EDITOR’S NOTE W
elcome to the October Issue of Marbella Rocks where we bring the latest news, trends, features and interviews. This month we’ve caught up with ‘Playa in Marbella’ and ‘TOWIE’ star Elliott Wright who has finally found his Mrs Wright in Sadie Stuart. As well as the wedding, find out all about his dream turned reality Olivia’s la Cala, his impressive line-up of future TV appearances and what his daughter thinks about having a restaurant named after her. His son is not impressed! Elsewhere we catch up with Kym Rowlingson in our Rock Out Interview finding out about the hottest talent on the coast from shows including ‘X Factor’, ‘The Voice’ and ‘Pitch Battle’. Plus find out what it’s like working in the fast-paced environment of celebrity PR and Management. Reality TV aside, we also have a stunning fashion editorial called Lands of Inspiration by local designers Caroline Azzi and Jessica Dissinger. Trendswise we explore Red Alert in For Her, Breaking the Black Tie Rules in For Him (that’s half the fun isn’t it?) and all the current Celebrity Transformations in our 3 page cover feature. Our personal faves are Kim K’s white ice and Zayn Malik’s new shaved look. If you’re thinking about a winter makeover why don’t you head over to Golden Tarts in Puerto Banus and book an appointment with ‘Irish tart’ Emma for an image overhaul. Her debut column on page 56 showcases the celebs who have passed through GT this summer and having frequented the salon myself a few times already, the experience is definitely an eye opener (and I didn’t have a drop of cava!). And onto our Ultimate Gastronomy Guide. Each month it’s growing, thanks to all you readers that have recommended your favourite restaurants on the coast. Keep them coming in! Have a great month. Til next time,

FERGIE AND JOSH SPLIT Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie and her actor beau Josh Duhamel have separated after 8 years of marriage and 13 years together. The couple, who have 4-yearold son Axl together, released a joint statement revealing they had actually split several months ago. “With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,' they announced. The statement continues, “To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a
private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.” The couple began dating in 2004 after meeting when Fergie's band made a cameo in Josh's Las Vegas show. They got engaged in December 2007 and married in a star-studded ceremony in Malibu in January 2009. Axl was born in 2012. Last week Fergie was pictured in Rio Janeiro without her wedding band for the first time and similarly Josh had ditched wearing his while out and about in LA. There is no other people linked to the separation.
SELENA’S LIFE SAVING BFF Selena Gomez has undergone a life-saving kidney transplant after her best friend Francia Rasia donated her a kidney this summer. Selena, 25, has been suffering with Lupus since 2015, a disease that attacks the immune system and following kidney failure in May this year, doctors urged her to have the life-saving operation and the search was on for a matching doner. Now Selena owes more to her BFF than
she can ever repay - her life - as the organ transplant waiting list meant that a suitable kidney may not have been found until too late for the Disney star. Both women have now made a full recovery following the operation and Selena’s new kidney is said to be fully functional. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice,” Selena wrote on her Instagram. “I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much Francia.”
DIRTY DOG WAYNE BEGS FOR FORGIVENESS Wayne Rooney has been caught at it again. This time the ‘Shrek’ impersonator kissed and hugged a 29-year-old mother of one in a nightclub and was caught drink driving on the way back to her home before he was stopped by police. Oh dear. Colleen, who is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child, who was away on a family vacation at the time is said to be distraught and angry at Wayne over the

news – setting him a multitude of terms to get back together. It is unclear whether the couple will stay together over this latest news. Colleen is being urged to split with Wayne by family, friends and even the woman at the centre of the scandal who was interviewed by ITV show ‘This Morning’. At the time of going to print Colleen was spotted out in Manchester without her wedding ring.
NEWS JENNIFER GETS HER MAN Jennifer Lawrence has made her relationship official with director boyfriend Darren Aronofsky. Jennifer stars in Aronofsky's new psychological horror film ‘Mother’ and they reportedly started an official relationship after filming wrapped at the end of last year. To date they have managed to avoid discussing or photographing the romance. However, that all changed at the New York City premiere last month where the new couple were draped all over each other on the red carpet. Darren, who is 20 years older than his Oscar-winning girlfriend, said: “I don’t
know what makes her great – maybe it was her parents, maybe it was the Kentucky water. I have no idea, but she’s, like, a once-in-a-generation talent, and just a whirlwind and a hurricane and an earthquake and a thunderstorm of talent.” And Jennifer is equally as praising, saying, “I mean, his point of view, his artistic uniqueness. He’s just brilliant. Incredibly instinctual.” In August this year Jennifer was linked to ‘Passengers’ co-star Chris Pratt and reports claimed that she may have been the reason actor Chris was separating from his long term partner Anna Ferris.
BRANGELINA BACK ON Hollywood’s most powerful couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are getting back together. Jolie initiated divorce proceedings in September 2016 following allegations of Pitt’s drink and drug use and an incident on a private jet involving their 16-year-old adopted son Maddox. However time apart has shown the pair that they “can’t live with and can’t without each other,” a source said. The couple have agreed to change certain aspects of their relationship that were becoming toxic.
Brad has reportedly employed a sober coach who is living with him 7 days a week in his modest LA home. Angelina, who is living in a palatial mansion with the 6 children, had previously not agreed to counselling has said she will talk through the marital problems. “There were a lot of tears,” the source claims. “Brad took the first step forward then they collapsed into each other’s arms. They had it out, right there and then - In that moment they decided to make a fresh start.”
KATIE BREAKS LAW & KIERAN’S HEART It’s a double whammy for glamour model and ‘Loose Woman’ presenter Katie Price this month; breaking up with husband Kieran Hayler and posing naked on a family friendly beach in Miami. Katie, whose alter ago Jordan made her a household name in the nineties, was pictured posing for her 2018 calendar completely naked with just a hat covering her modesty in one snap and an array of outfits including a see-through crochet top exposing her 32GG surgically enhanced chest. When Katie was alerted to the fact she was breaking the law by taking off her clothes on the family beach, she responded, “I don't care!” The news comes as Katie announced she is splitting with her third husband Kieran after 4 years of marriage. Kieran, who is a selfconfessed sex addict, had been caught romping with the couple’s nanny and following a string of other affairs, including sleeping with one of Katie’s best friends in 2015, Katie decided enough was enough.
GEORGE CRIES 4 TIMES A DAY In a candid interview new dad George Clooney, who welcomed twins Ella and Alexander back in June, admits he couldn't be prouder despite being desperately sleep deprived. The ‘Ocean’s 11’ star, 56, said that while his twin son and daughter don't cry, "I cry more than they do. I cry four times a day right now, because I’m so tired. "Hey, remember back when you were single, before you didn’t have to worry about keeping people alive?” he joked. He also admitted that having twins is “daunting” and admires wife Amal for breastfeeding them and only getting "about two hours sleep per interval". Sounds like he has the better deal here!

