Update on Current Improvement Projects Great things are happening in the City of Good Living! Check out what’s to come in 2018‌ Highlands Park Playground and Restroom Renovation
The Highlands Park Renovation project will be wrapping up in the New Year. We are thrilled for the unveiling of the new playground, which will include an expanded playground, new and challenging climbing play features, an Oodle Swing, a seated sun deck, independent climbing pieces, rubber surfacing, and an upgraded pathway to Stadium Field. The new restroom building will increase capacity and include a family restroom. Look for information on our ribbon cutting ceremony in January! Burton Park Restroom Replacement
The new restroom building at Burton Park, adjacent to the playground and stage, will have increased capacity to accommodate our well-used park! The restrooms at the southend adjacent to Flanagan Field will undergo a complete renovation with new tile, counters and fixtures. Construction of the new and updated restrooms will begin in spring 2018 with an anticipated opening by summer 2018. Youth Center Remodel
Just shy of 20 years after the opening of the Youth Center, the
facility will undergo updates and improvements. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin spring 2018 and will include repair to the exterior wood fascia, window sealants and roof. The project also includes reconfiguration of the front desk, new lobby and hallway flooring, new gym bleachers, interior and exterior paint, restroom repairs and updated IT cabling throughout the building. Programs currently operating out of the Youth Center will be temporarily relocated to other facilities. Participates will receive more information on program relocation and operations after the New Year.

Recreation classes for little ones offer many benefits. Early exposure to music helps develop areas of the brain that involve language and reasoning. Students of the arts learn to think creatively and solve problems. Dance helps children mature physically, emotionally, and socially. Sports will build motor skills, teach responsibility and teamwork, and encourage a healthy lifestyle. Kids that are active are more likely to continue being active as they get older.

Youth Advisory Council What is the YAC?
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an all volunteer advisory council to the San Carlos City Council comprised of Middle School and High School Teens.
What types of projects do they do?
The YAC strengthens the image of community for our young people in San Carlos. We promote health and wellness in conducting workshops on teen issues and advise the City Council on youth-related programs. We foster human development by offering activities and events suggested by youth, for youth. The YAC does volunteer work throughout the community. The YAC helped fundraise and build the San Carlos Youth Center and continues to recommend ideas for ongoing programs and operations.

Get Fit to Travel
Exercise is an important part of the health and wellness of seniors. It helps increase your metabolism, energy levels, and alertness. Research shows that those suffering from chronic illness benefit from exercise even if it is done while sitting in a chair. Chair exercises are great for older adults, those with disabilities, poor balance, or anyone who has trouble standing or getting on the floor to do exercises. They are always gentle on the body and generally safe for most people to do. It is always a good idea to talk to your doctor before beginning a new exercise program, but you are not likely to injure yourself doing any of these exercises. Bring a 5 lb. dumbbell weight with you to the first class. Be sure to wear loose clothing and comfortable, supportive shoes. No cost. M/W/F 9:00am-10:00am Ongoing ACC
