Goldsheep may sound like a brand that follows the crowd but they sure know how to exude individuality and over-rule the traditional notions of athleisure wear. TCL: Firstly, your brand is completely different to others out there, what inspired you to start GoldSheep?
TCL: What are the inspirations behind your designs?
GS: Everything is an inspiration for
GS: I was living in NYC and working a legging. Basically I like to come in the fashion industry, unhappy because I was not doing what I love. I love art and photography and going against the rules of what the fashion industry tells you to do. I would see the thousands of legs every day walking down the streets of NYC and thought they would look so much better if they had art on them. I wanted to take art and photography and transfer the images to tell a story. So that is exactly what I did. We are very different from other brands because I honestly don’t look at any other brands or what they are doing. At Goldsheep we make what makes us happy not what is necessarily hot in the fashion industry.

We play around with the images on Photoshop and create prints that we as a team feel speak to our customer. We like taking objects that make people happy and putting them on the pants. Those always sell the best. For example: our champagne leggings. Those are one of our best sellers.
TCL: How do you think your brand differs from others?
GS: I think Goldsheep is different from other companies in that we are an on demand clothing company. We do not hold any stock in inventory, and each order is custom made in our shop in Southern California. We also do pop ups all the time, featuring things we are loving that week. I don’t know how many other companies that can have an idea for a design and then have it up and selling on their website in 20 minutes! Quite simply, nobody does prints like we do. TCL: The athleisure trend has sky-rocketed over the past year, what is your view on the athleisure trend and why do you think it has become so popular?
GS: I think it became popular once people started doing group classes like Soul Cycle, Pure Barre and CorePower yoga and loved them. The fitness craze started a long time ago and has grown so much because it makes people feel good. On top of that people started dressing more relaxed and I love that. I do not think the athleisure trend is going anywhere but up from this point. People want to feel good and happy and that is why this trend will keep on going.
TCL: People these days are highly interactive with health and wellbeing, do you feel like your brand is relatable because you promote this in a way that is trend led and fashionable?
GS: People want to feel good and looking good helps with that. Goldsheep promote a happy and healthy lifestyle. I think its relatable because we are doing the same thing they are. Basically we know if someone gets our awesome happy pants they will be motivated to work out or be active in some way. Customers will immediately smile when they put them on because they are so fun and comfortable. On top of that they are very flattering. I think people love them because they are not just workout pants. Goldsheep leggings were made for everyday wear and so are perfect for both. TCL: Lastly, you currently only sell in the US, any plans to stock here in the UK?
GS: We ship everywhere for online and we are currently in the process of getting it stocked in the UK. I think the UK is the perfect place for Goldsheep.

URBANYOGA Anja Humljan is an artist, architect and yoga teacher who started the Urban Yoga project . The project aims to inspire people to experiment with their bodies and engage with what they feel, touch, smell, hear and taste in the city. She started a series of photos in New York, Paris, Madrid and Ljubljana to change the way she feels and moves in the city. According to her, the city must not be felt as a disturbing space but more like a vital source of energy.
The UY photos are metaphors for an alternative way of understanding the relationship between the urban environment and the sensouous body. They explore the way our bodies identify and respond to the space around us; while moving through a space we subconsciously measure it with all our senses at once.

at the Hôtel Vagabond Kate March was Hôtel Vagabond’s Artist-inResidence between August and September 2016, conceptualizing and choreographing the four hour immersive dinner experience, Revolution X. TCL: Fill in the blank: “Revolution X is the most __________ piece I have produced so far."
KM: Socially & politically charged. TCL: How did Revolution X begin?
KM: From the start, I knew I wanted the creative process and final piece to originate from a genuine and pure response to the hotel; truly sticking to site-specific art making. The rebellious energy and the hotel’s tagline, "If you must get into trouble, do it at the Vagabond”, made me feel empowered to be my boldest self.
The visual art pieces in the hotel inspired me in new ways as well. I remember sitting in the salon one day under an image of a cowboy. I started tying my ankles and wrists up during the Vagabond Salon's afternoon tea to explore movement in a new way. That was a major turning point which led to the refinement of my ideas. TCL: What was the most significant message behind Revolution X?
KM: If we want to see positive change in the world, we have to understand and own our personal power. Be courageous, revolutionary, and salute the leader within.
TCL: What do you envision next?
KM: The beauty of having put so much time, energy and dedication into this project is that I can now take it and develop it within new spaces. The beautiful thing about it for me is that it will always bring back memories of Singapore and the space the piece was originally born in. I am looking to take the piece to New York and Hong Kong next. This experience has played an important role in my artistic evolution, and I can see myself wanting to become more political and fearless when delivering empowering messages in the future.

THE ONES TO KNOW Elena Tyutina
FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY | Spéos Photographic Institute, Paris, France Inspired by everything that surrounds her in daily life, be it anything from nature and architecture, to the weather and other people’s stories, Elena Tyutina chose the Spéos Photographic Institute in Paris to help her excel at her art. By taking notes on everything she sees, she starts to dream up a story that she can bring alive through the art of photography. Elena captures a moment of life through her lens and discovers the beauty of the person in a way that no-one else can. Through her work, she is able to make people believe in her story and reach a harmony that fills the mood she desires. What are your influences and inspirations that led you to Studio Photography? I grew up in the family of a Russian military photographer and as a result am a very visual person. Over the years, photos by Annie Leibovitz have inspired me and one day I had the chance to meet her in person. That was the day when I made a wish – to become a successful photographer and meet her again. Today I am happy that I took the best decision of my life – to follow my passion and to learn about this field.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time and what are your hopes for the future? I am a very ambitious person, as I have lived in many different cities such as Moscow, Brussels, Tokyo and Paris. I hope I will continue my photography career by traveling the world and fulfilling my dreams by shooting campaigns for the biggest luxury brands. I want to enrich my everyday life with powerful and interesting people who are ambitious and ready to go for their goals no matter what.
What do you like and dislike about the industry you are in? I love photography and the fashion industry as it has the power to create a dream for any type of person, regardless of age, nationality or gender. Every year the fashion industry creates many talents, both creative and business minded. It is growing and transforming, but at the same time it has a big challenge – to create a surprise, something new, big, powerful and unforgettable. This industry can give you wings to fly, but can leave you without any chances if you don’t push hard enough.
