Warm Or Cool

Warm and cool tones are used to determine skin tone. This helps to decide what makeup shade to buy, or what metal for jewelry will look best. These tones help to show how to complement your complexion. You can determine if you are a warm or a cool tone simply by looking at the bottom of your wrist in direct sunlight. Look at the veins for either a blue or a green tint. If you have a green tint, you are a WARM TONE. If you have a blue/purple tint, you are a COOL TONE. If you have a Blue green tint, you are a NETURAL TONE.

10

You can also try holding a white sheet of paper to your makeup free face. If your skin gives off a more yellow tint, you are a WARM TONE. If you see more of a pink tint, you are COOL TONE.

COOL TONE looks better in silver metals. WARM TONE looks better in gold metals. NEUTRAL TONE looks good in both gold and silver metals

My Season

Now that you know your skin tone, you can finally learn how to tell your season. If you have ever watched a makeover show, and everyone has, don’t lie, then you know seasons are used to describe what colors look best on you. Yet they never tell you how to tell what you are. First, you need to know if you are clear or muted contrast. Clear means you have a high contrast from hair to skin or eyes, such as pale skin with dark hair or dark eyes. Muted has less contrast, just think blonde hair blue eyes.

12

Spring- warm tone with clear contrast. A spring has yellow or peach skin undertone with light blonde hair to medium brown hair and gold highlights. Eyes can range from blue to brown. Summer – Cool tone with muted contrast. A summer has pink or blue skin undertone with light ashen blonde or brown hair. They also have pale eyes such as green, grey, blue or hazel. Autumn- Warm tone with muted contrast. An autumn has yellow or peach undertone with blonde, red or dark brown hair. The hair will have red or gold natural highlights. With brown, dark blue, green, or hazel eyes. Winter– Cool tone with clear contrast. A winter has pink or blue undertone with dark black or ashen, grey hair with intense dark eyes either blue, green, hazel, grey or black brown.

14

Springs will look best in soft pale colors, think pastel Easter colors. Avoid wearing dark colors, as they will drown out your color. Summers look best in pastels and neutrals or muted colors. Avoid black and orange, as they appear harsh. Autumn looks best in rich earth tones. Avoid bright colors as they overshadow your warm tone. Winters look best in dark jewel tone colors. Avoid washed out colors as they make you look paler.

My Body Type There are five types of women’s figures. This is the way to classify your shape and find what best flatters your shape. The problem is that the names are sometimes offensive. No one wants to think of her figure as a fruit. The one that everyone knows is the hourglass or as I prefer the “X”. This is what Hollywood has determined as the perfect silhouette. An “X” will have equal hip and bust ratio with a small natural waist. Then there is the rectangle, which is straight up and down. They normally have a boyish figure with equal chest, hips and waist. Additionally they typically have small breasts. A triangle, or better known as pear, means your hips are the largest part of your figure. A circle is a when the waist is larger than your bust and hips. A heart is someone with a more prominent chest than hips or waist. They can look heavy due to drape of clothes.

16

My Face Shape Knowing your face shape will help you learn how to customize your contouring routine. The shape of your face will also show you the type of jewelry to wear to flatter your face. This will also help you prevent the dreadful bangs or overly short hair scenario. There are six different types of face shapes. Oval - Longer height than width. The forehead is wider than the chin with a rounded jaw line. Round - Look for soft angles and full cheeks. Square - Equal height and width, defined jaw line. Heart-Wider forehead with small pointed chin. Diamond - Pointed forehead and chin prominent cheekbones. Long/Oblong- Similar to oval but longer looks stretched out vertically.

Dress Code

Have you ever received an invitation to a party with a dress code? Many hosts try to create a feeling with the way everyone is dressed. Superhero or Hawaiian is easy, not as many options. Yet when they say Cocktail or Business Casual what does that mean? Here is your cheat sheet.

20

Casual-Jeans, T-shirt, Day dress. Just think anything but yoga pants and PJ’s. Business casual/ Smart Casual-This one is tricky. This means polos and khakis. Think of Fridays at work, or what you would wear to an informal meeting. You may wear heels or flats. Business-Suits, Pencil Skirts, Blazers, Blouses, no jiggling jewelry and heels. This is what you see at a lawyer’s office. Cocktail-/ Semi-Formal- This is fancy dresses. Cocktail means shorter than Black tie affairs, made in nice fabrics. You can get away with brighter colors and sparkle. Black Tie- Long or short dresses, high heels think award show attire. This is your time to mimic the stars. White Tie -This is long evening dresses only and heels. This is the fanciest of the fancy. Creative or Festive-This is the invite nightmare. No one understands this when they get the invite. Yet it is simple. This means have fun: add color, sparkle, and detail. Just go by the dress code and add trendy flair.

