everyone’s talking about... SELENA GOMEZ MELTDOWN

The news that Selena Gomez has cancelled her Revival Tour may be more to do with rehab then her Lupus disease. According to insiders, the Gomez family held a desperate intervention regarding her escalating drug use forcing her to check into rehab. The official line is that Selena has been having complications with Lupus - a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body´s immune system attacks its own organs. Although a friend told Radar Online, “It is terrible she has Lupus but she is using this as an excuse for everything lately and the truth is she is a mess right now. She has been feeling completely alone lately.” It is no secret that Gomez has had a trouble few months. Her best friend 22-year old Voice contestant Christina Grimmie was shot dead by a crazed fan in June. Plus, she has been having to deal with rumours that she cheated with Zayn Malik, who is dating model Gigi Hadid and her on-off again relationship with Justin Bieber has taken a turn for the worse with the pair having a very public Instagram spat. “All this has led her to begin using a potentially deadly cocktail of Lunesta, Ambien, Klonopin and Xanax,” a source close to the singer continued.

SHEER MADNESS

We´re beginning to wonder if Kim Kardashian even remembers what a bra is?! The reality TV star wowed onlookers during New York Fashion Week wearing a series of completely seethrough sheer tops and bodysuits. Always one to shock, Kim who gave birth to son Saint West in December, left little to the imagination.

TAYLOR & TOM: IT'S OVER

The blossoming relationship between Taylor Swift and Brit actor Tom Hiddlestone has already come to an end. Taylor dated Tom for 2 months following her failed relationship with DJ Calvin Harris and it seems the long distance (Tom was filming Thor 2 in Australia) was the reason for the split. Taylor was also rumoured to be annoyed by Tom´s very public displays of affection, wearing an “I Love TS” T-shirt and a temporary heart tattoo emblazoned with the letter T at the artist´s annual July 4th bash. Too much too, too quickly Tom!

news MEL B BLASTS FORMER BANDMATES

Scary northerner Mel B has blasted former Spice Girl band members Victoria Beckham and Melanie C for not joining the upcoming 20th anniversary tour. Never the shy and retiring type, when funnyman James Corden asked why they are reuniting as a trio by, she replied: “Because the other bastards didn´t want to do it!” Causing the audience of Corden´s Late Late TV show to laugh, Mel quickly edited herself, saying: “Let me correct that, my two lovely ladies!” “Victoria is busy with her fashion range and Mel is recording a solo album, so they politely declined and gave us their blessing,” she explained. The Spice Girls were the biggest selling girl band to date. Their debut single Wannabe hit the number one spot in 31 countries and they accumulated an estimated $800 million fortune during their time at the top. The girls split in 2000 but reunited for a 2007 tour, as well as performing at the London 2012 Olympics. The plans for the 2017 tour will include “guests” joining them on stage but no Victoria or Mel C replacements.

CLIFF RICHARD FACES NEW SEX SCANDAL

Pop star Cliff Richard has been hit by a fresh sex scandal as one of his alleged victims has challenged the Crown Prosecution Services decision not to prosecute the star. This takes the number of cases against Sir Cliff, 75, to two and CPS has said they are dealing with both reviews with an outcome likely by mid-October. In total four men have accused the pop star of sex offences relating to incidents between 1958 and the early 80´s. Sir Cliff denies all the claims.

I´M A CELEB BANS REALITY STARS

Producers from ITV show “I´m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” are putting a ban on popular reality TV stars this year. Last year´s show got a ribbing for featuring too many reality show stars with Geordie Shore´s Vicky Pattison being crowned Queen of the Jungle while TOWIE´s Ferne McCann and X Factor´s George Shelley came second and third respectively. “This year I´m a Celeb… wants to go back to it´s roots by signing up more cult favourites from the past and current newsworth personnel,” an ITV source said. It is also believed these stars “dumb down” audiences and viewers are keen to see more “credible campmates.” The 2016 show is due to air in November with Politician Nigel Farage, WAG Colleen Rooney and Olympic gymnast Louis Smith tipped to be in the line-up.

CHERYL PREGNANCY RUMOURS

Chery Cole´s recent LÓreal ad showing the singer with a noticeably fuller face has sparked pregnancy rumours. The normally waif like singer has been dating former One Direction star Liam Payne for the past year and has always said she wants to have children. The LÓreal ad debuted last week and shocked fans were quick to point out that 33-yearold Cheryl had gained a lot of weight. The couple have refused to confirm or deny the claims but have also been keeping a low profile, they were last seen out in June at Liam´s sister´s wedding. Liam has also added fuel to the fire by changing his Twitter status to “the luckiest man in the world,” which considering the very public rumours could be alluding to his future fatherhood.

SAMSUNG SPOILER!

Samsung has made no secret about its plans for flexible phones and foldabale technology, but are they closer to achieving their goals than we thought? A recent patent filing showed a foldable mobile device, that unwraps to reveal a keyboard you can type on with a screen in the centre. While this bluetooth/ keyboard/tablet seems impressive, two more images appear showing the device being bent over into a quarter of a circle and turning into a wearable watch. Galaxy Smart Wings has been suggested as the appropriated name for the patent-pending device. Nifty. But whether this Samsung ever takes flight is another thing. Watch this space.

MK SMARTWATCH

Michael Kors has brought out its first ever Access Smartwatch, and it´s looking a lot more like tech that people might actually want to wear, with the classic Kors façade and a range of interchangeable faces that can be swapped at the touch of a button for any occasion. Plus, at only €350, compared to other smart watches it won´t break the bank. Slightly bigger than the average Kors faces at 45mm (compared to the standard 36mm) MK´s Smartwatch can hold an impressive 4GB of storage.

On the 2016 Fall Runways of Gucci, Mui Mui and Thom Browne, the precedent for rosy cheeks was firmly set this season. ‘CHILLIN’ CON CARNE Autumn is here, and whilst there are no crisp air, orange leaves or conkers on the floor here in Spain, we can still recreate the feeling of home with this delicious chilli con carne. With only 387 calories per portion and a 5 star rating on BBC Good Food, it’s the perfect comfort food to make you feel right at home.

INGREDIENTS • 1 tbsp oil • 1 large onion • 1 red pepper • 2 garlic cloves, peeled • 1 heaped tsp hot chilli powder (or 1 level tbsp if you only have mild) • 1 tsp paprika • 1 tsp ground cumin • 500g lean minced beef • 1 beef stock cube • 400g can chopped tomatoes • ½ tsp dried marjoram • 1 tsp sugar • 2 tbsp tomato purée • 410g can red kidney beans • plain boiled long grain rice, to serve • soured cream, to serve METHOD 1. Dice 1 large onion, cut 1 red pepper in half lengthways, remove stalk and wash the seeds away, then chop. Peel and finely chop 2 garlic cloves. 2. Put your pan on the hob over a medium heat. Add the oil and leave it for 1-2 minutes until hot. Add the onions and cook, stirring fairly frequently, for about 5 minutes, or until the onions are soft, squidgy and slightly translucent. Tip in the garlic, red pepper, 1 heaped tsp hot chilli

