sampad: promoting excellence and access in south asian arts since 1990

Welcome to our summer season programme Sampad is thrilled to be part of an arts, culture & media consortium, which is leading Birmingham’s celebrations to mark 100 years of Indian cinema this summer. The city will be rolling out the red carpet in June, as the Bollywood 100 in Birmingham festival captures the glitz, glamour, music, dance, drama and style of one of the biggest film industries in the world, with a lively programme of events including activities for all the family.

Zeenat Aman

Indian cinema has enjoyed increasing popularity among global audiences, with the UK forming the biggest market outside India for Bollywood films, which frequently enter the mainstream top ten nationally. Several Indian films have been shot on location in Birmingham including forthcoming multi-starrer Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, which boosted the city’s local economy by £2.5 million. We’re delighted to be working with partner organisations across Birmingham and leading Bollywood stars to mark the achievements of the Indian film industry and to commemorate its prolific output, which is known and loved throughout the world. Our special thanks go to all of the Festival’s sponsors and funders, especially Arts Council England and Birmingham City Council. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook and Twitter feeds for news about all of our events and Bollywood 100 in Birmingham!

Best wishes, Piali Ray OBE, Director
