D a, da-da, da, da, da, daaa, da, da-da, da, da! Saturday nights just got a whole lot more sparkly, because Strictly Come Dancing is back!

Last weekend hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman introduced viewers to the 15 celebrities who will be taking to the dance oor this year. Today (23 September) fans get to see those celebs dance for the rst time with their professional partners. Layton Williams, Annabel Croft, Bobby Brazier and Jody Cundy are four of the contestants ready to take on dances such as the jive, waltz, tango and samba. While popular pro dancers Karen Hauer, Giovanni Pernice, Gorka Marquez and Dianne Buswell are all also back in the ballroom and hoping to get their hands on the Glitterball Trophy.

As in previous years, there will be theme weeks, a trip to Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, plenty of awesome out ts and four judges ready to give their marks. Let’s hope for loads of 10s and a fab-u-lous series!

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is on BBC One on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Tonight’s (23 September) episode starts at 6.15pm.

I love reading your Reader Profles and learning about the things our readers like. For example, we know lots of you love Strictly Come Dancing. We also know that you all have gifts and talents.

As well as enjoying Strictly, we know many of our readers are actually dancers. Plenty of you tell us you’re good at making people laugh. There are a good number of budding sports stars out there. The cool colourings we receive reveal that loads of you are very creative. And it’s also great to read that some of you think you’re fab friends, super siblings or top-notch at taking care of others.

Whether you’re an ace artist, a marvellous musician or an allround good person, we think all our readers are fab-u-lous! God does too and he loves it when you use your talents for him. How can you use your gifts for God?

Give Your Love Away says Ibukun Baku

This week’s cartoon Bible story reminds me of a song from primary school called ‘The Magic Penny’. Some of the lyrics say, ‘Love is something, if you give it away, give it away, you end up having more.’

Ruth, this week’s Bible heroine, did just that. She showed great love and loyalty to Naomi her motherin-law at a time when it would have been much easier to think of her own needs rst. Ruth and Naomi’s situation was very sad as their husbands had died. In Bible times, widows needed a male relative to care for them otherwise life could be very hard. In choosing to stay with Naomi, Ruth gave up her chance of staying in her own country and getting married again.

But her loyalty to Naomi opened another door of

opportunity. As she worked hard to support Naomi by gathering leftover grain, her kind actions were spotted by Boaz. Boaz was so impressed that he went the extra mile to ensure Ruth had more than enough food. Eventually, in a wonderful case of God-incidence, Ruth and Boaz got married, had a baby and started the family line that would lead to King David and nally Jesus.

Each character showed great love to one another and as the song I mentioned earlier suggests, they received so much more love in return. The Bible teaches us that God is faithful, he sees all our good efforts (Matthew 6:3–4) and works things out for our best (Romans 8:28). Is there someone that you can show kindness to this week?

Hot on the thrusters of the Soviet Union launching the rst person into space, Alan Shepard became the rst American in space on 5 May 1961. The launch of Vostok 1 and Yuri Gagarin put the Soviet Union ahead in the space race, so this was a big moment for NASA. Unlike Yuri Gagarin, Alan Shepard didn’t orbit Earth – NASA didn’t achieve that until 20 February 1962 when John Glenn piloted Friendship 7.

Shepard’s ight into space lasted just over 15 minutes. But unlike Yuri Gagarin again, Alan Shepard was actually in control of his space capsule that he named Freedom 7 During his mission he carried out a number of tests including testing the capsule’s retrorockets, which would help later missions to return from orbit. He also made sure the capsule was able to turn and point its blunt end towards Earth for re-entry into the planet’s atmosphere.

Harvest

If you read last week’s KA! World you’ll already know that we’re in the middle of British Food Fortnight. It’s a national celebration of all the diverse and delicious food that Britain produces and it’s taking place between 16 September and 1 October.

British Food Fortnight happens at this time of year because it’s also when many communities celebrate harvest. Love British Food even organise a National Harvest Service every year as a way of highlighting the importance of this special time. The rst National Harvest Service was held back in 2013 and this year it will take place in Peterborough on Sunday 1 October.

Church Celebrations

The tradition of celebrating harvest festivals in churches is believed to have started in 1843 in Morwenstow, Cornwall. The Reverend Robert Hawker conducted a special thanksgiving service at his church and blessed the crops. A year later a hymn with the words ‘Come, ye thankful people come, raise the song of harvest home’ was published. Over the years more and more churches started to hold harvest festivals to thank God for the food the land had provided.

As time went on, people started decorating their churches and produce was brought into the churches so people could give thanks. There were also new hymns written for the services, including the popular favourite ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’.

Harvest Moon

Did you know that the full moon nearest the autumn equinox is called the harvest moon? This year the harvest moon is on 29 September. Traditionally, harvest festivals or services have always been held on the nearest Sunday to the harvest moon. That’s 1 October this year, but lots of people hold events on other dates in September or early October.

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Supper Time

Another harvest tradition is the harvest supper. Traditionally a harvest tea or supper was held for farmers, and anyone else who had helped, to celebrate the end of harvesting. It was a great opportunity to get together and celebrate the end of a year’s hard work.

Even if you don’t work on a farm you can still enjoy a harvest supper. All you need to do is sit down with family and friends, tuck into some delicious food and give thanks. If you want to check out some new recipes using lovely British ingredients, visit lovebritishfood.co.uk/recipes – there are loads of cool ideas.

Food Banks and Donations

Nowadays harvest is often celebrated in schools or churches and children are encouraged to take in donations of food to give to families that need it. Unfortunately, many families are struggling to afford the food they need, so donations to food banks are massively important.

If your family is in a position to help, you can give donations too. See if your parents or carers can nd your local food bank online. They could also try asking your teacher or church leaders. Many supermarkets also have boxes for customers to add donations too. The Salvation Army also has a Harvest Offering. Many Salvation Army churches will take donations during a special harvest service in September or October. Your parents or carers can also donate online at salvationist.org.uk/faith/giving-fundraising/harvest

Give Thanks

Harvest is a great opportunity to give thanks for the food that we have and for the farmers who have worked so hard to grow and harvest it. So here’s a space for you to write or draw a prayer of thanks for all the things you love to eat and drink.
