What a summer of sport we’re having this year! It feels like Euro 2024 has just fnished and I’m still not over the disappointment of England losing the fnal! But now we have the Paris 2024 Olympics to get stuck into. I’m sure the Team GB athletes will give us plenty of epic moments to enjoy!
Being a sports fan means plenty of ups and downs. There are moments that make us punch the air with happiness and others that make us feel like crying. It’s a roller coaster! It’s not just sport that’s full of ups and downs either – lots of life is. I’m sure you’ve had moments that have left you feeling pure joy and others that have made you feel really sad.
One of the best things about being a Christian is that Jesus is with us in all our moments, whether they’re highs, lows or somewhere in between! Whatever you’re facing this week, Jesus is with you!

Give What You Have
What’s the best present that you’ve ever received? Maybe you got a new bike or a games console for Christmas.
In this week’s Bible cartoon, a woman pours a very expensive jug of perfume on to Jesus’ head. The perfume was worth around a year’s salary –in the United Kingdom today that could be around £30,000! Much more than a new bike or the latest games console!
How would you feel if someone offered you a gift that was worth that much money? The disciples didn’t like it. They thought it was a waste of money and told the woman off. However, Jesus understood that the woman was just trying to show him how much she loved him, using what she had.
It’s important that we show Jesus that we love him, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend thousands of pounds on the most expensive bottle of perfume you can fnd! Jesus just wants us to bring whatever we have and offer it to him. It could be our time or talents!
If you’ve got a musical talent you could use that to worship Jesus. But worship isn’t just about music and it doesn’t just happen in a church. Worship can be as simple as offering a prayer to Jesus at the end of the day. Or it could be spending time in nature to appreciate God’s creation. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just make sure Jesus knows how much you love him!
Fill Them Up
Here are some jugs of perfume. Fill them with ideas for ways that you can show Jesus how much you love and worship him.

Bumper Bible Breakdown
Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.
Wicked Rulers
The Israelite kingdom had split in two – and neither King Rehoboam of Judah or King Jeroboam of Israel were any good! The kings made up their own gods for their people to follow and didn’t live how God wanted them to.
God showed the kings that he wasn’t happy with them but they still wouldn’t follow him! To make matters worse, when Rehoboam and Jeroboam died the next kings turned out to be just as bad as they had been!
After years of wicked rulers, Judah fnally got a good king who loved God – a man called Asa. However, Israel continued to have terrible king after terrible king. Then a new king was crowned 36 years after the death of Jeroboam. He was more evil than any king that had come before! His name was Ahab, and he followed a fake god called Baal.

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.
Can you see anything weird about this photo of a girl? It might look like a normal photo from this angle, but if you turn this page upside down, you’ll see that her eyes and mouth are the wrong way up. Our brains don’t recognise faces as well when they’re upside down.

hen you smile you show everybody around you that you’re feeling happy! When you’re shocked you might open your mouth really wide and raise your eyebrows! Our faces often change to show how we’re feeling, so how cool would it be to have a toy that can do the same?

With Kookyloos Golden Gala there are eight new dolls to collect. The dolls all have new hairstyles, facial expressions and out fts, inspired by looks worn by fashion models. Dressed in diamond, butter fy and fower-inspired out fts, these dolls are so stylish they belong in a fashion show!
For your opportunity to win a Kookyloos Golden Gala doll, answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk. France is home to the Eiffel Tower, perfect pastries and Disneyland Paris. This year, France is also home to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!
If you’ve read page 3 of this issue then you’ll already know all about this year’s Olympics. However, we thought it would be a great idea to dive a bit deeper (like Tom Daley) into some facts about a few of the world’s best ever athletes. Plus, we’ve got a ton of fab ideas for how you can get active this summer!
Awesome Athletes
The frst modern Olympic Games took place in 1896 in Athens, Greece. That’s so long ago that Queen Victoria was still alive!
Since then, there have been so many amazing Olympic athletes it’s hard to keep count of them all! Here are a few from the last 128 years that are worth paying attention to.
Jesse Owens
In 1936 the Olympic Games were held in Germany. The Nazis ran the country and they thought that only white athletes were any good. Jesse, a black American man, comfortably proved them wrong, winning four gold medals! He even broke two world records!
Nadia Comaneci
When she was only 14 years old, Romanian Nadia Comaneci became the frst gymnast to achieve a perfect score at the Olympics. In fact, she didn’t just get one perfect score – she got seven of them!
Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt is an Olympic sprinter from Jamaica who retired in 2017. He broke world records in the 100- and 200-metre sprint races. He also earned eight gold medals during his Olympic career. Bolt was so fast that he was given the nickname Lightning Bolt!
Get Active!
Hopefully reading about Jesse, Nadia and Usain has inspired you to want to get active yourself. However, sport isn’t just about collecting medals – it’s also really good for your health!
Regularly exercising can help to keep your heart ft and healthy. It can also help to reduce stress and increase your confdence.
Friendship Day
Playing a sport is a great way of having fun with our friends and making a few new ones too! It’s International Friendship Day on Tuesday (30 July), which is a day all about celebrating the fantastic friendships that we have. So why not team up with a few of your mates for a game of football or hop on your bikes for an adventure?
Sporty Suggestions
Here are a few ideas for some sporty activities that you can get up to.
Go Running
Put on your trainers and go for a run with your family or friends! Running is a brilliant way of exploring the great outdoors.
Get Swimming
Head to your local pool, slip on some swimming goggles and give swimming a try. It’s always better to go swimming with a buddy, so ask a grown-up to join you. If you don’t know how to swim, then maybe ask your parents or carers about getting swimming lessons!
Try Gymnastics
Are you a pro at doing a roly-poly (forward roll)? Perhaps you prefer walking on your hands than your feet! If that sounds like you, then you should give gymnastics a try. Find a club near you by heading to british-gymnastics.org/discover/club
Medal Mayhem
Team GB’s best Olympic athletes asked Patch to look after their gold medals while they’re in Paris. Unfortunately, Patch has lost every single one of them on these two pages! Go on a gold medal hunt and see how many medals you can