WINE MATCH

powder or 1 level tbsp mild chilli powder, 1 tsp paprika and 1 tsp ground cumin. Give it a good stir, then leave it to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. 3. Turn the heat up a bit, add the meat to the pan and break it up with your spoon or spatula. Keep stirring and prodding for at least 5 minutes, until all the mince is in uniform, mince-sized lumps and there are no more pink bits. Make sure you keep the heat hot enough for the meat to fry and become brown, rather than just stew. 4. Crumble 1 beef stock cube into 300ml hot water. Pour this into the pan with the mince mixture. Open 1 can of chopped tomatoes and add these as well. Tip in ½ tsp dried marjoram and 1 tsp sugar, and add a good shake of salt and pepper. Squirt in about 2 tbsp tomato purée and stir the sauce well. 5. Bring the whole thing to the boil, give it a good stir and put a lid on the pan. Turn down the heat until it is gently bubbling and leave it for

20 minutes. You should check on the pan occasionally to stir it and make sure the sauce doesn’t catch on the bottom of the pan or isn’t drying out. If it is, add a couple of tablespoons of water and make sure that the heat really is low enough. After simmering gently, the saucy mince mixture should look thick, moist and juicy. 6. Drain and rinse 1 can of red kidney beans and stir them into the chilli pot. Bring to the boil again, and gently bubble without the lid for another 10 minutes, adding a little more water if it looks too dry. Taste a bit of the chilli and season. It will probably take a lot more seasoning than you think. Now replace the lid, turn off the heat and leave your chilli to stand for 10 minutes before serving, and relax. Leaving your chilli to stand is really important as it allows the flavours to mingle with the meat. 7. Serve with soured cream and plain boiled long grain rice.

A beer would be the safest option to have with a chili, but safe is boring. Instead opt for a Red Zinfandel, which is both rich and ripe, bursting with bramble fruit with just a touch of vanilla. These flavours create the perfect blend to mix with anything meaty. A Beefsteak Club Malbec says it all in the name, the wine that is made for beef. Deep and vibrant with an intense nose of plum, damson and dark chocolate aromas. Lush and layered on the palate, with well-integrated oak and plenty of fine tannins, it will complement your chilli to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN

CRAIG DAVID: FOLLOWING MY INTUITION

JODI PICOULT: SMALL GREAT THINGS

After the incredible worldwide success of Paula Hawkins novel ‘The Girl on the Train,’ the movie of the same title has been adapted and will be released this month. The book certainly was a huge page turner that kept us on the edge of our seats and we have no doubt that the movie will give us that same nail biting experience. With an all-star cast, gracing our screens are the likes of Emily Blunt (Rachel) Luke Evans (Scott) Justin Theroux (Tom) and Lisa Kudrow (Monica.) Directed by Tate Taylor who has previously directed ‘The Help,’ we have extremely high expectations of this film. The mystery/thriller focuses on Rachel, a divorcee alcoholic on her train commute who fantasises about a couple who lives a couple of doors down from her ex and his new family. One day she sees something shocking and gets herself caught up in the mystery that will soon follow to change the lives of everyone. Thrilling stuff right? Blunt said of playing the character Rachel, “I don’t have an addictive personality whatsoever, so it was like wearing somebody else’s skin.” “As alien as this person is to who I truly am, I had to understand her and empathise and get into that mind set.” ‘The Girl on the Train’ is set to be released on 7th October. Critics are calling the film “Gripping, enthralling – a top-notch thriller.”

Back at the end of 2015, Craid David sent the internet into complete meltdown with his insane freestyle on Capital FM. Since then we have been so ready for his official return, and it’s happening right now! It has been 6 years since his last album ‘Signed. Sealed. Delivered.’ was released, and we kind of forgot about him, until he came back with a bang and we realised we needed him back in our lives again. Longstanding Craig David fans will probably remember he became the central joke and inspiration behind comedy sketch show Bo Selecta in the noughties, which prompted his break from the spotlight as he was not taken seriously. Craig says “I’m back in that 16 year old kid mode, hungry, passionate and making music that I’m truly proud of. I want to deliver the music that people have been asking for, for so long, following my intuition and coming from a great place.” The ‘Seven Days’ singer is giving us all the nostalgic feels by bringing UK Garage back in his new album, ‘Following my Intuition,’ sending us all back to the noughties. Although he has kept a tight lip on his comeback album, we do know that it features tracks ‘When the Bassline Drops’ featuring Big Narstie, ‘Aint Giving Up’ and Blonde collaboration, ‘Nothing like this.’ We all love a good collab.

The number 1 New York Times best-selling author of the book turned film, ‘My Sister’s Keeper,’ brings us ‘Small Great Things.’ Tackling race, privilege, prejudice, justice and compassion all things that are very much still a problem in today’s society, this book is sure to send you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Ruth Jefferson is a labour and delivery nurse at a hospital in Connecticut. Giving a routine check up on a newborn baby she is reassigned to another patient because the parents are white supremacists who don’t want Ruth or any African-American touching their baby. Trouble arises when the baby goes into cardiac distress whilst Ruth is alone in the nursery and she doesn’t know whether to intervene or not, knowing the consequences of both if she does or doesn’t. She performs CPR and is charged with a serious crime. The story then puts Ruth in court, fighting against the supremacists for her freedom, whilst she struggles to keep life for her own family as normal as possible. Good Reads member vote it number 2 in the top 200 books released in October. launched her Caroline Azzi Fashion Label, a contemporary line of jewellery, accessories, beach & winter wear.

Tell us where your idea of creating your own label “Caroline Azzi” came from?

My first label Like A Queen has been very successful but I thought it was time to look forward to a new direction with perspective to grow and become a global brand. You always have to renew yourself and look forward to new horizons, coming up with new designs and innovating ideas, always improving the quality and the finishes. Starting something new is always exciting, you never know where it is going to lead you and how far you are going to get. I am sure that if you put all your heart, a lot of hard work, talent and creativity in a

project it should lead basically anywhere you want to go. The name came naturally, what better name than my own to sign my designs!

Tell us more about your new line of products and the process of creating them?

For the summer, I came out with a creative line of colourful boho silk and cotton dresses, exclusive jewellery and accessories. For the winter, I have designed rich jackets with fur necklines, ponchos, gloves and all sorts of accessories. All the designs are outstanding, easy to wear and very comfortable. All the pieces are unique or designed in limited edition. The jewellery is handmade one by one in my workshop in Marbella. The clothes are produced in Spain with attention to detail and great finishes. You can find within the line; exclusive necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, beach wear, dresses, winter coats, ponchos, scarves and all sorts of accessories. The creative process works this way: I come out with the concept of the new collection. I search for materials and ideas of designs, I decide what kind of trend I want to set and design colourful products and elegant pieces that will be useful. My goal is to inspire my customers a way of living and inspire them to live an exciting lifestyle. When a woman buys a piece of clothing she really likes, she will create a special occasion to wear it. This is what I want, I want to inspire my customers a way of living, I want them to feel elegant, sexy, free, secure, powerful and happy.

Where does your inspiration come from?

My father is Italian and my mum is French. I have always been surrounded by art and culture. I have studied Art, History of Art & Architecture and also practiced many disciplines like painting, sculpture, interior design and architecture. Throughout learning so many techniques you generally come out with a knowledge large enough to be able to create anything you want by yourself and apply it to any field. In the Academies I have been studying, my teachers have always helped me to develop my talents and my creativity. They also taught me for a design to be successful you have to make sure its function will be useful and bring to the user all that they expect and need. That is the balance between art and design. Creating something beautiful and useful. This is when you know your design is a success. One of my biggest passion is to travel and this is where I find most of my inspiration. I always have been inspired by nature, the fauna and flora of tropical countries, plants and their graphical specifications that I have included in my production. Getting to know new cultures, new places, seeing landscapes and tropical plants that you didn’t know even existed really inspires you.