RULEBREAKING
Black Tie as a dress code doesn’t actually mean you have to stick to a boring black tuxedo choice these days, as these male ‘rule breaking’ celebrities proved in spades at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.
BIG BOYS TOYS
Amongst the best dressed list was the likes of Tine Tempah with a burgundy textured print number and Hector Bellerin’s Alexander McQueen paisley offering was also a real head turner. Eric Underwood braved the event in a head to toe grey tux from Brunello Cucinelli looking dapper and non-conventional with black go faster stripes panelled on the trousers and a black shirt and bow tie. However, the biggest red carpet risk taker was Jared Leto, who wore a red checked Gucci suit - complete with embroidery on the collar, white Gucci socks and loafers. Rather than get a grilling all the celebs have been praised in the Best Dressed Lists far and wide for their gumption and style choices. So with awards season firmly in swing, why don’t you take a leaf out of their books and dare to be different on the red carpet at the Marbella Awards 2017. We are papping and awarding the Best Dressed Winners on the night!

A hearty dish that will you see you through those Winter months and the whole family can enjoy. // Prep. time: 30 minutes // Cooking time: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS (Serves 6) • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided • 6 skinless chicken breast fillets, cubed • 4 tablespoons white wine (optional) • 2 medium leeks, chopped • 15g butter • 1 tablespoon plain flour • 750ml milk • 1 cube chicken stock • Salt and pepper, to taste • 1 (500g) block puff pastry, thawed if frozen
METHOD 1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a frying pan until hot. Cook chicken until brown all over. Set aside. 2. Using the same pan, heat the remaining oil and add the wine, if using, add the leeks and cook and stir until the leeks are tender and the wine has evaporated. Set aside. 3. Melt butter in a large pot. Stir in the flour to create a smooth paste. Gradually add the the
stirring continuously until sauce thickens. 4. Add chicken and leeks to the pot and crumble in the stock cube and season. Cover and simmer over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes. 5. Meanwhile, line a 23cm x 30cm or similar size tin with puff pastry. Fill with chicken and leek mixture and cover with a layer of puff pastry. (At this stage, you can brush the top with egg, if desired). 6. Bake in a preheated 200 C/Gas 6 oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until pastry is puffy and golden. Remove from the oven and serve. Add the courgette and aubergine and cook until soft. Add the mushroom and cook until the mixture becomes dry, then add the spinach and cook until dry again.
WINEMATCH PAIRING WINE A smooth, creamy but not too oaky Chardonnay is always good with chicken in a creamy sauce. A Chablis or MaconVillages would also be a classic match as is an old vine Chenin Blanc with a touch of oak. As this a hearty dish you may prefer to leave the wine altogether and go for a blonde or golden ale if you prefer beers.

THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US
PINK - BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA
- ORIGIN DAN BROWN
Stranded after a tragic plane crash in the Rocky Mountains two strangers, Alex; played by Kate Winslet and Ben; played by ‘Mandela’ actor Idris Elba must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. When they realise help isn’t coming instead of going all ‘Alive’ on us, they embark on a terrifying journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness - luckily they have stashes of food, pushing one another to endure terrifying obstacles whilst at the same time igniting an unexpected attraction. Well that’s one way to keep warm! Adapted from the novel of the same name by Charles Martin ‘The Mountain Between Us’ marks the Hollywood debut of Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad, whose feature films ‘Paradise Now’ and ‘Omar’ were both nominated for Foreign Language Oscars. While these two movies dealt with the conflict in the Middle East, the 55-yearold filmmaker easily makes the transition here to a more romantic feature film. Box office pundits are already anticipating this to be a smash when it is released in the early part of October.
Pink has already smashed it out of the park with the first hit single from her seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma. The single ‘What About Us’ a beautiful club ballad, released on August 10, made it to number one in 3 countries and the Top 10 in a further 9. If it’s a sign of the rest of the 13-track album released by Sony’s RCA Records on October 13, expect to be mesmerised. Grammy-award winning Pink really is one of the most exceptional singer, songwriters and performers of our time and this seventh offering marks 5 years since her last album release date (‘The Truth About Love’ was released back in 2012) and it appears it has been well worth the wait. The married mum of two also co-wrote all the songs on the album. Pink, real name Alecia Beth Moore, is also pretty chuffed with the way the album turned out, “I'm certifiably, insanely proud of this album,” she said on Instagram. “It's been a while, and I'm grateful for all the years we've had. Looking forward to the next chapter with you.”
Robert Langdon is back for his fifth outing in the Dan Brown best-selling series. This time the Harvard professor of symbology arrives at the Guggenheim Museum to attend the unveiling of a discovery that “will change the face of science forever.” The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a billionaire whose high-tech inventions have made him a renowned global figure. But the evening suddenly erupts into chaos, and Kirsch’s precious discovery teeters on the brink of being lost forever. Facing an imminent threat, Langdon is forced into a desperate bid to escape Bilbao. With him is Ambra Vidal, the elegant museum director who worked with Kirsch to stage the provocative event. Together they flee to Barcelona on a perilous quest to locate a cryptic password that will unlock Kirsch’s secret. On a trail marked by modern art and enigmatic symbols, Langdon and Vidal uncover clues that ultimately bring them face-to-face with Kirsch’s discovery and the breathtaking truth that has long eluded us. If you are a fan of the previous four books you will love this latest novel set in and around Spain.

KRYSTAL PR & MANAGEMENT Krystal PR & Management brings you the hottest performance acts around. You may have caught The Voice’s Lydia Lucy or X Factor’s Conor McKenna performing at Marbella’s top entertainment venues this Summer. Well that’s all thanks to Krystal PR & Management and head honcho Kym Rowlingson who has recently opened a Marbella division to her thriving UK business to keep you guys entertained on the Costa Del Sol all year round. Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of catching up with Kym to hear all about her burgeoning business and what’s in store for us in 2017 and 2018.
Q: So Kym how did you get into the world of celebrity PR & Management?
Kym: My career in the entertainment industry, started out like so many others, with Shayne Ritchie as a Blue Coat at Pontins. Although I had trained as a professional dancer and fully qualified to teach, it was soon apparent that my real passion was in singing and song writing. It was there as a singer myself, touring and gigging worldwide, for over 15 years. I was bought up in a very showbiz family, my aunt being one of the original Tiller girls and theatrical agent and my dad spanned a career of over 30 years as a professional TV and stand-up comedian. I suppose you could say I was destined for this path.
Q: What made you decide to set up your own company?
Kym: Having worked in the industry for so many years, I wanted to give something back of my life experience. I feel very passionate about mentoring people in this industry and helping them flourish.
Q: What is the best thing and greatest pitfall of owning your own business?
Kym: There’s always great satisfaction in knowing you’ve helped people become a success. It’s a lifestyle rather than a job. The world of PR & Management never sleeps!
Q: Who are the current artists on your books?
Kym: We’re currently working with many great established up and coming artists – the list is endless!
26 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 35
Q: Are you looking to get any more signings this year? If so who? Kym: We’re always on the lookout for great talent. One of the things I enjoy is putting young artists into development programs and watching them flourish.
Q: You also seem to get on socially with most acts you represent, is this important for you?
Kym: Of course it is. I think it’s important to maintain a good relationship with all clients – and more importantly be trusted by them. Apparently I am known as the “mommyger!”
Q: Who is the most fun to go out and party with and why?
Kym: All of my clients are fun, in their own individual ways. You only get one chance at this life so enjoy it to the full.
Q: You work with some of the top venues in the coast including Olivia’s La Cala and Fuel Brasserie – are you expanding this list?
Kym: We certainly are. The Krystal empire continues to grow both in Marbella and the UK.
Q: You have great links with The X Factor on ITV and The Voice on BBC One, how did you get involved with these TV shows and their acts?
Kym: Both of these shows are a great platform for any aspiring artist who wants to progress in the industry. I’ve worked with both shows for a number of years now and have
enjoyed seeing we put forward progress, as some of my artists have through to the live shows.
Q: You also organise venues and their PR putting on these shows, it must be a tough job organising events from start to finish?
Kym: Of course it can be very demanding, but its great fun – I thrive on the adrenaline rush of putting on a successful event together. I also have a great team around me both in the UK & Marbella, which helps massively.
Q: We have heard that you work 14-16 hour days! What gives you job satisfaction to put in these hours?
Kym: I’m a self-confessed workaholic! However, the biggest satisfaction for me is always seeing my clients happy which makes it all worthwhile.
Q: What are your plans for the Winter in Marbella?
Kym: Just to continue doing what we’re doing! We have some great events lined up and some exciting new TV projects on the horizon.
Q: And what about 2018?
Kym: 2018 is set to be a very big year for both Krystal and the clients on board. We can’t say too much at the moment but watch this space.
Q: Your Krystal mantra is “We believe that better results come from better thinking, creativity and hard craft, implemented with brilliance.” How do you put this into action?
Kym: You’ve always got to be one step ahead in this industry. Brands need to think outside the box to deliver their best – and that’s where we step in to maximise their brand awareness. With regards to the management side, we look after all celebrities ranging from the sports to reality as well as music.
Q: Finally if you had to represent one celeb client of your choice, who would it be and why?
Kym: If I could have had the opportunity to work with anyone in the world, it would have been George Michael. Get in touch with Krystal PR & Management, the ideas led agency who deliver bespoke solutions across social & traditional media for both Management, PR and Events in the UK and the Costa Del Sol.

