Universal Remote Labor Guide

Introduction

Overview This labor pricing guide has been created to aid in assembling complete solutions and applying installation and programming labor SKUs necessary to implement them. Within this guide are diagrams with various product examples demonstrating their associated labor SKU descriptions and how they may be used within a solution. While this guide provides the CUS labor SKUs for the products included in a solution, labor for wire runs, TVs, and speaker installations should be added to the final solution labor cost as required.

How to Use This Labor Guide Assemble a product solution. Before you begin, review the System Design Guidelines section to determine if this product group is right for the client. Locate the products within the Pricing Glossary section of this guide. Add the standard installation labor (CUS SKU) for all products associated with the system i.e. wire runs, bundle runs, component installation etc. Replace the Tyler CUS SKU description with the part description being installed. Add a single PROG SKU line to the ticket for each area. Replace the Tyler PROG SKU description with what is being programmed or integrated into an area. Create an extended description for the area in Tyler by placing a Tilda (~) before the information entered in the programming description, this will create four additional fields that can be filled in with the required information. Submit the completed system proposal to your Field Supervisor for approval.

Universal Remote Labor Guide

Product Overview

A Universal Remote will make your theater experience exciting, easy to operate and assure more enjoyment from your home theater investment. A Universal Remote will eliminate the need for multiple remotes. Various models of remotes and basestations are available for operating the most simple to the complex systems. No more pointing necessary when used with an RF basestation or Master System Controller, allowing most systems to be concealed (out of sight).

System Design Guidelines Only the MRF350 or the MSC400 will be supported in Universal Remote applications. The RFX250 antenna should always be positioned away from any A/V equipment. (CUSIRREPEATR includes remotely locating the RF sensor.)

The MX950 and the MX900 should not be sold on the same job. These remotes have a similar look and feel, but some buttons are differently placed. In order to prevent any confusion from one room to the next, selling the same remote works best. This allows the customer to easily use the system in any area of the home. The current MX850 is not compatible with either the MRF350 or the MSC400.

Application Guidlelines pg.1

Master System Controller Use this product when: you want ultimate system control and bulletproof reliability.

MSC400 Master System Controller

This product is designed to be the central workhorse for controlling an entire home theater automation system including motorized screens, lighting and more. The MSC400 has the abiltiy to control IR and RS-232 devices, and includes builtin relays. It has video and power sensing capabilities which will eliminate the frustration of integrating devices which “do not” have discrete power on/off commands (i.e. VCR, Cable Box, etc.), or waiting for power macros to complete when not required. Sensor inputs can automatically trigger events. For example: if a game console were powered on; the TV and A/V receiver could turn on as well in response to the MSC400 sensing a signal from that game console. Includes the RFX250 narrow band antenna. This antenna will allow all of the equipment to be safely concealed while still maintaining flawless control. Because the macro commands reside in the MSC400 instead of the remote, macro functionality is more reliable and precise. The MSC400 raises the level of system reliability and ease of use. This is not compatible with the MX850 remote, or MX3000's built before April 1, 2005.

RF Basestation

Use this product when: you are not using an MSC400 Master System Controller. The MRF350 is the next best solution for reliable system operation. The MRF350 includes an RFX250 narrow band RF antenna. Controls multiple pieces of equipment flawlessly without the need for “line of sight” operation through the use of it’s 6 IR port outputs. This device should be used in any situation in which a Universal Remote control is being used to operate several pieces of equipment. This is not compatible with the MX850 remote, or MX3000's built before April 1, 2005.

MRF350 RF Basestation

Additional RF Antenna Add this product when: you need extended control of your system from another area of the home.

RFX250 RF Extender Antenna

Universal Remote Labor Guide v1 November 16, 2006 Page 6 of 15

This device is added to an existing MRF350 or MSC400 when additional range is required. Up to 3 RF antennas can be used on a single MSC400 or MRF350 for optimum range and reliability. This is not compatible with the MX850 remote, or MX3000's built before April 1, 2005.

However, each row of 2 buttons can share the same command on the same line allowing for up to 11 characters of text for more accurate labeling. Note: this also makes the remote more user friendly for left or right handed users. Each device screen can be assigned a specific background color for easier navigation. Simple navigation by means of Watch/Listen buttons. The internal motion sensor automatically turns the backlight on whenever the remote is handled. Comes with rechargeable lithium-ion battery and docking station.

Use this product when: you want to control a basic home theater. Hard buttons, including “watch and listen” make this remote easy for anyone to use. User friendly, backlit, hard button remote with customizable screen. A row of 6 buttons (6 characters each) on the right side of the screen can be programmed to perform product specific operations. Simple navigation by means of Watch/Listen buttons. Button activated backlight. Not rechargeable (comes with 4 AAA batteries) MX900 IR/RF Touch Screen Remote

Application Guidlines pg.3

Optional/Additional MSC-400 Accessories The video sensing cable enables the MSC400 to sense if a video output device is powered on or off. This will provide reliable operation of toggle only devices, and assure efficient macro capability. A typical application would be a video game system. A video sense change on/off can trigger a macro from the MSC400. Video Sensing Cable

Voltage Sensing Cable

The voltage sensing cable enables the MSC400 to acknowledge if a device is powered on or off. This will provide reliable operation of toggle only devices, and assure efficient macro capability. The voltage change can trigger a macro from the MSC400. Be sure to add the necessary power supply, current sensor or trigger device to connect to the voltage sensor’s inputs. A typical application would involve a 12v transformer (power supply) which would plug into a switched outlet of a cable box.

12V Niles transformer which can be used with the voltage sensing cable to supply trigger voltage from a switched outlet (i.e. on a cable box or receiver). Niles part #12V800MA Transformer

The sleeved IR cable is specifically designed for use in the MSC400 ports 7-12 due to the ports having serial control capabilities. These emitters come in a 6 pack only. Sleeved IR cable

An MCM IR jumper cable should be used when a device offers a 3.5mm IR input. Use this method whenever a component has a known working IR input on it’s rear. This is far more reliable and eliminates the common problem of flashers being knocked off the front face of components. MCM part# 24-810 3.5mm to 3.5mm IR jumper cable

RS-232 should be used for any device which has serial control capabilities for more reliable operation. The MSC400 has a total of 6 available serial ports (ports 7-12). Be sure that the proper 9-pin gender (male/female) is used according to the device which it is applied. RS-232