How do you feel after your first season of the label?

Everything went so fast. I was not expecting to have so much success on my first year. I have received surpise after surpise. Firstly, I have been contacted by a Norwegean Airline Company that have offered me an exclusive interview in their onboard magazine, and my ad and logo have been traveling all summer around the world. From there I have been contacted by many people from different countries with proposal of distribution of my products and have received phone calls from various brands that asked me to use my designs in their product campaigns. I have also been contacted by Spanish National magazines to style celebrities for front covers. I am also involved in creating fashion editorials for magazines and collaborate in many creative photographic productions. I also want to give a special thanks to Marbella Rocks and all the magazines that have been supporting me this Summer and to all the members of my team, very talented people I have found to work with, photographers, models, make-up artists, video artists, without them it wouldn’t have been such a great success!

What do you think has been the key to your success?

The products are innovative and very exclusive, full of colours and richness of materials. All the elements are balanced, arranged with taste and used with elegance. The creative aspect of the designs are also very important. People get excited to find things they have never seen before and generally can’t wait to wear them! Of course nothing can happen without hard work and a lot of dedication.

Why did you choose Marbella to live?

Marbella is a great place to live. It has everything you need to be happy, great weather, a Cosmopolitan community of people, a splendid and inspiring nature.

And all that in Europe! Of course the best is to travel a lot to be able to expand and open in new markets.

Where can we purchase Caroline Azzi Products & Designs?

I have many selling points in Marbella, on the French Riviera, in London and in Thailand (check out shop list on my website). I also have opened a shop online where you can find many of my products, www.carolineazzi.com. If you subscribe to the page, you will receive special discounts and offers, so don’t hesitate! I also suggest people to call me and come to visit my private showroom where I will show them all my latest creations.

Dolph Lundgren gives Marbella Rocks the inside track on how he shot to fame and how he has retained his reputation as a Hollywood action star. Words by: Annabel Milnes Smith

I

t was in 2007 that I first met Dolph and interviewed him. I remember that time vividly. As he approached, the sun seemed to disappear and with it went my resolve. However Dolph could not have been more of a gentle giant with the most drooling American accent; enough to melt the heart of any young ‘gal’, he met. Therefore I was delighted when I was given the opportunity once again to catch up with him whilst he was in LA but sadly this time over the phone. However once again he could not have been more charming or endearing and since the last time we spoke he has starred in an impressive list of 40 further movies. Of course, Dolph’s most famous role was the Russian killer boxer in Rocky IV playing opposite the great movie man himself Sylvester Stallone. Indeed Sylvester has been integral over the years in burgeoning his career. Dolph, 58, still continues to remain at the peak of his profession not only as an actor but also as a director, screenwriter and producer, although as a child his dream was to become a rock star – a far cry from where he is today. Although Dolph is world renowned, I wanted to firstly refresh our readers on Dolph’s past history and then to his outstanding achievements to date.

please tell me about your aspiration to become a rock star?

“Every kid wants to become one. I played the drums in high school for four or five years in various bands and then I revived my drumming skills in 2009 about ten years ago when I directed, wrote and was the lead role in a movie called ‘Command Performance’, where I used my drumming skills on screen. The story was inspired by a concert Madonna did for Russian President Vladimir Putin. The movie also marked my daughter Ida’s screen début. Drumming has always been a part of my life”. However Swedish-born Dolph’s main aim in his early years was not to become a musician but a chemical engineer. An unusual choice. “My Dad was an electrical engineer and my older brother was a chemical engineer. Initially I was inclined to be a Doctor and go to medical school but I had to wait a year so decided to follow my family and study chemical engineering”.

28 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 25

You hold the rank of 3rd Dan black belt in Kyokushin Karate and you were European champion in 1980 and 1981. Why did you decide on such a dramatic career change as an actor and not continue down that path?

“Karate was a sport I did on the side but my key job was engineering. I received a scholarship from Sydney Australia University and then I gained a scholarship at the prestigious school of Maytee in Boston.”

You obviously loved learning and attended many universities.

“I suppose I had the inclination. It was easy for me and it was a great way to get sponsorships abroad, as I always wanted to travel, especially to the United States. Basically it was a way to get free tickets to go places!”

What was the catalyst that drew you to New York and catapulted you into the acting world?

“It had to be Grace Jones. I met her in Australia whilst studying there, I became her bodyguard and we had a relationship for four years. As she lived in New York, that is where I spent the next six months, when I had actually planned to study chemical engineering in Boston”.

What was she really like to live with?

“It was colourful, let’s put it that way. Everyday was a new challenge. We had a very tumultuous kind of relationship. It was wonderful at the time and she was a very interesting fun lady. I learnt a lot from her; professionally, as well.”

How and when did you first become involved in acting?

“It was when I was modeling in the USA to get a work visa and that is when I started studying acting. There was something about it, going through a variety of experiences and emotions which really appealed to me. All I wanted to do was act. It never occurred to me I would eventually become a Hollywood action star”.

How did you get your first break?

“It was small really. There was the Bond Movie ‘A View to a Kill’ being shot in France and Roger Moore was playing Bond and Grace was playing a role. I was there at the time and was told by the Director they needed someone to point a gun at Christopher Walken and be a bad guy. I was chosen. It was all of ten seconds! After that I went for a ‘cattle call’; that’s like a big casting call in New York for a boxing movie - Rocky IV. However I was turned down because of being too tall. I managed to find someone who knew Stallone and sent them a picture. Six months later they approached me having seen it and after 6 months I finally

got the part as the imposing Russian boxer Ivan Drago." From that moment on Dolph was rocketed to the star status he still retains today, having starred in 67 roles to date and having just signed up to star as the lead villain in US series Arrow.

Which roles would you say were the most challenging?

“That is quite difficult to answer as they are all challenging in different ways. Obviously the one that stands out is Rocky IV because it was my first movie as I had not been in front of a camera before. There was a lot of pressure on me as it was a big budget movie and I was the opponent sparring against Sylvester Stallone. Every Rocky movie is all about the opponents. It was a memorable experience. The other film was The Expendables which I starred in five years ago. It was challenging as I was returning to the big screen, having acted in direct-to-video films since 1995. I played a volatile, angry, substance abuser and frightening character Gunner Jensen. It was quite emotional. Although he is a fighter it was not like the other action hero movies that I had acted in, quite the opposite. The third film was the first one I directed called ‘The Defender’. That was really tough because the first time you direct a movie, especially if you are an actor, you have the producers and the bar company to deal with. They were all at each other and had to be replaced. However it went really well and I remember one moment that I was so tired that I fell asleep whilst talking to one of the crew!”

Have any of your roles affected you emotionally?

“All of them. The more roles you play emanate from where you are in your life at that time, from playing an innocent kickboxer from Russia to my role in The Expendables starring as a crazy drunk, drug-taking tough guy. Recently I did a movie called Kindergarten Cop 2 which was the one Arnold Schwarzenegger did 25 years ago and working alongside a bunch of six year old kids. Those experiences have had an influence on the person I am today. I think they all effect you to some degree”.