Psychology Of Color Colors can express feelings or moods. The colors your wear are no different. Red- Expresses anger, love, and aggression. Creates energy. Mixed with yellow they can trick the mind to feel hunger. Blue- has calming effects, loyalty, peaceful, fresh Purple- Known for being the color of royalty, luxury, wealth, romance, sophisticated Green- down to earth, refreshing, calming, wealthy. Orange- fun, whimsical, active childlike, and loud. Yellow- overpowering, happy, concentration, not serious. Pink- exciting, playful, vibrant, gaudy. White- light, cleanliness/pure, simplistic Black – authority, timeless, looks skinnier. Can seem cold. Brown- solid, stable, reliable, genuine Grey- confidence, past times, natural, sophisticated.

Chapter Three

Too Many Numbers

Measurements Measurements are the way the fashion industry determines the size of clothes. This is also a way to figure out if something is your size when online ordering. Here is a way to find your own. Just grab some measuring tape and a piece of paper to write down your measurements. Hips- This is the widest part of your butt and hipbones. Waist- This is your natural waist not where your pants ride. The way you find your natural waist is to look for the place between your breast and hips, where it naturally indents. If you cannot find it there, bend to the side. Where your body bends is your natural waist. Bust- This is measured at the widest point of your breast. Measuring tape should hit your nipples. Shoulders- This is measured at the point of your shoulders along the back from point to point. Also knowing your Height, Weight and Shoe Size will be good to add to the paper.

Bra Fitting The Style Identified Lingerie connoisseur Lauren Hulen knows bras are personal but most women do not wear the right size. Roughly 7 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size. 2 most important things to keep in mind... -Is my bra comfortable? -Does my bra fit correctly? Bra Do’s and Don’ts Don’t have extra breast tissue spilling over the top of the bra cup. In contrast, you also don’t want a gap between your breast and the bra cup. It should be smooth from cup to breast, so that if you put a shirt on you can’t see a line where your bra is gapping or you seem to have four boobs instead of two. The bra band should also have a proper tightness. Your band is too big if you lift your arms and your bra goes up too; you shouldn’t have to keep adjusting your bra, it should just stay. On the other hand, you do not want your band to look like it’s trying to cut you in half. If anything should be learned here, it’s that your bra should be as seamless as possible. 32

.How to find your bra size. (remember this process starts over for every bra company because no brand is sized the same.)

Step 1.

We will use Athena as an example.

Measure center bust.

Measure below bust.

Round up to the nearest even number and that is your band size or add 2. In Athena’s case she measured 30 so we added 2 to give her a 32 band.

_____ = _____ 34 - _____ 2 32

Refer to Chart

1=A 2=B 3=C 4=D 5 = E/DD 6 = F/DDD

34

7=G 8=H 9=I 10 = J 11 = K and so on...

32 B

Step 2. Where do they point?

If your breasts point more towards the sides that could mean you are more wide set. You might consider going up a band size because the underwire will be farther apart which could prevent pinching under your arms.

If your breasts point more towards the front you might consider going down a band size because the underwire will be closer together which could prevent the feeling that they are being pulled to the sides or pinching in the front.

Step 3. If your breasts aren’t very firm you may notice a gap at the top of your cup. The solution to this problem could be going down a cup size. This will help you create the look of fullness on top. Also scooping your breasts from the bottom side toward the top center may help to make sure all of your breast tissue is in the cup.

If you have firmer breasts you may have a problem with breast tissue spilling over the top of the cup. In this case you could consider going up in cup size as long as it doesn’t make a gap. Lace cups may not be your friend, they rely on being filled in to create shape and your breasts keep shape on their own.

Athena felt as if a 32B was a little too constricting for her taste and felt a 34B was a better fit for her.

Chapter Four Who What When Where Why

Say What? Pantone-The international color book. If you have a color you want to match, they have the code. They also announce the color of the year. Haute Couture-Is the designs most will only see on the red carpet. The reason Haute Couture is so expensive is that it is one of a kind made in a small section of Paris. Many designers train for years to get this status and only the best of the best ever do. Trend-A trend is a style that has been seen through many designers, everyone wants to buy, and wear. It can last for multiple seasons. Fad-This is a short time fashion do not spend money on a fad. Think the Trucker Hat of the early 2000’s. Natural Fabric-Is made from anything in nature and can be processed but the fibers are not altered. This is cotton, wool, silk and plant based fabrics. Synthetic Fabric- Is a man-made fiber. This can be chemically based but needs to be highly processed to make into fabric. Think glass or plastic fabric.

