DO I HAVE BINGE EATING DISORDER?

Do you eat even though you are not hungry? Do you over eat when you are in stress or bored? Do you feel that your stress and tension can only be relived by eating? Well these can be the signs of Psychological condition called Binge Eating Disorder What is Binge Eating? Binge eating is consuming abnormal amount of food and unable to stop eating. Binge eating will lead to unwanted weight gain or even obesity! It is a Psychological disorder and much more serious than food craving and over eating. The person who is suffering from this cannot control the emotions when the food is around even though he or she is not hungry. Signs and Symptoms:  Eating even when full  Inability to stop eating or control what is eaten  Stockpiling food to consume secretly at a later time  Experiencing feelings of stress or anxiety that can only be relieved by eating  Feelings of numbness or lack of sensation while bingeing  Never experiencing satiation no matter how much amount of food consumed How to Stop Binge Eating?  Differentiate between emotional and physical Hunger if you ate recently then avoid the cravings by doing some another activity.


 Avoid the temptation of eating Junk food, Dessert and snacks by keeping them away from your sight or don’t store them.  Follow the proper schedule of breakfast, lunch and dinner and eat regularly, do not wait till starving.  Do not skip breakfast and meal as skipping the meal will later on turn into binge eating.  Whenever you feel bored or stressed go for a walk, read some novel, chat with friends or involve yourself in painting or gardening it will divert your mind from eating.  Spend 20 minutes daily for exercise. Physical activity can improve the mood and energy levels, also reduce stress. Meditation and yoga do wonders. Depression is highly linked with binge eating. A person may be depressed or can’t express the feelings. Low self-esteem, loneliness and body dissatisfaction may also lead to binge eating .Consult the Psychologist or Psychiatrist for counseling.