What was it like starring alongside children?

“Well I have children but as everyone says do not work with children or animals, because they always steal the show and drive you nuts. The kids were very sweet and there was also a pig and a hamster on set. The kids were scared of me at the beginning because I was a teacher and an FBI agent dressed as a kindergarten cop, but after a week or so they started to warm to me and took to me as their teacher and role model. It was touching when I had to leave. I thought maybe I will see these kids five or ten years from now and they will be grown-ups and have these wonderful memories. That means a lot to me”.

Do you do your own stunts?

“I do as many of them that I am allowed to do. Some of them are very dangerous like stunts involving fire and some high-speed driving. I try to do enough where you can see it is me and not a stunt double”.

Have you had any hair-raising moments throughout your career either in front of the screen or behind it?

“Plenty behind it”, he replied with a wicked laugh. “However what happened back in the eighties was

completely different on film sets. There were a few fatal accidents, like one guy being killed with a blank bullet and another one killed by a chopper. Now it is much safer, but at that time I did hair-raising stunts such as jumping from a four-storey window onto a platform below with no safety harness. It was crazy. Another time when I was working in Africa there were hyenas that were not properly trained and bit me. Another one was when I was in a motorcycle side car and had to jump onto a truck, again with no safety harness. I certainly would not do those types of stunts today.”

Have you been nominated or won any awards?

“Yes, but not that many. I received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Taormina Film Festival, The Fantastic Lantern Award at the Malaga International Week of Fantastic Cinema, and the Marshall Trophy for best actor in Rocky IV including the fact that Rocky IV made more money than any other movie – a Guinness World Record. The majority of them have not been for my acting, directing and producing”.

One of your first roles apart from Rocky IV was starring as He-Man in Masters of the Universe as a hero rather than a villain playing a toy. That must have been quite an unusual experience…to put it mildly?

“Playing a toy back in those days was really strange. It felt like a career ender. However now everyone is employing actors to play superheroes, cartoon characters, toys, like the big Spielberg movie ‘The Transformers’. Yes it was tough for me at first as I always played bad guys and then had to play an American hero. It put me under a lot of pressure as it was a complete character role change. I remember going to Macey’s in New York with my daughter Corinne and there were all these kids going mad over the He-Man store. I did feel like it was surreal playing a toy in a movie”.

With another film ‘Universal Soldier’ where you played alongside another action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme, I gather you experienced some problems at first with some of the fight scenes?

“Yes it was when I was on set for the first scene in Vietnam when I was playing this crazy sergeant who is about to shoot these kids and he had to kick the gun out of my hand. He kicked me rather too hard. We had to do the scene again. In between takes my British karate instructor Brian Fitkin came running up to me and told me to knock out JC Van Damme ‘if he did that again’. Jean-Claude’s eyes widened on hearing this. When he made the next kick it was a mere tap!” Indeed at the Cannes Film Festival 1992 they repeated this fight and security was brought in to break it up as they thought it was genuine. It was not – just a great publicity stunt to promote the film!

You also directed and starred in ‘Icarus’. That must have been difficult taking on both roles?

“Yes as it was a script that had to be rewritten from scratch. We had to change the writer to get the financing. They were not happy with the rewrite, the budget got cut and I had some issues with the producers, as I was also starring in the film. I was not really savvy enough in those days to deal with politics over a film and its production. I had some run-ins that should not have happened. Basically it was a difficult film which finally ended being re-cut by

ISSUE 25 | MARBELLAROCKS

features the producers. I was not happy with it. However it taught me a good lesson. After that film I became involved in The Expendables franchise and decided if I ever directed again that I have would to direct and also produce so that I have some power as to how the film is being financed and coordinated”.

In the Expendables you starred with Sylvester Stallone. What was it like acting alongside him again?

“It was very interesting because we worked together thirty years ago on the first movie ‘Rocky IV’ when he was the Director and Producer when he was a big movie star and I was a kid from Sweden. I regarded him as a role model. We became friends on some level especially, as we were sparring together for 6 months. When you hit each other you react to them in a slightly different way than just talking. I did not think we would work with each other again but then he called me in 2009 and asked me to pick up a script which he was directing – The Expendables. I read the script and thought it was great especially as we were friends, albeit on a different professional level. It was a really nice feeling knowing that we had regained our friendship and I was so happy to star in it. I am also delighted that he has now been nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor in Creed where he plays Rocky Balboa again”.

When you are not on set how do you spend your time?

“Sleeping”, he jokingly replies. “Also travelling to some far away locations or training but principally spending time with my two daughters who live in Europe. One is in Sweden in a boarding school and the other is in Marbella. They both grew up in Marbella and I still have a house there. I try to fly them over here or go there as soon as I get a break. They are my main priority when I am not working”.

How many hours do you train per week?

“It depends a lot on the shooting schedule or when I manage to take a week off, I train five days a week. Two or three days with weights mixed with martial arts, one day is swimming and the fifth day would be martial arts training out with Howard King who has trained with me over the years. I try to stay on schedule but sometimes because of my work commitments it may come down to three days a week working out for an hour a half”. Indeed Stallone has had a prolonged impact on his fitness regime and his diet, ensuring that he eats 5 or 6 smaller meals a day with a substantial higher percentage of protein.

Can you give our readers any inside tips on how to stay fit?

“It takes some commitment because the majority of us live a very subterranean lifestyle. We are like a first or second generation who can have as much food as we want. My parents grew up in the depression where many people starved to death. Nowadays you have to watch what you eat and be a little restrictive. Diets do not work - they are basically something you do for a short period of time. Your diet is more like a lifestyle rather than abstaining from something you eat for a few weeks. However one point I would like to make is anything is better than nothing. For instance, if you have not got time or are tired, just do push-ups or go for a walk. What happens is your body has an incredible way of adjusting. If you go out for a walk for ten minutes one day, automatically, for most people, the next time they will want to go for a little bit longer maybe for

32 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 25

fifteen minutes. That is how our bodies work. Even those who only do a small amount of exercise can always build it up. I suggest to your readers don’t put up huge unrealistic goals that you cannot reach and afterwards feel bad about not achieving them”.

Dolph bought a house in Marbella in 1998. What first attracted you to the Costa del Sol?

“My ex-wife grew up there and when we got married in 1984 we went on our honeymoon to Marrakech for a week, then Marbella for a week, this was meant to be followed by two weeks in La Rioja – the wine region. However when we came to Marbella and stayed at the Marbella Club, we ended up staying there for the rest of our honeymoon as there is something so special about it, the people and the weather. We both just loved it and started renting different houses there and 14 years later we bought a house. We had a daughter by then, followed by a second one. I lived in Marbella until 2010”.

What are your favourite places in Marbella?

“I like Orange Square in the Old Town and the Marbella Club especially with their Sunday buffet down by the pool. I always take my kids there when I come back. It always brings back many happy memories for me. I also love the beaches as I go biking and training down there. Marbella is one of my favourite places, even more so than the South of France or the Italian Riviera”.

Are you planning on coming back soon?

“Hopefully very soon as I have friends there but whilst I was living there my career went down. Therefore when Sly called me in 2009 to star in The Expendables I realised I had to spend more time in Los Angeles which is where I am now”.

There have been many comparisons over California to the Costa del Sol. Would you agree?

