Essential Ayurvedic health tips for winter season: According to ayurveda every season is associated with a Dosha. During winter the Vata inside body increases due to dryness and cold atmosphere. Vata dosha is composed of the air and space elements and it controls all the movement in the body. So here are some of the ayurvedic tips to balance the Vata and stay healthy during winter Everyday Exercise and Yoga  According to Ayurveda in cold season, one can exercise more because during winter we tend to get less exhausted and perspire less.  Taking rich diet and avoiding exercise is not good  So take some long brisk walks, do some exercises and yoga asana Morning tips  Drink a cup of warm water to stimulate a bowel movement.  Rub warmed sesame oil all over your body as it gives warmth. Let it soak in for 5 to 10 minutes, then take a hot shower and exfoliate your skin. Ginger: ultimate cold remedy  Drink ginger tea by adding some small pieces of ginger into water boil for 3-4 minutes strain and drink.  Take a bath infused with ginger and baking soda, by taking 2 tbsp of baking soda and 2 tbsp powdered ginger into a hot tub. Spices for digestion  Add some warming spices in the foods such as cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper to promote digestion during winter. Increases intake of Vitamin D


 Due to lack of sunlight, food rich in Vitamin D such as egg, mushroom, yogurt, cheese, orange juice, zucchini and tomato are recommended.  Avoid some dairy products until your congestion clears up. Treatment of Dryness  Include a bit of ghee in daily diet. It helps to balance Vata, imparts oiliness and reduces dryness of the skin.  Before going to bed, apply a bit of ghee or coconut oil to the dry parts of the body. They will not only soothe the skin but also improve shine and complexion. Footwear  Constant cold exposure can be one of the reasons for increased hip and leg pain during winter as it increases Vata drastically, worsening the pain.  So don’t walk bare foot; always wear footwear or socks, even at home to stay warm.