RESTAURANTEUR, TV STAR, DAD AND SOON TO BE HUSBAND ELLIOTT WRIGHT HAS PLENTY OF STRINGS TO HIS BOW. FROM STARRING IN SERIES 12 OF THE ONLY WAY IS ESSEX, MARK WRIGHT’S CHEEKY CHAPPY OLDER COUSIN HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE BURSTING ONTO OUR TV SCREENS IN 2014. s well as starring in regular episodes of TOWIE, TOWIM, Life on Marbs and having two of his very own shows commissioned for ITVBe (Playa in Marbella in 2016 and the soon to be onscreen nupitals to beautiful bride Sadie) Elliott has also carved himself out to be a major figurehead on the Costa Del Sol. It is all thanks to his stunning restaurant Olivia’s La Cala. Situated a short drive from Marbella in the gorgeous beachside resort of La Cala de Mijas, Olivia’s is undoubtedly one of the most popular restaurants on the coast and as such it has been nominated for Best Restaurant in the Marbella Awards 2017. It has also firmly put La Cala de Mijas as an area to visit on the map, with beautiful unspoilt beaches and quaint Spanish charm, Olivia’s and the TV attention that surrounds it makes it one of the many places to tick off on holidaymakers visits to Spain. “This small piece of paradise has been my dream for 15 years,” Elliott recalls. “Beachside dining under the stars with panoramic views. Fine food and fine company.” Fast forward two years and it is safe to

say Elliot’s dream has become a reality. Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of catching up with Elliott to discuss, among many things, his greatest loves: Olivia’s La Cala, Sadie and his two children Elliott and Olivia. Q: So what made you decide to set up Olivia La Cala’s? Elliott: I've opened up several restaurants in Alicante and normally the size of Olivia’s but I always said if I could find a location on the Costa Del Sol that was the size of Eduardo’s my other place and on a beach I would have to drop everything... I didn't expect to be so lucky to find such a place so when it came up I simply had to take it even though it meant putting my successful TV career on hold. Q: You have emerged as one of the most popular places to visit on the Costa Del Sol, what sets Olivia’s apart from its competitors? Elliott: I suppose we have a different concept to others. Apart from the fact the entertainment is focused mainly for the dining clients, where as other large venues they are more based for the bar, but mainly it's the difference in dining experience you can have all under one roof. For instance we have very relaxed
comfortable terrace chairs, all with sea views, so you could sit in the sun in the day and chill all afternoon or you can come inside as a group and have a more party atmosphere... similarly you can come in and just have a drink. Q: You were behind the actual design of your dream restaurant – what influenced your décor choices? Elliott: When I set out with the rebuild of Olivia’s I wanted it female focused in design so you will find feminine touches, décor and colour and all natural colours you would find on the beach. I decided to do this as when you have a lot of female clients especially in a party environment the atmosphere is great and that's what I love most about Olivia’s… women feeling comfortable and enjoying the atmosphere... you can't buy that. Q: Is your daughter proud that you named the restaurant after her? Elliott: My daughter is only 8 but she loves the restaurant... especially winding my son up that she has one and he doesn't! Q: You have been running for 2 years in La Cala – are there plans to extend the brand to new locations? Elliott: I'm always on the lookout for other business opportunities but right now I'm focusing on Olivia’s and its brand... there are so many good bars and restaurants in La Cala and what's important now is that we all work together to show the coast what I believe…La Cala de Mijas is very much up and coming. Q: You are synonymous with having the best talent on the coast perform at Olivia’s – is that a big draw to customers to have entertainment 7 nights a week in Summer? Elliott: I have always set out have great entertainment and I'm always looking to bring in different talent. Olivia’s is about being different and being fresh so especially this year we have been
looking at bringing over acts that we believe may be a star in the future. So we are looking into who's the star of this years X Factor for example and we’ll bring them over. At the same time we have the odd classic acts too. We will definitely continue with that pattern next year. Q: What are your plans for Winter and next year? We've always got something going on at Olivia’s throughout the Winter but from a TV perspective next year I will definitely feature more on the box. I would love to do the prostate cancer awareness show again for ITV... we did The Full Monty this year and it was the biggest grossing factual show ever. We crashed the UK Prostrate website with men asking questions and we definitely feel we saved lives so that is a given again. And there is more potential things on ITV1 and also ITVBe are talking to me about more about another show out here on the coast, plus other channels, so for sure I will be on the TV screens next year to some degree. Q: What is the Best and Worst thing about running your own restaurant? Elliott: When it's going smooth and the champagne is flowing and when it's not - it has to be when the electric keeps cutting out! Q: How did you know Sadie was ‘the one’ when you met her? Elliott: I knew Sadie was the one when she met my kids. Q: Can you tell us more about your upcoming wedding? Elliott: The wedding build up will be on ITVBe in October.... I can't say more than that unfortunately as I can't contractually. Sorry guys! "Elliott and Sadie The Wedding" will be a two-part special on ITVBe on Wednesday 11th & Wednesday 18th October at 9pm. Marbella Rocks wishes the beautiful couple all the best!