“Yes the climate is very similar. The only difference with Los Angeles is that it is much hotter and drier than Marbella because of its micro-climate. Also to some extent in lifestyle. If you move away from Los Angeles up to Santa Barbara the architecture is Spanish and people speak Spanish”.

On a final note what projects have you got in the pipeline?

“Apart from acting, I have two future projects which I am producing and directing; one of which I am acting in”.

Which ones?

“One film called ‘Wanted Man’ being filmed in Mexico either in the summer or the fall. I am starring in that one. The other is called ‘Nordic Lights’ which is a World War 1 thriller filmed in Sweden. I like that project enormously because it is set in my own country, especially as 90% of my movies have been produced from America and nothing in Sweden. I am hoping that once it is completed, it will put Sweden on the map for future movies to be filmed there”. On finishing this interview I believe, without a shadow of a doubt Dolph will, in the very near future, receive not only a well-deserved coveted Oscar for either his acting, producing, screenwriting or directing skills but will also join the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Watch this space - remember you heard it first from Marbella Rocks!

EL CAMINITO DEL REY Inland, just an hour’s drive, is El Caminito del Rey (The King's little pathway), an elevated trail built for workers at the hydro-electric plant in 1905 which became known by its present name when King Alfonso XIII crossed the walkway in 1921. Situated near the glorious azure lakes of El Chorro and finally renovated in 2015 it is now considered totally safe for visitors but you will still need a strong head for heights. Prior to be being repaired the 1 metre wide walkway rose over 100 metres above the river below and was a major draw for thrill seekers. The crumbling and sometimes non-existent concrete path with little or no safety barrier ran for over 3 km and claimed the lives of six people up to 2013.

MOUNT HUASHAN When it comes to extremes, China probably has the most. Mount Huashan is home to an even more white-knuckle version of El Caminito del Rey – ‘The Chang Kong Cliff Road’. Believed to have been built in the 13th century by monks seeking immortals who were thought to dwell in the mountains. The 30cm wide walkway (some sections are cut into the rock face) is constructed of wooden planks, rustically nailed together and positioned on a series of iron pegs driven into the vertical cliff face thousands of metres above the ground. Many thrill seekers, wanting to see the sunrise atop the mountain, choose to make the perilous journey at night (a plus is you can’t see the drop). Once started, a traveller must continue to the end because the narrowness of the path prohibits two-way traffic.

The Cliffs of Moher run for over 8 km on the south-western edge of County Clare and are one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland, having topped the list in 2006 by drawing almost one million visitors. At over 200 metres of sheer rock they are also one of the most dangerous. The cliffs are a mecca for extreme (crazy) mountain bikers who traverse the narrow strip of uneven damp and moss covered pathways above the sharp rocks and crashing Atlantic below.

Over 500 million litres of water a minute cascade over the 1700 metre wide and 100 metre high falls, causing a deafening roar of crashing water and glorious rainbow spray giving rise to it being known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke that Thunders). The naturally formed plunge pool is only usable when the water levels are low enough to not immediately be dragged over the edge by the current. Many visitors perch on or over the precipice where there is nothing but an underwater stone formation stopping you from certain death.

Transformations!” W ith it being October already and summer 2016 firmly in the past; the shops are already littered with dodgy plastic ´Scream´ masks and black bin bag like ´Dracula Capes.´ Yes, it is officially Winter and before we get ahead of ourselves and look towards another Christmas, first we have the annual tradition of Halloween! And so, this month, to get into the festive spirit, I have decided to show you guys some “Scarily good celebrity transformations.” Normally my fitness articles are for and about women and I guess this edition is no different and firmly designed for you ladies! With a huge emphasis on celebrity fitness, the ´A´ Listers taking care of their bodies and having to look good at all times, (*cue Selfie) it was hard to choose just one main celebrity transformation. However, being the firm ´Belieber´ that I am, I think it is important that you always give the customer what they want…. No it´s not Justin Bieber topless, it´s something much, much better than that…I am giving you ladies a real treat by showing you how ´A´ List Actor, star of the new “Baywatch” film and all round hunk, Zac Efron transformed from a slim defined teen heartthrob into a muscular masterpiece.

That´s a HELL of a transformation!

HEALTH & FITNESS So, for any of you who have actually made it this far, past the topless photos of Zac Efron, you may be interested in how Zac got his great new physique. Having always been fit and athletic looking, even as recently as last year in the Bad Neighbours movies; the shape Zac Efron has brought to our screens is a whole new level. His physique would rival many Mens Physique Competitors or Professional Athletes. Efrons Personal Trainer, worked with him for 12 weeks prior to the filming of Baywatch and said that Zac Efron got down to 5% Body Fat in that time frame but also put on a solid 5kg of muscle. How? Apparently heavy lifting and lots of supersets. A super set is doubling up on exercises, hitting one straight after another. Double the workload and supersets can increase the Lactic Acid build up, which helps boost GH (growth hormone), which is important in muscle growth. In addition, if you train cleverly, you can combine certain exercises, normally with the same body part (but doesn’t have to be) to try and increase muscle fibre activation. Choosing exercises that are performed back to back basically puts our bodies under more stress which can lead to increased and faster muscle production.

Jonah

Hill Healthy diet and body weight exercises and cardio lead to this BLOODY brilliant transformation.

Charlotte

Crosby This Geordie Reality TV star lost a whopping 19kg through HIIT and laying off the drinking! What a BOOtiful transformation!

Zac

Efron´s Workout Routine Day 1 – BACK AND BICEPS Day 2 – LEGS Day 3 – CHEST, SHOULDERS AND ARMS (Abs every other day) There you have it, how Zac Efron transformed himself from pin up-scrawny teen to buff male muscle god in 12 short weeks. There was a day rest between each of the above workout days, which always include some cardio based activities and abs. The 3 days that he did train, Zac Efron was really pushed to the limit in heavy lifting and multiple sets, each day really killing the body part at hand. If your training has gone flat or you have reached a plateau, why not try this 3 day split with some super sets of your own and see the results. I couldn’t just leave you there, so I have complied my next 4 best “Scarily Good Celebrity Transformations” for you to ogle at! All of which have taken place this year, leaving you with my top 5 altogether.

Vicky

Pattison Geordie number 2 on the list, there must be something in the water! Juice detoxes and hard gym workouts were behind this SPOOKtacular transformation.

Zach

Galifianakis Hangover star Zach swore that the reason he now looks a GHOST of his former self is due to cardio and giving up the booze!

YOUR DENTIST

ROCKS In these days of increased awareness to oral health, cosmetic dentistry, oral cancer, teeth whitening, white fillings and missing teeth, the visit to the dentist is fast becoming an essential function!

Dr Eugene Marais has been involved in implant dentistry since 1994 and is President of the British Academy of Dental Implantology. He gained his knowledge at the Misch Implant Institute in Michigan and Pennsylvania, completing both the surgical and prosthodontic programmes. In 2008 the International Congress of Oral Implantology awarded him both Fellowship and then its highest status, Diplomate. To date, he has placed more than 6500 implants, performed several hundred sinus elevations and most other dental implant procedures. He has also spoken at many international implant symposia reflecting his expertise in this field.

