7 ways to help you snooze without snoring

The irritating sound of snoring can disturb the sleep of both snorer’s and the roommates. Snoring can also destroy a happy marriage. 40% of adults are being affected by snoring. It is twice as common in men as in women and is also known to increase with age. Snoring happens when you can't move air freely through your nose and throat during sleep. This makes the surrounding tissues vibrate, which produces the familiar snoring sound. Many anti-snoring devices are available in the market but you can try these effective remedies to reduce snoring. Peppermint  Peppermint works well for temporary snoring due to dry air, cold or an allergy.  Add one or two drops of peppermint oil to a glass of water. Gargle with it before going to bed.


 Alternatively rub a little peppermint oil into the lower portions of each side of the nose before going to bed. Olive Oil  Combine one-half teaspoon each of olive oil and honey. Consume it daily before going to bed.  Use regularly to also lessen the vibrations in the throat and stop snoring. Steam  Nasal congestion can be the cause of snoring; reduce congestion by inhaling steam.  Pour hot boiling water in a large bowl; add three to four drops of eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil.  Hold a towel over your head and inhale the steam deeply through the nose for 10 minutes. Ghee  Ghee has certain medicinal properties that can help open up blocked nasal passages.  Slightly warm a small amount of Ghee in a microwave.  Use a dropper to put two or three drops of lukewarm ghee in each nostril. Cardamom  Cardamom is effective for opening up blocked nasal passages, and can thus help to reduce snoring.  Add one-half teaspoon of cardamom powder to a glass of warm water and drink an hour before going to bed. Turmeric  Turmeric is a powerful antiseptic and antibiotic agent that can treat inflammation and help reduce heavy snoring.


 Add two teaspoons of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk and drink an hour before going to bed daily. Honey  Add 1 tbsp of honey in a glass of warm water and drink it daily before going to sleep.  Honey has anti-inflammatory properties that act as a lubricant for throat and prevent the occurrence of snoring vibrations. With any of the above remedies, you’ll be able to eliminate or at least reduce snoring and get a good night’s sleep.