CELEB TRANSFORMATIONS
THE TOP CELEBRITY 2017 TRANSFORMATIONS REVEALED There is something about the end of Summer that brings about the need for transformation. Be it a drastic colour, cut or complete body overhaul – people are yearning to be out with the old and in with the new. We round up the top celeb Autumn transformations and give you top tips on how to achieve.
RIHANNA
The end of the summer can only mean one thing for Riri – an aquamarine set of long hair extensions?! Yes that’s exactly what we were thinking. While Rihanna is never afraid of experimenting with new looks this almost cartoon character shade has left us a little bewildered. Although she can pull anything off really. TOP TIP: Hair has to be lightened before applying a bright colour like this aquamarine. Do not begin to undertake if your hair is weak or damaged.
HALLE BERRY
kim k
Kim Kardashian has gone all chameleon on us. She turned up at New York Fashion Week having ditched her trademark dark hair and sporting icy white blonde tresses. Kim credits her stylist Chris Appleton for the look. “We wanted a whole new vibe – and a drastic change. This look is a great transition from the super-long Cher like style Kim’s been rocking since last year in Paris,” Chris said. Kim first debuted ice white locks in 2015, albeit briefly. TOP TIP: Always see a professional when undergoing a drastic change like this and like Kim use the protecting product Olaplex to minimise damage to your hair.
34 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 35
The 51-year-old Oscar winning actress has swapped her trademark brunette bob for long extensions with flashes of purple throughout the front of the style. Whilst not normally a do for the over forties to pull off – Halle manages to work this new makeover looking sensational and proving age is just a number and a drastic transformation can work for anyone. TOP TIP: Ditch dying purple streaks to your hair to minimise damage and opt for colour clip-ins from only €2.99 from www.keepcalmandclipemin.com.
ZAYN MALIK
Former One Direction star Zayn has ditched his boy band roots altogether with this drastic shaved haircut with bleach blonde tips. Keeping it rock star he opted for an unshaven bearded look to accompany as he picked up his award for GQ’s ‘Most Stylish Man Of The Year’ award last month. Ever the style icon this look is more keeping with his new album release – which sees Zayn produce a more modern and mature sound. TOP TIP: Go for the hassle free shaved look - anything from Grade 0-3 on the Barber’s clippers will do.
FEATURES
PARIS JACKSON
The Prince of Pop's actress/singer daughter unveiled a new, sophisticated ombre colour at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles last month. Swapping her trademark all-over bleach blonde Madonna-esque bob for smokey grey ends and dark roots, Jackson is pioneering what we're naming the 'sombre' hair colour trend (basically a soft ombre look). TOP TIP: Sombré looks best on high-shine hair, so give it a little boost in between colour appointments with a high gloss in-salon treatment and a deep conditioning mask once a week.
SOFIA VERGARA
The Latina lovely celebrated her 45th birthday by getting a new set of bangs at the end of Summer. The ‘Modern Family’ star visited Kelly Kline in LA to get the overhaul which has totally transformed her look. Vergara posted a photo of herself casually kicking back in her car with a sexy black top and matching heart necklace. TOP TIP: There’s a fringe out there for everyone! Square faces – choose long eye-grazing fringes. Round faces – choose fringes that arch to create dimension. Heart faces – choose sideswept fringes. Oval – anything goes.
PIPPA MIDDLETON
shakira
Blonde bombshell Shakira has gone red. The ‘She Wolf’ singer showed off her sexy new colour on the set of her latest music video for her pop-reggaeton duet Perro Fiel with Nicky Jam. This marks the first time Shakira has ditched her trademark blonde locks and the 40-yearold captioned the post on her Instagram account with the tagline: “Redheads have more fun.” TOP TIP: Red hair colour fades the fastest. It takes hair colour around 24 hours to set, so don’t even think about lathering up after leaving the salon and use shampoos and conditioners with no suplate to keep the colour lasting longer.
The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s younger sister who has always sported mid-length to long tresses has gone for an image overhaul for September cutting into the ever popular “lob” cut (referring to long bob). This is the first time since being in the public eye Pippa has gone short and gives her a cool edgy vibe. TOP TIP: A great cut for anyone with damaged summer hair as all the split ends can be cut off to allow better growth of the new hair.

AND THE BODY BEAUTIFUL… JONAH HILL
The ‘Superbad’ actor stepped out in LA at the end of Summer revealing a huge 3 stone weight loss. Jonah has been gradually losing weight since tipping the scales in films like ‘Knocked Up’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ but was the required to put on 40 pounds for ‘War Dogs’ last summer. Jonah attributes his brand new physique to daily gym sessions and healthy eating. TOP TIP: Jonah says he loses weight when he stays off the beer and when he eats out he chooses Japanese restaurants to keep calorie intake low.
SOPHIA BUSH
Natural brunette Sophia paid a visit to celebrity hairstylist Riawna Capri at Nine Zero One salon in California last month for a highlight touch-up that left her roots and tips lightly coated with a cool-toned blonde. Instead of brassy pieces or full head of peroxide to lift the colour, it looks very natural and the finished product is a definite nod to this year’s ‘cream soda’ trend which stormed NYFW 2017. TOP TIP: This is a perfect transitional shade for brunettes looking to lighten up without a shock of sharp-colour contrast
HOLLY WILLOUGHBY
‘This Morning’ star Holly has been gradually disappearing for the past 6 months shedding over 2 stone in weight! And her latest Instagram posts reveal the presenter is down to the lightest she has even been. Holly claims her weight loss is to do with having “more time to herself as her children are now older” and by doing daily Pilates sessions. TOP TIP: Do Pilates if you want a steamlined look as it doesn’t bulk you and there is no need to go to a gym – there are exercises that can easily be done from home.
REBEL WILSON
Australian actress Rebel Wilson has lost a staggering 4 stone after going to weight loss camp Ranch 4.0. The ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘How To Be Single’ actress who shot to fame playing Fat Amy on ‘Pitch Perfect’ has also revealed a new clothing line and has just successfully won a €4.5m defamation legal case against Bauer Media. Things are looking good for Thin Amy! TOP TIP: Rebel is into her sports now she has a smaller fame and is said to love hiking and playing tennis.