It is indeed a multifunctional role that the dentist and his team fulfills, definitely not only a "drilling and filling" job. Older adults squirm when they think back to their childhood days visiting the school dentist, and the pain they had to endure with each visit! As our dental well being is important and the social media, newspapers and TV are constantly showing toothpaste, denture fixative solutions and low calorie foods there is a distinct connection with our relationship to our dentist and our health. In general we are also more concerned about preservation, rather than reparation, which could be a lot more arduous and costly than maintaining what we have. The result is that visits to the oral hygienist have been on the increase and dental procedures like fillings and root canal treatments decreasing! The dentist's role in health screening, like in oral health and cancer screening, periodontal disease screening, diet advice and sugar control, as well as smoking cessation, makes it clear that your relationship with your dentist is an important aspect of your life. Aside from the screening and advice there is also the maintenance and preventative aspects relating to our dental care. Oral health is one unsung aspect of dentistry which never gets a lot of publicity and patients don't realise it's all part and parcel of the general dental check up that the dentist advises. During the "check up" appointment not only are the teeth are looked at, but the patient as a whole is assessed. The dentist investigates the extra oral parts of the face, feeling for the presence of glands, which may indicate an underlying infection, and also the intra oral parts, which includes the soft tissues of the palate,

tongue, throat and floor of the mouth. This may alert the dentist to that fact that there may be oral cancer present, gum disease or decay. A BPE or periodontal evaluation is then done to assess the gums and presence of gum disease. Another important fact to bear in mind is that many systemic, or serious diseases in the body, has tell-tale signs which can be picked up in the soft tissues of the mouth. This information is gathered and stored and used to monitor the patients oral health and gum status. Obesity in the UK is fast becoming a big strain on the NHS, not only from treating diet related sicknesses like diabetes, but also from implementing diet prescriptions and medicines to help with diet control. Here the dentist plays an important role in assessing sugar intake and diet on each individual patient, makes recommendations on decreasing it and also points out the risks and complications related to excess sugar and obesity. It's only with regular check ups that sugar intake can be monitored. Another aspect to dentistry that we don't always think about is smoking cessation. Smokers always worry about the nicotine stains on their teeth, not realising their lungs look the same. Your medical history would normally reveal that you smoke, and it's up to your dentist to guide you to a decision to quit. Once again it's only with regular visits that a smoking cessation programme can be put into action and your dentist can help to motivate you quit. So with all this background knowledge to hand before your dentist even starts any treatment, it's gives you comfort in the fact that even though your mouth is the focal point of your check up, your dentist is concerned about your whole body and the way in which it relates to your mouth. So when we take a look at how far the dentist's knowledge stretches, some more amazing facts about your dentist come to light. The days of surgical face lifts and major cosmetic surgical procedures are numbered, where adult men and women of all age groups are looking at dental treatment options to enhance their facial esthetics. In a recent UK survey, people when given the choice would rather enhance their smile and facial esthetics, than spend it on cosmetic surgery on other parts of the body. This stems from the fact that dental procedures are becoming more predictable and less invasive than other procedures. Everyone knows about teeth whitening procedures and

every dental surgery and beauty salon offers teeth whitening as a loss leader to build up their patient base. Little do our potential clients really know about teeth whitening and the effects of whitening agent on the pH of the mouth, which in turn can cause sensitivity and decay. Beauty salons offer quick solutions to their clients, who are only to happy to pay a small fee for a material that could damage their oral cavity and causes decay and sensitivity. Teeth whitening has become a real treatment option with research and development within the procedure taken to high levels, even for severe cases of tetracycline staining, where resin infiltration can be done to lighten lines on teeth that could not be done before. There are also whitening materials around now which control the oral pH, maintaining a neutral balance which reduces sensitivity and stabilises exposed roots, protecting them from decay. This allows the dentIst to prescribe a long term course in teeth whitening knowing that the patient will have a predictable outcome, without any fear of sensitivity or risk of decay. Your dentist should provide you with the name of materials they use for your whitening procedure and be able to assure you that it is safe to use! Adult orthodontics also feature high on the cosmetic dental list. As kids we all remember the ghastly bits about braces, like the blocky uncomfortable removable appliances we were forced to wear (and the extraction of one or several teeth to make way for others!) When we look back and see the failure of all those attempts, it does conjure up fear and unpleasant ideas in our minds, which often keep fallacies alive. However treatment modes and times have changed radically over the last decade or two, making adult orthodontics, and for that matter orthodontics for everyone, a lot easier, less uncomfortable and visible, and predictable! Companies like Invisalign, Clearstep, 6 month Smiles, etc, have revolutionised orthodontics for dentists and patients alike, and have cleared up the fears we've always had about orthodontic treatment. The main worries are treatment times and the esthetic look of the braces. Once the dentist has made the correct diagnosis and the patient has decided upon the method, excluding retention - treatment can be done within 6 months, and often in cases where prior orthodontic treatment was carried out, even shorter periods. It is important to know that long term retention is important after initial orthodontics to ensure relapse doesn't occur. As far as the looks of braces is concerned, another myth can be debunked, because braces like Invisalign are clear, and cannot be seen. Even fixed brackets, wires and elastics

HEALTH & FITNESS

are clear which makes them fairly inconspicuous and a lot more socially acceptable. Over the last three years adult orthodontics cases have doubled each year as patients are keen to rectify problems created by lack of, or incomplete children's orthodontics. Next on the list of cosmetic dentistry options is the replacement of amalgam fillings with natural tooth coloured restorations. We've all had the nasty amalgam fillings which have unfortunately been done over decades! Thankfully they've been banned in certain countries, but unfortunately their legacy lives on in our mouths! There are several options available to the dentist to change these fillings to a more natural looking one. The option of using a composite restoration, which is made of a microfilled resin which is light cured, has been the choice of many a dentist. These have truly been lifesavers, but only in the right situations. The size, depth and proximity of the cavity really does dictate if a composite restoration can be done. If it is too deep it can cause sensitivity on the tooth, which may or may not disappear, in which case a root canal therapy may be required. If the cavity is between two teeth, it may be difficult to achieve, with the effect that food will always get trapped between the teeth when eating. A tooth coloured composite filling really should only be done in single surface or small, shallow multi-surface cavities. Once the size of the cavity gets large and contact between teeth is broken, then your dentist needs to look at other options, like porcelain inlays. These are solid porcelain restorations, which are shaded to the natural colour of the tooth, and moulded to follow the contour and contacts between the teeth. This allows eating without food impaction and ease of cleaning, and of course they are very esthetic! Dental laboratories who make these inlays for dentists are normally certified to be able to do so, giving the patient piece of mind that their inlay would survive the tests that the mouth would put to it.

86 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 25

Dental Implantology also features high on the list of cosmetic treatments and affects adults of all ages. Starting with the older generation and specifically here where we are on the Costa Del Sol, the social aspect of living here and interacting is an important factor. Combined with the fact that statistically it's shown that we are all living longer it has become a necessity, and not a luxury, to have a good dentition. From a dietary point of view it is known that as we age and lose teeth we have to modify our diet to a softer more refined one, which in turns has a detrimental effect on our alimentary canal and digestive system. Also from a social point of view, single people may place more emphasis on a good healthy smile to find friends. Whilst dentures have been lifesavers for edentulous patients, implant retained fixed bridges have given these individuals a far healthier and more socially acceptable lifestyle. In the younger person the loss of a tooth can be traumatic, creating an often costly cosmetic nightmare. There are numerous treatment options when replacing a missing tooth and your dentist should discuss all the options with you before you decide on a solution. In older patients where the loss of all the teeth in an arch is becoming more common, systems have been designed to replace these failing teeth, sometimes within a day! Immediately the Arton dental implant comes to mind where the whole procedure is done within 24 hours. This includes the extraction of all the failing teeth in the jaw, placing a number of implants and providing a fixed bridge. This concept has changed the face of adult dentistry, improving the quality of life for many people affected by chewing and eating problems. Once again the value of oral health connected to health of the rest of the body is underpinned. I hope you enjoyed this month´s column – look forward to talking to you again soon.

