These diseases cause dental caries and gum problems Among which we seen first is “Diabetes and oral health” (Topic for next point) (5) Diabetes is systemic disease which characterized by increase in blood sugar level This increased sugar level in Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) allows increases bacterial accumulation and growth and responsible for Dental caries Gum disease – Periodontitis (pyorrhea) (i) Bleeding gums (ii) Bad odor /Smell from mouth (iii) Bone resorption gradually (iv) Mobility of teeth (v) Weakening of teeth Fungal infection such as thrush Lichen planus (an inflammatory, autoimmune skin condition) Mouth ulcers Taste disturbances A dry,burning mouth(low saliva levels) So its important for diabetic patient to control blood sugar level which in turn also maintain oral Health. Even in edentulous patients who wears denture, uncontrolled diabetes shows continuous bone resorption which cause improper sitting of dentures also and denture sore mouth (6) Advice Brush twice a day once in morning and before sleep Avoid taking food in between two meal if possible Consult your dentist for every 3-4 month for routine check up Cleaning of teeth every 6 months to 1 year interval followed by gum massage always.