5 REASONS TO INVEST IN PRINT AS TODAY’S WORLD GETS INCREASINGLY DIGITAL, WITH MORE BRANDS AND BUSINESSES ADVERTISING ONLINE THAN EVER BEFORE, IT CAN BE EASY TO PUSH THE MORE TRADITIONAL PRINT ADVERTISING TO ONE SIDE. AFTER ALL, DIGITAL CAMPAIGNS CAN BE CHEAPER THAN THEIR PRINT ALTERNATIVES. BUT THIS EAGERNESS FOR “QUICK AND EASY” MARKETING COULD BE COSTING YOU CUSTOMERS.
Print advertising vs. digital advertisinG
A recent by study compared the reactions of subjects when presented with either a digital or physical advertisement. They used various neuromarketing techniques (such as eye tracking and biometric measurements) to gauge subjects’ reactions. The results of the study showed that print advertising was leaving more of a positive and lasting impression on the subjects: Subjects spent longer reviewing physical media than digital Printed media evoked higher emotional reactions Physical media led to subjects having a great desire for the product Subjects attached high subconscious values to products shown in the printed advertisements • A week later, subjects were able to recall and remember printed media more effectively than the digital counterparts
• • • •
Why should you use print advertising to promote your business? 1. High reaction rates for printed advertisements
A study conducted by the Newspaper Associated of America (NAA) found that 75% of people aged 25-34 react in some way to advertisements in print newspapers. This means that they engage with the advertised brand in some way, for example by using a coupon or visiting a website. This is great news for publishers as it shows that printed ads in magazine and newspapers leads to high engagement rates for the advertisers.
2. High reaction rates for printed advertisements
Many companies run annual marketing campaigns that involve some sort of
38 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 35
physical item alongside the printed marketing material. For example, they might send out a branded mug, soft toy or confectionary item with a printed flyer/card. Combining print and promotional goods in this way makes the receiver feel incredibly “special” when the package drops through their mailbox. Every time they go to use the branded item, or look at it on their desk, they’ll be reminded of your brand.
3. People automatically look at things that are placed in their hands
People will automatically look at what’s on the paper as soon as it touches their hands. With digital advertising, it’s all too easy to ignore the ads down the side of your screen, but when you’re actually touching something you can’t ignore it.
4. Printed advertising produces a better person-to-brand connection
The results of 2,000 people made it clear that people nurture a yearning for the tactile over the digital. For example, when asked which items they would miss the most if they were moved to digital only, participants not only listed the obvious choices of books, magazines and newspapers, but also marketing materials such as business cards and catalogues.
5. Print maximises sensory appeal
Marketers know they must appeal to all of a consumer’s senses to encourage a sale. It’s very hard to do this with digital advertising; you’re mainly limited to sight and occasionally sound if you have a video advert. However, with printed media, you have the smell of the freshly printed paper, the feel of it in your hand, the vibrant colours and the sound of the paper moving.
In conclusion
The many benefits of print advertising make it a must have source of marketing for all types of businesses. However, that’s not to say that digital marketing is something to be ignored. Many successful marketing campaigns utilise both mediums to produce a cohesive onbrand message. For example, you could have a printed campaign that contains a website address for people to visit in order to sign up for a discount code or a free sample of your product. These types of integrated campaigns not only raise awareness of your brand but also enable you to build an email list of people who you know are interested in your brand. You can then target these specific people for future campaigns.

Yes, yes and yes again! I really enjoy the buzz of working with the TOWIE guys, because they are as much fun as you’d think from watching the show. They have high style standards when they visit Marbs for shooting, so it’s not always fun, as it can become a storm of hair spray, clips and cava (for them, not me!) I got a real buzz from watching the first episode of this year’s show, as within the first 30 seconds four of my hairstyles appeared in the opening scene.

When the lovely ladies of Marbella visit GT salon, the requests tend to range by the season. In the autumn, winter and spring we have lots of local gals who regularly call for colour, cut and hair TLC and we operate pretty much like any high performing salon, with the view of giving our clients a first class experience. Summertime is hectic, as our clients are more inclined to be going to a White Party at Ocean or a club night in Olivia Valere’s, so the styles tend to be a little more edgy in line with the fashion for those events.
We hear you are the bridal specialist at Golden Tarts?
Yes I am! I absolutely love doing bridal hair, as it's so special to be chosen to be part of someone's big day. I find recently brides

have become more confident in their own style and the hair reflects this. Anything from a fishtail plait to a perfectly sculpted bun... anything goes it's your day, your style, your way.
What’s the best thing about working in GT?
It’s got to be the team and girls/guys that work there. When I first came to Spain, they welcomed me into their big family and it really has become a home to me. Anyone who visits will testify to the extreme fun and laughter you have from the moment you walk in the door, until you leave. We take our fun serious and our style even more seriously! We want to send all our ladies on their night out, looking and feeling like an A-List celeb, with a little glass of bubbly in hand (plastic of course!)

STOPTOBER DEBUNKING 5 OF THE FATTEST FITNESS MYTHS
S The newest edition to the booming fitness industry on the coast, Luke is owner and coach of Marbella´s first “women´s only outdoor boot camp company” – Miss Fit Marbella. Luke specialises in fitness for women, (weight loss and toning) and is a strong believer in training outdoors, which is why, all of his sessions are based on the beaches of Marbella, Puerto Banus and Nueva Andalucia. Expect to find articles that focus on exercise for the female sex, tips on how to achieve your body goals, help on those stubborn problem areas, education of nutrition and lifestyle and how exercise doesn’t have to be boring! “Don’t mistake fitness for a gym! Fitness is more than that, it is a lifestyle and can be anywhere or everywhere!”
ince the Internet has become so readily available, we can amazingly but dangerously, spiel off some info on any topic in the world within seconds. And I think there are more cons to this than pros. I wont lie, I Google topics I don't know about and can convince myself I am an expert that very same day. The truth is the same with information regarding personal training and fitness education. There are now thousands of uneducated guys and girls giving incorrect advice or believing everything they read on the internet. So this month I am going to try and explain to you what I believe to be the 5 biggest misconceptions in fitness we hear daily and take for gospel.
WEIGHT TRAINING WILL MAKE ME BULKY AND MUSCULAR
This first myth I am going to talk about, is more so in relation to women. Many ladies do not like to weight train or train with resistance (and I hear this at least once a day) because it will make them look too muscular and like a body builder!
THE TRUTH IS…
Muscle burns more calories than fat. In very simple terms the more lean muscle you have, the more calories you will burn. Muscle is more dense than fat, therefore fat is bigger per lb than muscle. What does this mean? The less fat and more muscle you will have, the smaller you will look due to surface area of body mass. Women, in general have low levels of testosterone, the main hormone in muscle creation. Without training extremely heavy and at low reps or taking testosterone, weight training will NOT make you bulky or muscular.
FATS MAKE YOU FAT
Now this one sounds like it's true right? Fats must make you fat...it is the same word! Now there is mixed research on all of these topics but no, fats will not make you fat! How much you eat may though!
64 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 35
THE TRUTH IS…
If you intake more calories than you burn you will put on weight. Every person has a calorie intake they should consume to remain the same weight. Fats contain more calories than protein or carbohydrates (9 kcal per g compared to 4kcal per g.) Therefore if you eat lots of fats you are more likely to go over your calorie allowance for the day. Fats are not the devil. There are two types of fats, saturated and unsaturated. Whilst as explained above weight is correlated to numbers and macros, saturated fats such as cheese, dairy products and red meats, can increase our cholesterol. Recent research is inconclusive as to the correlation between saturated fats and heart disease or obesity.
high intensity. In fact if you can work for an hour non-stop, your body definitely isn't being placed under a high enough stress. Our bodies react to stress, or overload. Sweating is a biological response to your body being over heated. It is a mechanism, it is not fat crying or whatever silly marketing jargon these classes and gyms use. More sweat does not mean more calories burnt! A lot of scientific research has shown that weight training
SQUATTING IS BAD FOR US AND OUR JOINTS
Now this one gets me. Rant time. Everyday Joe's telling me “you shouldn't squat or make your ladies squat, it is bad for their knees!” I would never say it but the response in my head goes something like this... “Thanks for your input but F%&$ OFF!” burns more fat and calories than running and cardio based activities. Up to 44% more. You do not have to always sweat to burn calories. But cardio is good for base level fitness and health. Try a combination of the two!
OVERTRAINING IS BAD FOR YOU
Now this is the controversial one. Science has again mixed in its thinking behind the idea of over training, or training too much. Now from a practical side I suggest this. If you are a builder you work Monday, Tuesday and you tell your boss Wednesday and Thursday you are going to rest because you are a bit tired...
THE TRUTH IS…
THE TRUTH IS…
Research is again a little inconclusive as to the effects, long term deep squatting has had on knees with many negative research papers showing correlation not causation. Basically unreliable studies! Of course you can injure a joint that you are using, when loaded with force and especially with bad technique. But remember, we bend down how many times a day?! This is a movement we use daily, not an alien movement that our bodies are not designed for! Research into Olympic Weightlifters showed deep squatting (below 90 degrees) increased cartilage size and knee stability, there was no correlation to increased ligament stress and squatters with an average of 17 years squatting, had the same level of knee cartilage degeneration to that of age matched people who had never squatted.
Our bodies adapt to deal with the daily stresses our lives put on us. If you need to build and lift 8 hours a day, your body will adapt to allow you to do that. And 100% your body will be fitter to deal with it. Now the flip side. Training 3 hours in the gym without a break; spinning, followed by abs and a gym session. Go to work, come home and hit a quick run at night! If like the majority of people, you have to work, don't eat perfectly and don't get adequate sleep, you will be overtraining and you will get ill. The answer is to train harder and smarter for 1 to 2 hours than killing yourself at a lower intensity for 4, depending on your goals. However the underlying research showed, in a week frequency wise, training the same body part up to 3 times a week had no effect on the body going catabolic (breakdown phase). Showing your body could deal with a high frequency of training without effecting the recovery process.
iF YOU WANT TO BURN FAT YOU HAVE TO SWEAT
Body Pump, Spinning, Running, Aerobics classes... You leave drenched and you worked for an hour continuously, therefore you must have burned lots of calories and you will of course get results...WRONG!
THE TRUTH IS…
If you worked for an hour non-stop, that class was not

