Welcome It’s my pleasure to welcome Sir John Peace, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Lady Peace, and our Sponsors, Partners, Guests and Friends to the third East Midlands Women’s Awards (EMWA). EMWA was founded on the truths that everyone has something of value to contribute and that creating an equal playing field where this is recognised is the only way forward. Three years on I am even more convinced that this is still relevant and necessary.
National Small Law Firm of the Year 2018 The Law SocieTy exceLLence awardS
Proud Supporter of EMWA
This year has seen a 73% increase in nominations, on last year’s numbers. This tells me a few things: that there is a desire to place a spotlight on what women are doing; that more of us are prepared to draw those deserving women out of the shadows; women are seeing how important it is to be more open about their work and contribution; and the difference this can make to their likely success. I am grateful to our Judging Panel, who this year have
been Glynis Wright, Kevin Urquhart, Professor Turi King, Sonia Thompson, Helen Stewart, Pete Frost, Bev Sankey, Ron Simpson and Dr. Emma Parker. These experts have given their time to identify this year’s outstanding winners from the 109 nominations received. Not an easy task. I am indebted to them all. Thank you. We’ve achieved much this year to raise the profile of EMWA. This could not have been possible without the support we’ve received from our Sponsors and Partners. Huge thanks goes to our Headline Sponsor, Glynis Wright & Co. And to all our other sponsors DluXe Magazine, Mercia Image Print, Smilin Occasionz, Bev Sankey, Cosy Direct, Finance Lab, Colwick Hall, All Video Camera, WIMUK, Inspiring You CIC, Uppingham First, Cureton Consulting, Transformations Ltd, EMBBN and Open Mind Training & Development Ltd. Thanks also to our Hosts, Rupal Rajani and Dave Andrews, who skilfully managed to keep the evening moving and the celebrations coming. Finally, to you. Thank you for your nominations and for giving so generously to support this year’s chosen charity, ME & DEE. You are helping in their work to create lasting memories for families dealing with a terminal illness. Listen out to hear about our plans for 2020 and a wider view on celebrating women. Sandra Pollock – Founder, East Midland Women’s Awards (EMWA)
