I am Samuel Christopher Ng and I am going to be a graphic designer. I was always that kid who didn’t read the words in his story book or comics but only saw the sequence of pictures and made a story in his head, as if the pictures are telling the stories. Never has it crossed my mind that I would become one who visualizes ideas into engaging images telling stories. I never even knew there was such a thing called graphic design. I first heard it in middle school from my friends who used photoshop. “Cool” I thought, so I learned the software and started playing around with it. Ever since, I always created posters for my highschool friends who had birthdays. I did it not because I wanted to be a designer, but because that is my way of describing my felicitation towards them and to make them smile. But also because I couldn’t afford that fancy Gucci bag. But this eventually led me to join and win some poster competitions, and then set my mind to delve deeper into this discipline. Because of my open-mindedness, I work well in groups. I have international experiences and worked in large projects. In result attained an open minded and solution-oriented way of thinking. I do well to think about the design brief and come up with creative solutions to a problems.

Byvelvet is a Luxurious fashion label from Indonesia. Our packaging class in BINUS University assigned to show how imaginative retail products would look like if they were real, using the company’s current visual identity. I used Tracing paper as the key visual element because byvelvet uses a still, sophisticated, faded style of visuals.

Three-way Chess Packaging
Phase: FInal Project
Laser cut 4mm Plywood, laser cut 6mm Cardboard, and 3D Printed Chess Pieces. Matte Waterbase finish. Each part of the packaging is designed in a way to save production cost as the walls, and the cap can be produced in a same sheet in mass-production as it leaves minimum waste. This Three player chess board/packaging design is a semester long project for packaging design class in the Tomas Bata University. The theme of the project to be chosen by individual students are table games. I chose the Three-way Chess since I had a growing interest in playing it at the time.

highlighted address, gotham book 6pt for the rest of the text. The logo Symbol’s width is 20mm. The supergraphic left bottom corner cropping is used and cannot surpass 2/3rd of the envelope because addresses and stamps will be done in that area, The envelope needs to be warm and welcoming. The supergraphic cropping is not strict as long it does not cross the content line which is 1/3rd of the right side.

Business Card The Business Card conveys proffesionality and excitement in the same time. The back cover is comprised of the supergrapghic cropping including the Tree Ship-house

symbol sailing the clouds to convey brand FUN WORLD’s essence. The primary, secondary, and tertiary colored supergraphic is used to differentiate one’s position hierarchy within the organization: Primary for head staffs and below, Secondary for Branch managers and below, Tertiary for CEO and below. Font used is as follows: Gotham Black 8pt for names, and Gotham Book Italic 5pt for Position. Gotham Black 6pt for highlighted Addresses and Gotham Book 6pt for the rest, Symbol width is 15mm. CITIZEN Watch Ad Photography, Editorial Client: CITIZEN Phase: Final Assignment Designer: Samuel C.Ng and Team
This ad campaign features CITIZEN Eco-Drive series - Perpetual Chrono A-T Watch. The watch uses solar as power and can last for 50+ years. To visualize this key strength, we used hyperbole to tell that the watch is so durable that it outlives you, the owner. This was a photography class, therefore all visuals are taken from our studio.

The Jakarta Christian Youth Orchestra asked me to design a poster and Concert Program for their annual concert “Color of Sound”.
Artwork entry for The Association of Applied Graphics and Graphic Design (AUG Design)’s “The World We Want to Live In”.
Poster designed and a selected artwork for “Celebrating Volunteerism” design event.
Based on the copy, The idea was to let the instruments speak for themselves. For colorful instruments to be able to create colorful sounds.
Social media these days become one of the main issues people become less social. Human contact reduced, fanatisism, and attachments to these devices is undoubtedly increasing. So I imagine a world where people Break Free from the bonds in social media, symbolized by a smartphone, and spend more time again at the real world.
To be a volunteer is to sacrifice something valueable to you for the greater good and for others. In my experiences the most valuable, irreplacable asset I donated is Time. In Indonesia we have a lot of donation boxes with holes for money as shown on the artwork. This is a metaphor for the idea. The hand is placed in a perspective coming from the viewer, to encourage the viewer to do the same.