PEGGOTTY'S
ituated in the popular area of Benavista, opposite the Senator Banus Hotel only 5 minutes from Marbella, you will find Peggotty’s – often regarded as the best fish and chip shop & flame grilled restaurant on the coast – and that is spot on in our opinion. Peggotty’s has stood the test of time, serving top quality British food to customers of all nationalities on the Costa Del Sol since opening its doors in 2005. It also boasts an impressive client list consisting of Sir Alan Sugar, Harry Redknapp, George Graham, Theo Pathitis, Vinny Samways, Michelle Heaton, Rylan, John Higgins and Bill Bailey. These celebs are definitely onto something! Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of dining out at Peggotty’s

for this Restaurant Review and we too believe its well-earned reputation! On arrival we were greeted by owner Costa and his friendly team and felt immediately at home. The restaurant itself is very modern with a black, white and electric blue theme running throughout, beautiful artwork on the walls and a choice of al fresco or indoor dining. There is also ample parking outside the restaurant reserved solely for Peggotty’s customers. The menu is also impressive, with something for everyone on the list. As well as a wide choice of fish, flame grilled chicken, pies and sausages (being British this was the authentic dishes we had been missing!) there is also a great selection of burgers, ribs and sides.
Our tasters opted for the classic Cod and Chips with British sides of mushy peas and a pickled gherkin! The portion was very generous and the batter fluffy yet crispy. The fish was so fresh and literally flaked away when we were eating it a sure sign of good cooking and quality produce. Next up, on our attentive waitresses recommendation, we went for the authentic Southern Fried Chicken which consisted of a selection of succulent chicken wing, leg and breast portions with lots of meat on the bone and a delicious
its passion for serving good food: “Our secret is that we have many simple things which are all done to perfection. With more than 35 years experience, myself, my wife Nikki and my daughter Xanthe, say that it is passion and hands-on dedication that drive Peggotty’s top class reputation.” Costa has been in the business in England since 1977. As a family run restaurant it is no surprise kids are welcome. Peggotty’s has catered for its little customers offering a
crispy coating. (Our lengthy trips to KFC in La Canada is halved now we know about Peggotty’s!) The chicken came with coleslaw and chips but we opted for curry sauce and gravy as extra sides for dipping – both were welcome additions. And you heard it here first - the chips at Peggotty’s are to die for, made from the best potatoes cooked in a very unique way – you will definitely be back for more. The portions are quite large at Peggotty’s so for the less hungry customer they have introduced smaller portions for even better value, both on takeaways and restaurant meals. This also leaves more room to try some of the sinful but delicious desserts, such as the American Rockslide Brownie served with vanilla ice-cream or classic Banana Fritters, Apple Pie or Peach Melba all served with ice-cream. Owner Costa attributes the restaurants ongoing success to
children’s menu for around €5 including ice-cream. Plus, there are great adult meal deals including a 3 course menu for only €12.95 and a Small Fish & Chip Special with Tartare Sauce and Lemon for only €9.95, not that you need another excuse to go! The wine here is good too and like the prices – extremely affordable, so a trip to Peggotty’s won’t break the bank and a meal for a family of 4 can stand you in under €50. So in summary, Peggotty’s is a beautifully designed family restaurant catering for small or large parties, families and even couples with its candlelit tables. Open Monday to Saturday from 6pm - 11pm. We wholeheartedly recommend and our tasters have been back twice since writing the review so you know you’re onto a good thing! ARTIST PROFILE
Swarovski Art
The Swarovski Crystals series by Dutch artist Lala van der Veken is a series of five unique artworks each made with Swarovski crystals & Gold Leaf. Atrium Gallery in Marbella hosted the first Swarovski exhibition last June. A resounding success to the growing art scene on the Costa Del Sol, Lala has been commissioned to make many more unique, Swarovski art pieces.
WU TANG CLAN More recently Lala was asked to create a unique piece of Swarovski art for the famous Hip Hop group, Wu Tang Clan. Her work is currently touring on the exclusive world tour exhibition of rare collectable items of the Wu Tang Clan. Her next exhibition will be in Paris and Germany. Her pieces have also made the international art work and rare collectable items book "Wu Lab" by Olivier Annet N'Guessan. Lala was also the first to bring ‘bling’ to the Costa del Sol, customising everything from fashion and accessories even down to a Masserati car and diverse pieces of furniture. “Anything is possible,” she says. Her next series (currently in production) will be inspired by Hollywood movies. Lala is praised for her unique approach and ability to set trends. She was nominated twice by readers of Marbella Rocks Magazine for the coveted Best Fashion Award in the Marbella Awards 2015 and Marbella Awards 2016, coming runner up in the former. Gabynsky added, “I wish my dog art will spread good spirit around the world and bring happiness to many homes.” You can follow her artist page Lala Van der Veken on Facebook or Instagram, for commissions and enquiries. eMail: lalavanderveken@gmail.com Facebook: Lala Van der Veken Instagram: Iycybaby Twitter : Lala Van der Veken

