Dhanurasan: steps and benefits

Aerobics, Dance and other physical exercises are related with physical wellbeing, while yoga is more than physical exercise. It helps in maintaining the relationship between mind, body and soul. Dhanu means bow and asana means posture or pose and hence the bow pose. Here are the steps and benefits of dhanurasan. Steps:  Lie on the ground (on stomach) facing downwards.  Inhale slowly and starts bending legs backwards and catch the ankles with the hands.  Put the whole weight on your abdomen.  Only your stomach and pelvic area will touch the ground.  Hold this position for few 15-20 seconds and continue taking a deep breath  Exhale slowly and come back to the starting position  Bend only as far as your body permits. Do not overdo the stretch.  Release the ankles and relax. Benefits:  Helps in reducing belly fat  Stretching can be beneficial in strengthening the back and abdominal muscles.


 Stimulates the reproductive organs  Bow position can tones the leg and arm muscles  Adds greater flexibility to the back  Reduce the stress and fatigue  Helps people with renal diseases Avoid if you have some serious stomach related problems. And those suffering from spinal cord and disc related problems need to consult a doctor before performing dhanurasan.
