Have you ever wondered where the food you eat comes from? It doesn’t just appear out of thin air! Every carrot, onion and Brussels sprout that you put into your tummy has to be grown and picked by farmers. Even breakfast cereal takes a lot of work. To be able to make a bowl of cereal, some farmers need to have grown grain and some farmers might need to have milked a few cows!
Tomorrow (9 June) many farmers all around the United Kingdom will be opening their farms to the general public for Open Farm Sunday. It’s a fantastic opportunity for you to see what it’s like to be a farmer and to learn about all of the hard work that goes into producing our food. Farms won’t only be opening their gates – there’ll be lots of fun activities for you to get up to as well!
No farm will be exactly the same but at some farms you might get to go on a walk, go on a tractor ride, go pond dipping, eat some delicious food and meet a few animals! So why not get outside this Sunday and explore a local farm? We think you’ll have an ‘udderly’ brilliant time!
Open Farm Sunday is organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming). To find a participating farm near you, head to farmsunday.org/visit-a-farm
I love the idea of heading to a farm to see what goes on behind the scenes. Farmers work so hard to get the foods we love to our plates, so it’s cool that we can see some of what they get up to this weekend.
Did you know Jesus tells a story about farming in the Bible? It’s about a farmer who scattered seeds (Mark 4:1–9). All the seeds landed in different places, such as on a path, among weeds and in shallow soil. The seeds that landed in good soil were the only ones that grew big and strong.
In the story Jesus told, the seeds are us. We need to be growing in good soil to become the best people we can be. So make sure you surround yourself with people and things that help you to live a happy and healthy life with Jesus!

Don’t Be Afraid To Be Different!
Read the comment below about how God can use our faith to do amazing things says Jacob Adams
Ionce woke up so late that I almost missed school. I just made it in on time – and then everybody in the playground started looking at me funnily. I looked down at my jumper and realised I’d put it on back to front! Everybody else had their jumpers on properly. I felt a moment of serious panic. I was the odd one out.
In this week’s Bible story, Daniel must have felt like the odd one out too. Whilst the rest of Babylon was praying to King Darius, Daniel prayed to God. Daniel knew that following God was more important than what other people might think of him or what they might do to him.
Daniel’s faith even got him sent to the lions’ den! That must have been terrifying! Lions! With sharp teeth and giant claws! However, God protected
Daniel. The lions didn’t even leave a scratch on him!
When King Darius went to the den the next morning, he didn’t fnd Daniel’s body. Daniel was still alive because God had rescued him. So King Darius saw that God was real and he started to follow God too!
Sometimes being a Christian can make you feel like the odd one out, but that doesn’t mean that you should stop following Jesus! If Daniel had backed down from following God, then Darius wouldn’t have had the opportunity to see how powerful God is!
We shouldn’t be afraid to be Christians, no matter what other people think. God can use our faith to do amazing things. He can even use it to bring other people into his family!
Daniel and the Lie-ons’ Den
Here are six sentences all about the story told in Daniel 6:5-28. Some of the sentences are true and some are absolute nonsense! Put a tick next to the true sentences and a cross next to the ‘lie-ons’.
1. The king of the land was called Darius
2. No one was allowed to pray to anyone but the king for 45 days
3. Daniel prayed to God three times a day
4. There were also tigers in the lions’ den
5. Daniel was allowed to take a sword into the lions’ den
6. An angel closed the lions’ mouths

Bumper Bible Breakdown
Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.
Kindness All Around
Ruth lived with her mother-in-law, Naomi. Their husbands had died and things were hard. So Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem, but told Ruth to stay in Moab with her family. However, Ruth refused and promised to always be there for Naomi. When they returned to Bethlehem, Ruth went to the local feld to pick up leftover grain for her and Naomi to eat. The feld belonged to Boaz who was actually Naomi’s relative. Boaz was very impressed with the kindness Ruth showed Naomi and made sure that his workers left lots of grain for Ruth to pick. As Naomi’s relative, the law meant that Boaz could marry Ruth to take care of her and Naomi. After following the proper procedures, they got married and had a baby called Obed. Naomi was overjoyed. Obed would become King David’s grandfather and part of Jesus’ family tree.

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.
Count how many legs this elephant has. Now count the number of feet. The elephant’s body looks like it has four legs, but there are fve feet! This illusion creates an image that couldn’t exist in real life.

Great Big Green Week
This week many people from all around the United Kingdom will be ‘going green’. That doesn’t mean that they’ll all be feeling sick or that everybody will be turning into the Hulk! What it actually means is that people will be making changes to their lives that are good for the Earth.
Today (8 June) is the frst day of Great Big Green Week, which lasts until 16 June. It’s a week all about looking after nature and fghting climate change! We think it would be fantastic for you to get involved. You don’t actually need to be great, big and green like the Hulk to help protect our world!
Climate Change
You might be wondering what climate change even is, so here’s an explanation for you! Climate change means that the Earth is getting warmer and warmer. That’s because of pollution, which is caused by our cars, plastic waste and by some of the ways we create electricity. It’s also because of overfarming and humans cutting down too many trees!
Warmer weather might sound good to you, especially if you like to wear shorts, but it’s actually really bad for the planet. It means that our weather will become more extreme and that lots of animals will struggle to survive!
During Great Big Green Week, many people will be making changes in their lives to help to tackle climate change!
Swap!
The theme of 2024’s Great Big Green Week is Swap. The aim is to swap things in our lives that might not be good for the planet for things that are good. It’s also about swapping knowledge and ideas with each other so that we know more about how we can help to create a greener world.
12
What Can You Swap?
There are plenty of things in your life that you might be able to swap this week. Here are a few ideas.
Swap video games and TV for time playing outside.
Swap eating meat every day for having a few vegetarian meals each week.
Swap buying brand new clothes with buying clothes from charity shops.
Swap getting a lift to school with riding your bike or walking.
Swap facts with your friends about how to better look after our world!
Great Big Bonus Activities
If you’re looking for even more awesome activities that you could get up to during Great Big Green Week, look no further!
A few amazing artists have made some stunning posters for you to colour in. You can fnd them at greatbiggreenweek.com/get-involved/poster.
Great Big Green Week events are being held all across the country with lots of people getting together for planet-friendly fun. Find an event near you by heading to greatbiggreenweek.com/find-an-event.
Write about swaps that you’ve made and ask a parent or carer to help you to share your story with others. Visit greatbiggreenweek.com/take-action/swaps to fnd out more.
Get Swapping!
Let’s put your swapping skills to the test! The box on the left contains pictures of objects that can be bad for our planet. In the box on the right, write or draw good ‘green’ things that you could swap these objects with.