Disastrous Superfan
TATTOOS SOME SERIOUSLY BAD CELEB INSPIRED TATTOOS HAVE BEEN SURFACING ON THE WEB OF LATE. SOME OF THESE INKINGS ARE BARELY RECOGNISABLE FROM THE CELEBS THESE CRAZY SUPERFANS HAVE SUPPOSEDLY PAYED HOMAGE TO! OUR PERSONAL FAVES ARE TUPAC SHAKUR AS A UNICORN AND PATRICK SWAYZE AS A CENTAUR – HALF HORSE/HALF DANCER – OF COURSE AND WHY NOT?!
Showing her softer side: She was known as the Iron Lady but someone bizarrely decided to represent Margaret Thatcher as a cheerful ice cream cone
If you were inclined to get a tattoo of Britney Spears, remembering when she shaved her head during a breakdown is probably not the moment you'd choose
It's not clear who this man resembles, but it's certainly not Robert Pattinson in Twilight
He wants to break free: Hopefully this Freddie Mercury tattoo can be easily covered up Would Cheryl turn her nose up at this tattoo? She's a fan of body art but she's not likely to be impressed If it wasn't for the helpful wording at the bottom, this could be mistaken for a random tattoo of a man in a prison jumpsuit
Thankfully the initials MJ and the exaggerated nose give a clue as to who is pictured in this inking, which look as if it was drawn by a five-year-old
104 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 35
A disaster of Titanic proportions: The hair alone is enough to make you google laser tattoo removal
Return to sender: At least that's what the recipient of this Elvis tattoo was probably thinking when they saw it
In real life Thom Yorke has two eyes, rather than a single nipple on his face
If the crazed fan Stan that Eminem rapped about got a tattoo, it might look a lot like this
This inking has the double whammy of a smirking Patrick Swayze and some helpful life advice
The presidency is only eight years at the most, but this terrifying tattoo of Barack Obama is for life
The face isn't a bad resemblance to Tupac, it's just a shame about the horn and hooves
Not having the time of his life: The late Patrick Swayze immortalised as a Centaur is an example of why it's best to stay away from the tattoo parlour
If you're struggling to figure this one out, she's part of a famous family, everyone's name begins with K and she loves a scantily clad selfie
IF YOU HAVE SEEN ANYMORE CELEB TATS THAT ARE WORTHY OF OUR LIST POST THEM ON TWITTER TAGGING @MARBELLA_ROCKS AND THE BEST WILL WIN A DINNER FOR TWO AT A TOP MARBELLA RESTAURANT.

This month begins a cycle that’s all about benefitting from someone’s backing, validation, expertise or financing. Shared assets, money and other resources – including time, come into focus. What you share with others and others share with you – especially partners, will be important during the next 12 months. Most of you should benefit from either someone putting their resources – anything from cash to their home, time or even a horse, at your disposal. Your money and what you value will play an important role in all of this. There’s also a new sexiness about you this month. You’re up for exploring a few of life’s deep mysteries with someone and it’s not so much just about the sex as about where the sex could take you. Destiny plays an increasing role in all of this as fate takes you along previously unexplored pathways. Do you feel you’re in charge of your fate or a victim of it? The outcome all boils down to personal power, and how you wield it starting this October.
At long last – love, Taurus. If it has been elusive lately then this month marks the beginning of your best chance to find it in 12 years. If love flew out of the window some time ago with your current partner, this cycle also offers the opportunity to exit gracefully and minimise recrimination and hurt feelings. At some point during the next year you will receive an opportunity to begin anew when it comes to love or else experience the Power of Two in some way, shape or form. It’s not a time to go it alone and please remember, love takes many forms. Any endeavour where two people come together with a joint goal or vision is a partnership. This can be a business partnership, collaboration or activity partner. A close personal friend is a partner. Don’t limit the potential of this cycle by focussing solely on romantic relationships. The bottom line is: If it involves you and someone else - it’s all love. And that’s what the universe wants you to experience now.
Right now you can buy a robot fridge that will deliver your drinks and snacks direct to your desk or couch merely by yelling ‘Wine!’. I mention this as October marks a period where you can look forward to increased health and wellbeing – provided you make some kind of an effort. However, if you are a career couch potato with that robot fridge topping your Christmas wishlist, then nothing much is likely to change. But if a more buff you and more energy tops that list instead, you may get given unexpected help acquiring it. If you hate your day job on top of that, the next year may see more than one offer to upgrade your work and pay on top of that. In fact, these two areas may be connected. It’s all about being prepared to change things if they need changing rather than just going along with the status quo and ‘sort of okay’. When you stop and think about it, elasticated pants and mind numbing work is ‘sort of okay’. But are they really acceptable? Time to get off the couch and get the heart racing instead.
Lovers, romance, children, creativity, pleasure. Being treated like a King or a Queen by someone who appreciates you. Getting a chance to shine. Lucky you, Cancer. All this and more is in the offing in the next 12 months. Singles should prepare for more than one potential suitor to come knocking. Your children if you have them will be an increased source of satisfaction and if you’re not yet a parent but would like to be, this is a fabulous year for making babies. Expect attention wherever you go – to be the centre of it that is whether this is on a personal or professional level. If you’ve been feeling of late you have been labouring away behind the scenes and unacknowledged, expect to be in the spotlight or to be taking a more ‘front of house’ position. There’s an aura of glamour around you so cultivate this and you could even find yourself in the company of ‘glamourous’ or even famous, people. Your star is on the ascendant now and set to rise. Step out onto the cosmic red carpet, act as if you are the star of your own show and watch as everyone wants to shine along with you.

A place to call your own or simply more room? Whichever it is you’re hankering after Leo (maybe a bit of both?), October marks one of the best cycles when it comes to home and property dealings you’ve experienced for some time. Putting down roots, your security and family ties all matter now. Many of you will experience a change of address for the better in the next 12 months. If you’ve been trying to get that foot on the property ladder, you could now find yourself on the first rung – perhaps due to the help of a family member. Those already on there could move on up and even if you can only rent, you may find yourself with the keys to a door bigger and better than you thought you would. Women will play a big role in how this month and the next year unfolds with many Leos benefitting from the generosity and/or help of a female relative, boss or friend. It’s all about putting down roots and thinking about the future. October is a good time to review those long-term plans, make any adjustments and commit. The ‘c’ word could crop up a lot now especially if you are already in a relationship. Make those commitments.
Business takes an upswing and expansion and learning opportunities are in the offing now. You’ll get to take what you say and know to a wider audience and may be surprised at just how far one idea can take you. It’s now time to back up what you know and say with action however to get the most out of this cycle. After all, talk is cheap but actions don’t just speak louder than words, they transform ideas into concrete results. If you’ve been wanting to take a course or upskill in some way, you’ll be given an opportunity to expand your knowledge base at some point in the next 12 months. Your work, studies and even your neighbourhood could be set to transform. Travel is on the horizon and this may be connected to either study or work. But the funny thing is that even if you don’t leave home you could find yourself interacting with people from far away – right on your doorstep. Time to implement those business plans, write that novel or screenplay, make that pitch or launch yourself out into the wider world if only on-line. Luck is on your side now. Play to win.

