK after the Second World War.

Every year on 22 June, people from all around the UK celebrate the Windrush generation, which is the name used for people from the Caribbean who moved to the UK between 1948 and 1971. Will you join in?

The journey to the UK wasn’t an easy one! It took 22 days for the Empire Windrush to reach its destination. That might not sound like a long time to you – but they didn’t have Nintendo Switches or Disney+ back then, so it must have felt like a very long journey for the people on board!

A New Home

Journalists were waiting for the Empire Windrush to arrive, ready to take plenty of photos. However, the passengers didn’t hang about. They had loads of things they needed to do! Some passengers left Tilbury Docks to go to homes that they’d already prepared, although many people were given temporary accommodation.

Settling In

Life in the UK wasn’t easy for the new arrivals. They were often bullied or hurt because of the colour of their skin. People in the British government even tried to stop more people from arriving from the Caribbean!

However, the Windrush generation wasn’t going to be stopped by mean politicians. This was their home!

Super Skills

The Windrush generation has so many skills. There are excellent engineers, masterful mechanics, crafty carpenters, majestic musicians – and much, much more!

The Windrush generation also played a massive part in establishing the NHS! Many people from the Caribbean had medical training, and they helped to fll the gaps in the UK’s healthcare system!

The Youngest Passenger

The youngest Empire Windrush passenger was Vince Reid. Vince was 13 years old when he arrived in the UK! His parents were looking for a better life than the one they had in Jamaica, so Vince had no choice but to tag along.

Vince had never been out of Jamaica before. It must have been terrifying to be on such a giant ship, thousands of miles away from where he had grown up!

After arriving in the UK, Vince went on to join the Royal Air Force at 16 years old! Then he became a teacher and taught Caribbean and African history.

Vince was one of many amazing people who arrived on the Empire Windrush or on other boats like it. Other passengers included Sam Beaver King, who would become the of Southwark, and Floella Benjamin, an actress, TV presenter and author. She’s even written a children’s book about her experiences called Coming to England.

Celebrate!

The UK became a better place with the arrival of the Windrush generation and that’s something worth celebrating. Here are a few ideas for what you could do to celebrate this special generation of people.

Go to a Caribbean restaurant! Enjoy food that was brought to the UK by the Windrush generation.

Check out BBC Bitesize’s brilliant page all about the arrival of the Empire Windrush at bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8ftp4j/articles/zmmr4xs

Go with a parent or carer to one of the many events taking place to celebrate the Windrush generation! Head to windrush100.org/events to fnd events that are taking place near you.

Don’t forget to celebrate the amazing Windrush generation!
