veryone loves a celebration and November is a very special month for Whovians – that’s the nickname for fans of the legendary TV series, Doctor Who. This month sees the 60th anniversary of the first episode of Doctor Who! To celebrate this special occasion there will be three anniversary specials hitting screens from 25 November. Before that the doors of the TARDIS are being thrown open wide to allow people to watch the biggest collection of Doctor Who episodes ever on BBC iPlayer! That gives viewers the perfect opportunity to travel back in time with any of the previous Doctors. There are even spin-offs, such as The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood and Class, and every episode of behindthe-scenes Doctor Who Confidential. So whether you’re already a Doctor Who superfan or you’re watching it for the first time, there’s plenty for you to get stuck into.
Watch previous episodes of ‘Doctor Who’ on BBC iPlayer now
If you could travel back in time, who would you want to meet? I’d like to meet my grandad. I was only six months old when he died, so I never knew him, but everyone who remembers him says he was lovely man. I’m sure lots of you might choose to meet someone famous from history, a well-known sportsperson, or a celebrity from your favourite film or TV programme. No doubt some people might say they’d like to meet Jesus. To be honest, Jesus was my first choice. However, the more I thought about it, I realised I get to meet him every day. When I read the Bible, and talk and listen to Jesus when I pray, I’m meeting him. Of course, it would be cool to witness some events from the Bible, but I hope you get what I mean. Make sure you spend some time with Jesus today.

Read the comment below about how Jesus wants you to tell others about him
Jesus Wants You on His Team says Justin Reeves
I
f you were choosing a group of people to do an important job, who would you choose and how? When I was at school, to pick teams in PE lessons a teacher would select two captains. The rest of us would stand in a line and the captains would take turns to choose one person at a time. They would usually pick their friends or kids they thought would be good at the game first. It felt rubbish if you were one of the last ones to get picked. In this week’s Bible cartoon we see Jesus choose his team. As far as I can tell, each of the people had been left on the line when other teams were picked. They weren’t well educated and probably weren’t much good at anything. The Bible doesn’t
say whether they felt rubbish before Jesus called them, but it does say that each of them went with him straight away. The important thing is Jesus saw something special in each of these people. They spent time watching, listening and learning from him. Then one day he sent them on a mission to tell people that the Kingdom of Heaven was near and to perform miracles. They must have felt special and excited (and maybe a bit scared) by that! The cool thing is Jesus wants you to be on his team too and he has a mission for you to tell others about him. How exciting is that? Scary perhaps, but definitely exciting!
Who to Choose?
Elsewhere in this week’s ‘Kids Alive!’ we’ve asked you to think about who you’d like to meet or where you’d like to go if you could travel back in time. Which of the historical people below would you choose to do the jobs listed?
A) John Lennon B) Len Goodman C) Pele D) Jesus E) Florence Nightingale F) Nelson Mandela
1) Prime Minister 2) Nurse 3) Music teacher 4) Football coach 5) Dance instructor 6) Church leader

The cosmos or universe is so enormous and stupendous it’s mind-boggling! Here are some facts about space that are … well, cosmic!
APOLLO 13 NASA pictures
Apollo 13
Being an astronaut may sound like a very cool job, but it comes with some big risks! Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise had a seriously-scary experience on board NASA’s Apollo 13 in 1970. The spacecraft was launched successfully on its mission towards the Moon, but two days after lift-off an oxygen tank exploded. There was a loss of oxygen and electrical power, which were needed for the spacecraft to get back to Earth successfully.
Fred Haise, John Swigert and James Lovell after landing on Earth
In order to stay alive, the astronauts had to move into a space vehicle called Apollo lunar module to get back to Earth. As they came closer to Earth the astronauts were worried their parachutes wouldn’t work but Lovell, Swigert and Haise all splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean, having survived an extra-dramatic and very frightening mission.

Help Us to Help Others Do you like the idea of helping other people? Most of us have time (or even a bit of spare money) that we can offer up to help others, but sometimes we don’t know how. Well, fundraising as a school is a great way to get together and raise money that will make a big difference in other people’s lives. So it’s fantastic that The Salvation Army has launched the School Fundraising Guide!
The Salvation Army If you don’t already know, The Salvation Army (which publishes Kids Alive!) is a church and charity that helps people in many different ways. They need help from people such as you to raise money to fund the good work they do. Here are some of the ways your fundraising could help The Salvation Army help others.
£4.70...
...could pay for an activity pack to keep young children busy, interested and full of life over the school holidays.
£26... ...could help pay for a weekly parent-and-toddler group where disadvantaged children can play in safety and enjoy a healthy meal.
Fundraising
£15...
...could contribute towards a food parcel to feed a hungry family for a day.
£51... ...could help meet the cost of a Salvation Army officer to run summer holiday activities.

Be Like Ruby! Seven-year-old Ruby raised an amazing £242 to help people experiencing homelessness after seeing someone homeless in her town. She told her mum she wanted to help and they organised a sponsored mountain climb! Amazing! Do you think you could be a fab fundraiser like Ruby?
Get Involved! Your school can fundraise for The Salvation Army in lots of cool ways. First, ask your teachers to visit salvationarmy.org.uk/fundraise-us/school-fundraising and download the School Fundraising Guide. Teachers can also get in touch by emailing challenge@salvationarmy.org.uk – the Challenge and Events Fundraising team would love to hear all about your school’s fundraising plans. They can also offer help and support for any events you’re planning.
Then it’s time to choose a fabulous fundraising activity. There are loads of different options including food drives, clothing collections, bake sales or hosting charity events. Or how about holding a school disco or sponsored fun run? You could even hold a Wear Red Day to represent The Salvation Army’s red shield logo!
It’s also a good idea to set a fundraising goal. This will help motivate your school to hit its target! Remind your teachers to promote your fundraising efforts too, so your school community can come together and make an even bigger difference!
JustGiving Whether you’re fundraising individually or as a school, the easiest way to get the money you’ve raised to The Salvation Army is by setting up a JustGiving fundraising page. Ask your parents, carers or teachers to set one up for you at justgiving.com/salvationarmy.
Learn More If your school wants to learn more about the work and faith of The Salvation Army there’s plenty of information at salvationist.org.uk/resources/schools. Show your teacher this week’s Kids Alive! so they can check it out today.