If you’ve been humming Abba’s ‘Money money money’ lately you could just be about to discover how funny handling more of it can be – even if you don’t enter that rich man’s world. Time to decide just what your financial priorities are – aside from the usual Libran ‘must-haves’ of beautiful things, that is. You are about to embark on a 12 month cycle where you can enjoy a big improvement in your finances. You’ll earn more during this period and the only question will be: what will you choose to do with it? What is really important for you? Is it more ‘stuff’ or is it security or buying experiences? If you set some financial goals by this time next year you should have the satisfaction of having seen most of them materialise. And ‘material’ is your key word now. Yes, we are living in a material world but there are some things money cannot buy. You are about to get to enjoy those it can and also some of the more intangible ones it cannot – such as love, increased self-worth and a sense of empowerment. Bank on it.
It’s all about you now and it’s also all about the new. In fact, it’s time for a new you so definitely don’t be your old self. As the sign of the phoenix you know a lot more about reinvention than Madonna does. So, work it. The next 12 months promises some kind of change to your image and people looking at you in an entirely new light. Better get ready to pack those bags as travel beckons as well as a fresh start in a key area. If you’ve been feeling that something needs changing or a way of living and/or working has been lived out, then do something about it. This month sees the first steps being taken into a wider world of experience on some level. Look at which areas need a upgrade – whether it’s just your wardrobe, your career or just your way of thinking. And this includes what you think about yourself and what you believe is possible. There’s a little bit of the Walter Mitty about you now. Don’t be content with a dream world. Step out of your comfort zone and live the dream instead. Life is all about living and know id the time for you to just that Scorpio. Enjoy.
Get ready for a journey of self-discovery as an important phase begins that is likely to see you gaining something invaluable. This month marks the start of a cycle that isn’t about money, sex and success per se – but can include them on some level if they hold the keys to deeper self-revelations for you. Prepare to enter the realm of the spiritual, the magic, the unconscious – what the Australian Aborigines refer to as the ‘Dreamtime’. Make no mistake, the Dreamtime contains riches and success but these tend to be intangible assets. And they can last a lot longer than the material ones as they cannot be taken from us. Your next door neighbour Scorpio has just emerged from this cycle so if you want to know what it’s all about, ask someone born under that sign about what the past 12 months has brought them. This will give you some idea of what lies ahead. Of course, all spiritual journeys are tailored specifically for the soul in question, so yours will turn out to be a one-off but you may encounter similar themes. Positive visualisation may produce out-of-this-world results – if not now then in 12 months’ time. Get dreaming.
For the next 12 months it’s going to be about who you know as opposed to what you know. Your friends, groups, organisations, social and professional networks – all have a big part to play as does the internet. Time to expand your circle and if you have been thinking about joining a group or society – now is the time to do so. Unusual people may cross your path. These may be from a very different background, profession or area than those you normally associate with. They may even be larger-than-life, visionary or unusual in some way. If so, pay attention as they could have a larger role to play than what you first think. Accept all invitations that come your way and above all, let go of any preconceptions about whether or not something or someone is your ‘scene’ or ‘thing’. Life just wants to surprise you so please don’t get in its way. One new connection in particular which emerges during this period could have a profound effect on your future in one way or another. Have those business cards ready to hand out and if you don’t already have some, then perhaps now is the time to order them. Time to get connected to more – people, experiences and above all – opportunity.
Your career path, your ambitions, your status and your professional image are all in focus now. You’re in one of the best positions for 12 years to make serious inroads towards those goals. If you don’t like the career you’ve chosen or are no longer enjoying your role, then you’ll find it easier to change direction now than at any other time. Cultivate a success mindset. If you’ve just been drifting along from job to job, it’s now time to decide where you want to go and take steps towards it. Doors will open for you over the next 12 months – either with a better job or promotion opportunity or via training, upskilling or returning to education if that is what you need to do. People in positions of power and influence will be watching you so ensure you make a good impression as someone in a position of authority may offer that hand up the ladder. If your professional image needs updating then consider this a career investment and dress for success. Take your work and your skills seriously and you could just see those serious rewards follow. This is one cycle where that saying ‘You never get a second chance to make a first impression’ applies. Act accordingly. You are the CEO of You.Inc now.
‘I think there’s something you should know. I think it’s time I stopped the show. There’s something deep inside of me. There’s someone I forgot to be.’ George Michael’s Freedom lyrics contain an important message for you this month, Pisces. What dreams have you let go of? Have you become someone else just to please others? Who did you forget to be? Time to reclaim whatever that is as freedom calls. Travel, expansion, learning and opportunity beckon and its time you stepped into a bigger world or a bigger dream. Leave restrictions in the past and aim high. This cycle is all about having the courage to leave ‘safety’ and for want of a better way of putting it ‘Go boldly’. During the coming year you are going to be offered at least one opportunity to expand your horizons. Either through travel, learning or just discovering what you are capable of when it comes to realising those dreams. This cycle is all about going for it and understanding ‘Heaven helps those who help themselves’. It’s no use sitting back and waiting for things to happen. We have to take that first step towards our dreams.

TERRY SHAUGHNESSY Already well known as the talent, voice and songwriter responsible for The Universal, Terry Shaughnessy is back with a new album and concert on October 7 at the Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI in Estepona. Terry performs Brit Pop and classic British guitar music. He has enjoyed huge success both as a solo singer and with his band The Universal touring and performing at top festivals including Glastonbury, Oxygen and T in the Park. The Daily Mirror said his music “burns brightly with an intelligent passion and fuelled rhetoric that displays the bands working class roots proudly on their sleeves.” Marbella Rocks caught up with the music maestro to hear all about the singer, songwriter and his passions… music and who would have thought it – tea.
AT WHAT AGE DID YOU START WRITING AND PERFORMING YOUR OWN MUSIC? I’ve always written from an early age but started taking it more seriously in my early twenties. WHO WERE YOUR EARLY MUSICAL INFLUENCERS? The Beatles, Neil Young, Neil Finn…any good songwriters really. YOU HAVE PERFORMED AT TOP FESTIVALS INCLUDING GLASTONBURY AND T IN THE PARK – WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST OR BEST EVENT YOU HAVE PERFORMED AT AND WHY? All of those you mentioned are big events but sometimes the best events are not always about the size of the crowd. I’ve had the pleasure to support Joe Strummer, Ian Mclagan and The Zombies. They were big events for me personally. DO YOU GET NERVOUS PERFORMING IN FRONT OF SUCH BIG CROWDS? No I never get nervous. I get an adrenaline surge close to showtime because I’m itching to get on stage but I don’t get nervous.
for having large egos. I’m not like that. Obviously I believe in myself and what I do. But it’s about the songs and the craft for me. It’s not about chasing fame or being a rock and roll cliché. So I believe that if you are to serve the song and craft of songwriting you need to take your ego out of the equation. Then, equally I believe if you are going to do anything, you should do it with passion…. hence ‘Musician Minus Ego plus Fire.’
BEST THING ABOUT BEING IN MARBELLA? Sunshine and warmth. WORST THING? Drivers who never use their indicator.
IF YOU COULD ONLY TAKE THREE THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? Kettle, tea bags and milk. WHAT´S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR? Mastering the art of tea making. BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN? Don’t ever worry if people like your music or not. BEST CHARACTER TRAIT? Great tea making. MOST EMBARRASSING ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE? An Everton sock which our dog Buster likes to chew.
WHAT WOULD SAY IS YOUR MOST POPULAR TRACK OR BIGGEST CROWD PLEASER AND WHY? All my tracks are crowd pleasers….naturally! WORST HABIT? Being obsessive about tea making! CAN YOU EXPLAIN YOUR PERSONAL ETHIC OF ‘MUSICIAN MINUS EGO PLUS FRIDAY NIGHT OUT OR SUNDAY DAY IN? FIRE’? Sunday day in. I can. I guess musicians are renowned