“Thanks to my chain of Size Zero weight loss salons I can perfectly combine two passions: doing business and helping people!’’ From model to reality star to successful franchise entrepreneur. Tamara Elbaz (34) does it all. Her newest adventure started in 2014; running Size Zero weight loss salons. Just like with her previous businesses, Tamara has turned this mission into a success too. Within two years, the single salon grew into a chain of 40 establishments. She opened the first international establishment in the gorgeous Marbella. We talked to the busy bee about Size Zero, her career plans and her new life in Belgium.

Losing weight with

SIZE ZERO

“I never expected that Size Zero would grow this fast,” says Tamara excitedly. The lady in question is very busy, but she loves talking about her latest adventure. A real entrepreneur, we can surely call Tamara that. She ran her own PR-events and model agency at a very young age. Tamara: “In my student days I was the organiser of a car rally for years, with all the sponsor revenues going to orphanages in Romania. Because of this rally, I have gained a lot of contacts with just about every press agency, so starting a PR company was not such a hard step”. In this time, Tamara appeared in various RTL5 programmes. Everyone in the Netherlands got to know the ambitious It-girl. The great start of her current business Size Zero is partly thanks to her fame. Tamara: ‘’In 2014 I was approached by the engineers of an Italian factory, and they asked me to give the Easy Shape Trainer a try. After two treatments I could throw out my old books! Then I instantly realised that this could be the ideal solution for people with a problematic figure. It almost went without saying that I had to develop this concept further. Last year I started my own salon in Rotterdam and within two weeks every

day was completely booked. The locations Amsterdam, The Hague and Badhoevedorp followed in ‘’no time’’, and then we started 35 more franchise establishments, as well as five of my own salons. These are spread across the Netherlands, and this summer we are opening the first international Size Zero, in Marbella!’’. Size Zero has become a big success, but how does it actually work? ‘’Size Zero works with the Size Zero Easy ShapeTrainer’’, Tamara explains. “This machine handles specific problematic areas effectively and with focus. Advice for a personal programme is established with a scan for muscle mass, fat and moisture. We recommend participants to undergo the treatment for at least 4 weeks, 2 times a week. This way they get the best results. There are frequent measurements, so that the progress becomes clearly visible. The Easy Shape Trainer is for everyone! From new moms to future brides, and men and women with larger sizes. Most users slim down 8 to 28 cm right after the first treatment (this takes between 30 and 55 minutes), without physical effort. The result? A beautiful, tight and radiant body!” A well-shaped body should have a smooth face and single chin. That is why the weight loss chain introduced Facial last August. Tamara: “The same Easy Shape Trainer device that makes the body slimmer and tighter in no time, is now applicable as Facial. The stubborn double-chin and wrinkles are handled thanks to the so-called Face Pillow. After one painless treatment there is already a difference of at least 3 cm. The slack skin under

the chin disappears and the contours of the face come back”. To give her customers extra service, Tamara also will also introduce food supplements, a protein diet and a nutrition plan this year. “It’s about the full picture! I want to offer everyone the best possible help with achieving his/her target weight!’’ It may seem like success has just fallen into Tamara’s lap, but that is very far from the truth. Running and maintaining so many (franchise) businesses is a lot of work. “Sometimes I work such long days, that my boyfriend Hans almost forgets what I look like! Luckily he’s also subscribed to all my social media channels”, the business woman jokes. Tamara likes letting her fans and followers see some parts of her private life. “I took my two sweet dogs and moved from Amsterdam to Brasschaat for love. Sometimes it’s a sacrifice to spend so little time at home, but there are great things planned: aside from the launch of new products and nutrition plans, we are moving Size Zero to a new main office in Rotterdam, and we’ll also keep expanding. Hans and I are also finally moving into our dream house. Now we just have to see if we can take the time to move all of our stuff!” Size Zero is always looking for enthusiastic franchisees! La Fiorentina is owned and owned and run by the charming Brigitte Pagini, who we think is a ringer for actress Sophia Loren. It´s a family run business and is always busy which is a great sign in this era of easy come, easy go restaurants. As well as always being bustling and full of atmosphere, La Fiorentina has a wide range of entertainment so you could be pleasantly surprised when you pay a visit and get serenaded by a local singer or get to enjoy a live band or entertainment night. The formidable Mel Willliams who is celebrating 40 years on the coast with a Cudeca

charity concert at Puente Romano, performs regularly at La Fiorentina. Plus the stunning Maja Swarovski is a regular here alongside Cliff Richard and the late Cilla Black was a huge fan of the restaurant. La Fiorentina also regularly holds fashion shows here on the coast from some of the finest local boutiques. There is soon to be an event for The Frock Exchange so keep an eye out for dates in our calendar. Food, wine and shopping… a woman´s dream. Plus every Thursday is Ladies Lunch where a whole host of women gather and regular exhibits are brought in as well as different theme days held.

However, the main reason La Fiorentina has endured the test of time is because it serves some of the best pizza and pasta dishes around. The menu is extensive and sauces can be combined with different types of pasta. Try the Spaghetti a la Brigitte (which comes with king prawns, garlic and cherry tomatoes), Cannelloni or the Lasagna or Cheese-Filled Ravioli is fantastic. All the pasta dishes are fresh and made on site. If you´re a meat lover, we´d highly recommend trying the Chicken or Veal Milanese. La Fiorentina also has a fantastic selection of desserts made by their head chef. We´d recommend the Cheesecake or Tiramisu – fresh creamy desserts that entice customers back again and again. Prices are also very reasonable at La Fiorentina, with a meal for two including starter, main course, dessert and a bottle of wine, for around €65. Affordable, fine dining – need we say more.

La Fiorentina is open for business everyday (except Tuesdays) from 12 to 4pm for lunch and 6pm till late for dinner. For reservations please call: +34 952 885 765 or email: info@lafiorentina.com.es

You could be in a risk taking mood this month, Aries. No matter what you won’t be deterred when it comes to going after what you want - or what you believe should be yours. You could be your own agent for long overdue change now. Ruthlessly weeding out what no longer works for you whether this includes those fashion faux pas in your closet, that relationship that just sucks the life force from you, that job that is taking you nowhere fast or those out-moded thoughts. All this takes place because of your desire to have exactly what you want - and that begins with getting rid of what you don’t. Take that risk that if you have a de-clutter, that empty space in your life will be filled by something so much better. Show the world you are no longer prepared to compromise on the unhappiness just settling for less gets you.