Chapter Five

Refresher

Fashion Myths No white after Labor Day This is the biggest joke in the fashion world. Everyone has heard it. The key to this is you can wear white after Labor Day but that white changes. For fall and winter look for bright whites that look like snow and pair with a dark color. For summer, think linen. These garments float such sundresses. You have to be skinny to be fashionable Most women see the model at 6ft and 110 lbs and think that is the only person who can be fashionable. Wrong. Anyone, any size can be stylish the key is knowing your body and current trends. Such as the boyish look will not look good on a curvy woman. However, A-line will look great. Short people cannot wear maxi dress This is one pain all short girls have, seeing a long dress and knowing it is too long for you. Well, brands have heard you. Designers do make petite or short version. Always try it on as it may fit perfectly in a regular size and just need a hem adjustment, a tailor is your new best friend. They can make anything perfect. 48

Horizontal stripes make you look fat This is tricky because stripes can make you look bigger but not all do. The key is the height of the stripe, thick stripes can either color block you or show off certain zones. Thin stripes will show off curves. Just be cautious. No mixing Gold and silver This is a recent change. Gold and silvers are now mixing like happy metals. The reason most think it does not work is that silver is cool tone and gold is warm tone. The key in this myth is to not single out one metal. Just like with matching you don’t want anything to stand out as off. Tall Girls cannot wear heels This is a man’s rule because men like to be taller than women but heels are fun and the guys can get over it so just were the cute heels you know you want to. No mix and match prints Prints on prints are a huge trend. The idea is to keep something to make it look like it goes together. Keep the color palette the same and the size of the prints in mind. Always look in a mirror before going out the door.

Layering 101 This is the easiest way to appear put together. The fall is the best time of year, not just for pumpkin lattes and changing leaves, but for cute layering. Always create small leg illusions. Then layer on the top: either a top or a dress. Add a jacket or sweater. Finally top with a scarf or jewelry Easiest way to make an everyday outfit complete.

Hair Hair can show off your personality to the world without saying a word. Hair is the outfit you wear every day. Everyone has the style they prefer. Some require long hair that can be put up, others require Kool aid to become a rainbow. Here are some tips for everyone to make the most out of any style. Tip One: Always trust your Cosmologist. Do not make a sudden drastic change the first time you go to a new hairdresser. Test with a trim or new style like curl or up do. Do not jump in without testing the waters. It’s just hair but you have to live with a bad do until it can grow back. Also take a picture with you showing what you want. People are visual and you fell in love with a style for a reason. This lessens the chances of a mistake. If they have the picture before your appointment, they can do their research and practice before you arrive. 52

Tip Two: Learn one hairstyle to make your own. YouTube and Pinterest are full of hairstyles that can elevate any look. Find a style that makes you your best and make it your go-to. Remember: practice makes perfect. Tip Three: Refresh your hair every few months. Hair gets bored with the same style and products. Products will not show the same effects when used over an extended amount of time. However, the cure is simple. Use a new shampoo or conditioner every few months. Also, if you always sleep in a ponytail, try braids. Change is good for your hair. If your scalp feels oily, try mixing your shampoo with baking soda once or twice a month to refresh the scalp. Tip Four: Do your research. You would not buy a new computer without asking questions. Treat your hair the same way. Read the labels, go online and look at reviews. Whether it is new products or a new do. This is the easiest way to prevent buyer’s remorse.

Accessories The cherry on top of any outfit is the jewelry. This is how you take a look from thrown on to put together. Coco Chanel always said take off one accessory before walking out the door. Sounds easy enough but most modern women are not wearing pounds of jewelry. How can you complete your outfit effortlessly? Follow this simple rule: Big Small Small None If you are wearing a big statement necklace, add small rings and studs then ditch bracelets. These can alternate around like dangle earrings, no necklace, simple bangles, and a small ring. No matter what only have one stand out piece per outfit that draws the eye. Do not have statements that clash.