Wild hearts - run free! The depth of your feelings may surprise you and all this pent-up passion needs to be shared, Taurus. Is there a current object of your desire? The ideal (or just the Mr. or Mrs. Right Now) person could cross your path this month and if so, you could fall fast. Watch out for someone from overseas or with foreign connections who just comes across as larger than life on some level. You could encounter this person when out and about or where you would least expect love to be lurking. You heart is set for an adventure and all you can do is tag along. Others need to direct all that energy into work or a creative endeavour. Whatever you do, find an outlet for your passion now. However, if love proves not to be all you hoped for, nothing and no one is going to keep your heart on a leash right now.

120 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 25

Decision time around love and also your career could determine how the rest of the year – or even next year unfolds. If you’re feeling that things are just a little bit too vanilla for your taste, chances are you will attract something hotter this month - be it a job in fast company or that temperature raising romance you have been looking for. This may mean letting something go in order to follow where your heart now wants to take you. Alternatively you realise you have achieved your desires and all that remains is to commit to it. This present cycle is all about what makes you feel alive. That doesn’t mean you won’t or can’t make serious commitments. Living and living with passion is a serious business and requires serious commitment.

Time to entertain possibilities this month, Cancer. What do you believe it is possible for you to have, experience or achieve? Are you carrying around ideas in your head that the good stuff just happens to other people? If so, what do you believe makes them luckier or more entitled than you? Luck is a mindset as this month is set to show you. Love is what attracts love. Success attracts more of the same. Is it your mindset that is getting in the way as this month offers you a fresh start in a key area related to those dreams – and perhaps the very ones you believe you can’t attain. Change your thoughts around this – and you might just change what you’re attracting in kind. Try it and see for yourself the positive changes.

News could take you by surprise but then comes a bigger one. You realise this may be a blessing in disguise or contain hidden benefits. Although initially you may not get exactly the result you were after, closer examination may prove you have a better one. A new phase of living or even loving could open up for you now but like many blessings it may appear heavily disguised. Suspend judgement for the first part of the month as by the time it ends you may see things very differently. Likewise, love may be difficult to recognise at first. Good things come in plain brown paper wrapping this month and all that glitters may in fact be fool’s gold. Know the difference – or wait to discover it before making a choice.

News, messages, travel, business, flirtation and above all, ideas power you through the month. Do you feel like you are in two places at once? You may also feel there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done. Career opportunities may demand more of your time but your bank account increases along with this. Love needs a mental turn-on as well as a physical one now and if you are not getting that you may be happy to focus on work instead. Others may be pulled by a cosmic tractor beam into the orbit of a highly charismatic individual who offers that tempting combination of attraction infused with a little hint of danger. By all means take a walk on the wild side but don’t neglect the wonderful opportunities that exist right now to make long term headway towards career success.

You could just be flirting with everyone you meet this month, Libra. Or at the very least you are flirting with life as if it is a lover you want to win over. The power of persuasion and attraction is yours now and your words and ideas are set to not only impress but weave an unforgettable spell with everyone you encounter. After so much time out of the spotlight, you return to it filled with a new playfulness. Work this as it is powerful magic now. If you feel good things are coming your way you are right. Just the thoughts you send out there rebound and send you something back in kind. Flirt with that when it – or most likely they, arrive. Whatever form success takes, it probably won’t want to leave anyone so playful and in love with their own life now.

Have you met that new lover before? Someone could appear and you feel you have known them forever. Is this your ‘You complete me’ relationship? The past features somewhere in here. Perhaps you crossed paths with them in the past – or a past life. As your birthday approaches new beginnings appear especially when it comes to your income now, but you are all too aware of the past and the influence it has on the present. Allow the past to act as a lesson but understand it is your choices in the here and now which shape your future. There is no need to repeat the past and all you need to do is choose differently. Ensure any new lover or opportunity coming your way fits into the future you are creating for yourself this month.

Everything has its own timing. That’s why there are songs entitled ‘You can’t hurry love’ and annoying (particularly to Sagittarians) sayings such as ‘Everything comes to s/he who waits’. Seeing as I know the Sag philosophy includes ‘Instant gratification takes too long’ then telling you that something you have wanted for some time could finally occur now will probably only get the response of ‘About time!’ from you. However, if you are going to be honest – and you are probably one of the most honest signs out there, you know that if this had happened before, you probably weren’t quite ready for this level of love and/or success. But now you are. The universe may just reward you for patience and readiness – not to mention hard work. Timing is everything this month.

It may not be what you know so much as who you know this October. Friends, groups and professional contacts and associations feature. Whatever it is or whatever you want to achieve, then mind your existing circle to achieve it as someone you know – or they know, can put you in touch with who you need to speak to, or get you closer to what you want. Goals are always easier to achieve if we have a team so share them with those you feel will support you. Unusual people from diverse backgrounds could cross your path and could hold the key to your future. If you are offered an invitation accept it – especially if it involves joining a group or club. Other people bring you benefits now so get connected. Don´t hold yourself back from that.

Doors open – or remain closed as far as your career goes this month so pay close attention as to which. If nothing swings wide now – no matter how loudly or insistently you knock, then please consider whether or not this is the right door for you? Questions around your career path could surface. Is this the path you would have chosen for yourself or did you choose it to please someone else – a parent perhaps? If the door swings wide then you could be stepping through to a new level of recognition and success. Shifts in your social circle could also occur with you seeking out older or perhaps just wiser friends. You won’t be interested in anything or anyone superficial now. Get serious about the company you work for – and the company you keep now.

Step into a bolder, larger world. Or perhaps just a bolder, more adventurous version of you. There’s an element of the Phoenix about you now and you may literally be rising reborn from the ashes of something which can be anything from a past relationship, cycle or outdated image. Look, think and act different and let the world see this new you. Travel is highlighted this month as is encountering people from overseas, the law, the mass media, studying or anything to do with the outdoors or animals. If any of these cross your path they could be part of a new destiny unfolding for you. As it is you are unfolding those Phoenix-wings and taking flight – perhaps just rising from something that has been holding you back. Do not be your old self. This month demands you show the world what you are capable of becoming.

Each month Marbella Rocks will be quick firing questions at unsuspecting famous faces. This month, we’ve sprung it on Mia McKenna Bruce, the star of BBC series Tracy Beaker and Dumping Ground.

How did you break into TV? I started doing dance and I was scouted by an agent. After taking acting classes I auditioned for the role of Tee Taylor on Tracy Beaker and got it. What other shows have you appeared in? I´ve done quite a few others including Billy Elliot, EastEnders, Holby City and The 4th Kind. I also play Tee in Dumping Ground. What´s your dream job? I would love to do a major Hollywood blockbuster – one of the Marvel Comics films would be amazing. Now to the silly stuff? What´s your nickname? Fluff or Brucey (Bonus!)

Ideal celebrity dinner party guests? Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Whitney Housten, Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. If you had to be an animal, what would you be? Spider Monkey or Koala although I held a Koala in Australia and it peed on me! Best advice ever given? Never give up and believe in yourself – both are clichés but they are so true. Best character trait? I am very caring.

What couldn´t you live without? Chicken nuggets. If you could only take three things to a desert island what would they be? My phone, a solar powered charger and chicken nuggets!

122 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 25

Worst habit? Shouting – I literally have no voice tempo awareness! Most embarrassing item in your wardrobe? A Thorpe Park poncho. What brings you to Marbella? I have been coming every summer for years – its our family holiday destination. Best thing about Marbella? Well for me its coming to see all the friends I have made here. Worst thing about Marbella? Going home!