54

Closet Plunge This is the exhausting part of reviving a wardrobe. So grab a moral support friend. Make sure they know you very well and can be honest with you. Now get your workout on by pulling out everything from your closet to a large space. Make sure you love your hangers; here is your time to go shopping if you don’t. You want hangers of a similar size and color. Now organize into piles by style, such as a shirt pile or pants, jeans‌ This will help you see how much a small space can hold. Then this is where your amazing friend comes in, go through every pile and decide to either keep, trash, or try on. The keepers must be things that are worn on a regular basis, The No Brainers. If you have to remember when you last wore it, put it in the try it on pile. The exception is sentimental garments like wedding dresses. Continue 56

with every pile. This is a long process so be prepared with junk food and movies or music. When completely organized into three piles, take a Break. Go outside or to another room, take the dog for a walk, just clear your mind. Then grab a full-length mirror and try on your pile. If it feels wrong, determine if it can be fixed and if you will fix it. Easy fixes are length or buttons. If not, put in the trash pile. If you cannot decide, have your friend make the painful cut. Put away all the keep garments. Get a bag and put in all the garments being sent to the tailor. Then last step is refreshing. Take your trash pile and split it either going straight to the curb or to be donated. Instantly you will have a weight off your shoulders. By then you will be cut throat.

Chapter Six

Dress My Man

As Style Identified resident male, Bradley Chandler has to know a little about male fashion. For men entering the workforce going from jeans and a worn out high school t-shirt to adulthood suits can be scary. Of course, they run to you and you have no clue what advice to give. But we’re here to save the day.

60

Closet Basic This is mostly up to personal choice. White t-shirts, black, blue, and grey are nice to have around and look good with most anything. More than a couple ties in cool and warm colors. Black and Brown belts. Pairs of jeans with one being for messy work. Black and Brown dress shoes: the style is up to you (I prefer oxfords for the classy and professional look). Suits: Black is a standard, grey is classic, and blue is stylish. Khakis are a good item to wear with polos.

Honey Tie My Tie? Be prepared for this question, it will come up. I guarantee it. Don’t guess your way through this, your man will not appreciate his coworkers pointing and laughing at him. Start by practicing the basic knots. Half Windsor, Windsor, Four in hand, or Pratt knot. These are staples in the business world and will always look at least good enough for business to be done. Practice these knots on yourself until you can achieve a good knot with good tie length Look at tie-a-tie.net for easy how to on any style you would like to learn There are other knots that are not nearly as used and I would only suggest on special occasions. They will take a lot of practice and tie consumption tends to be very high, meaning that there won’t be much of a tail left at the end.

62

Bowtie? The trend for men now is to wear bowties, after all it took women long enough to learn how to tie a tie now they throw a bowtie in to the mix. The way to tie a bowtie is step one line up the bowtie flat on his chest with one side longer than the other make that side your dominant hand. Take the long side and cross it over and up and through to the opposite side of the starting point. Then you make a fold with the short end to make the start of your bow. Then take the long end in your other hand and put it over the bow. Fold over the long end to a bow and here the loop step, which is the tricky part. It is helpful if you realize that the ends of the tie need to go on opposite sides of the knot. Alternatively, if it helps, when passing the longer end through the loop at the back of the knot, push the fold through so that it comes out on the opposite side of the first fold. You should be able to put your fingers through a loop on either side of the knot. Then tighten everything up and ta dah. If you want a visual guide, I suggest art of manliness on YouTube.

Pant Break No break. This has come to be seen as more fashionable lately. In this look with no horizontal crease in your pant leg it can appear as if you are aiming for the high water look. No break is more risky and can make a bold statement for the right person. A slender gentleman will be more capable of wearing this look to full effect. Quarter to medium break. This crease in your pant leg that does not fully overlap is seen as the professional standard. It is a go-to for those with average height and build. It will be very comfortable but what it gives you in safety it takes in boldness. This classic look works well most of the time. Full break. This deep crease in the front of your pant leg is most risky and seen to be quite the gamble. It is meant for those that truly wish to push the envelope and can work with any body style. It is not seen as much in common fashion. It is my opinion that this one is a little too casual or relaxed for the work place. 64

How a Suit Should Look Jacket length should come down to thumb knuckle, or as others say, “it should at least cover your rear-end. Do not worry about getting a perfectly fitted suit. Always ensure that the jacket and pants are long enough. The pants can be hemmed and the jacket cannot have length added (should be proper length from beginning). The jacket may be taken in to fit your upper body in a more flattering way. I always feel fat when I buy a jacket off the rack. Tailors will correct this issue with no difficulty, just make sure to buy slim if you are slim, regular if you are regular, etc. The sleeves are also easily adjusted. Another tip: do not forget to clip the tack on the tail of the coat. This will avoid an embarrassing moment for him. The jacket should not totally cover sleeves of shirt nor the collar. Break at the bottom of pants is up to personal choice. No break seems a little too short for my significant other, full break seems lazy and unkempt. Quarter to half break is his ideal range. Some prefer other lengths, just keep in mind what the interviewer or boss will think when they see it.
