Letter from the Executive Director Welcome to Salon! It is our pleasure to greet our exhibitors, regular attendees, new collectors and design enthusiasts to the 12th edition of Salon Art + Design. Salon is the only fair of its kind in New York. For the many collectors, designers, architects, curators, and enthusiasts who will pass through the heavy doors of the Park Avenue Armory, this year, we hope to exceed your expectations and that the hours spent roaming the aisles will provide inspiration, dialog, and excitement. This year visitors can expect to see some new material on the floor of the fair. For the first time, Salon has included jewelry in the mix, from substantial vintage pieces by Cartier, Tiffany, Bulgari and more to whimsical and colorful gem filled jewels, all creations of contemporary brilliance and creativity. In a year when neutral design palettes have reasserted themselves from the more highly colorful creations of the past few years, these tiny works of art bring a new dimension to the fair. Finally, we are pleased to introduce our first ever book dealer who comes to us from London with a sensational library of books on design. We’re also pleased to welcome three new art galleries all showing important works from the 20th and 21st centuries, painting and sculpture so complementary to the collectible design in which we have always specialized. Be sure to look for some interesting special exhibitions of tabletop collections, making their New York debut at Salon. There’s a collection of handmade trunks from India, the work of a great French interior designer, and our first ever book collection. Certainly there are familiar faces, galleries who have exhibited with us

Letter from the Executive Director over the past decade, who bring the material that is the core of the fair— collectible design in all its many forms. From Deco to mid-century to the present, Salon’s longtime friends bring top caliber work in all media and materials. I’d like to take a moment to the some of the many people who have made this year’s Salon possible. Jennifer Stark, our COO who is the voice of reason and balance, Nicky Dessources, our Director of Logistics and Operations who has worked with every participant to create a special look for each booth, Wendy Buckley, our Director of Partnerships, who ever expands our horizons, through creative programming. Jules Leonardos our communications director who oversees social media, Emilia Vincent, our Client Relations manager who has brought in our many new cultural and industry partners, Connor Cowden our graphic designer, who has created our subtly beautiful design, our exceptional PR team, Andrey Furmanovich and Melissa Olster, who keep Salon front of mind in the world press. Da Sul Kim, Percy Stogdon, and Zelia Lerch have all joined the Salon team this year in various capacities. Without the hard work and passion of this group, there would be no Salon as we know it. Finally, as always, our warmest thanks to Sandy Smith, without whom none of us would have our jobs.

ABASK - the destination for curated, collectible and unique objects founded by Tom Chapman and Nicolas Pickaerts - is delighted to announce its debut at Salon. ABASK will highlight exclusive pieces from world-renowned makers to shine a light on exceptional craftsmanship and design. Connecting people to the world’s most beautiful homedesign objects that celebrate time-honed techniques alongside innovation is ABASK’s modus operandi. ATELI ER FM

Atelier FM, founded by Brazilian designer Fabiana Machado, offers curated, collectible designs that reflect a sense of timeless elegance and opulent ease with an emphasis on highly executed craftsmanship. Focusing on creating forms of exquisite simplicity, their mission through every collection is to set the stage for a precise selection of sumptuous materials to speak for themselves. At the fair, Atelier FM will introduce its debut collection, “Continuous Series” 2023. As part of this eight-piece collection, each sculptural piece incorporates rectilinear, modernist lines that travel unrelentingly beyond inspection. Each material tone and finish is purposely selected to evoke a “tone-on-tone” aesthetic of stark neutrals in which no one element speaks louder than the other. All materials are interchangeable, designs are gracefully proportioned and silhouettes are deliberately discreet without lacking character and confidence, resulting in a timeless collection with a refined attitude.

CharlesZana

Charles Zana Mobilier, a furniture collection by Architect Charles Zana, features pieces with an exclusive, modern mood that is in keeping with great French traditions. With a solid training in the history of decorative arts, the architect often evokes memory and déjà vu to which he adds a contemporary twist. “Elegance, proportion and comfort” could sum up the philosophy of the furniture collection. He naturally uses his builder’s sense of scale and precise proportions in the furniture he designs. Precious materials and finishings done by exceptional craftsmen, many of whose skills have been passed down over generations, contribute to the proposal’s uniqueness. For the second consecutive year, Charles Zana Mobilier presents their unique pieces at Salon. With a poetic inventory of refined furniture, Charles Zana Mobilier presents coffee tables, a desk, chairs, a headboard and lights to offer a contemporary context that meet the sensibilities of furniture aficionados. The pieces are conceived in line with Zana’s decoration principles and focus on his demanding choices for harmonious materials, colors and volumes.

Cox London are artists and makers who have built an international reputation for creating elemental and remarkable pieces of lighting, furniture and artworks. At Salon, Cox London will present their unique pieces – providing the perfect balance of artistry, artifact, design and craftsmanship – for the first time in New York City. Christopher Cox, creative director and cofounder, comments on bringing new work and a site-specific chandelier to Salon: “The Magnolia Chandelier is inspired by nature but with fantastical elements. No two are ever the same. Cox london have created a special version, on a grand scale, for the entrance of Salon.”

DeMuro Das is an international design firm and the aesthetic and cultural coalescence of its founders, Brian DeMuro and Puru Das. Based in New Delhi and New York but drawing inspiration from around the world; precisely modernist but rooted in history; DeMuro Das believes in the quality of material, the value of collaboration, and the timeless nature of honest beauty. The firm also has a luxury furniture collection and will be launching four new collections at Salon Many of the pieces were created initially for the Founders’ home in Jor Bagh, New Delhi. The “Tempest” and “Clarion” collections are an extension and enhancement of the Gem and Demi Collection, which they launched last year. They wanted to continue the exploration of their work with semiprecious stones. Combined with the Badal Collection, the collections look similar but vastly differ in their techniques, while referencing India’s rich tradition of craft.

Operating through a circuit of ephemeral locations all over the world, the Spaceless Gallery looks beyond the walls of a traditional white cube space to provide an ever-changing experience for their artists, collectors, and designers. The gallery’s nomadic nature ties in with decentralized art programs that aim to establish fresh dialogues between the exhibition venue, the works, and the viewer, integrating all art forms, including music and performance art. At Salon, Spaceless Gallery will present a highly anticipated exhibition of new work from Humans since 1982, the Stockholm-based studio established in 2009 by Bastian Bischoff and Per Emanuelsson. Known for their fusion of art and technology, the artist duo will showcase “A Million Times 120,” a kinetic installation that captivates viewers with its seamless choreography of time and movement. Comprising 120 meticulously synchronized clock hands, the work explores the interplay between time, technology, and human perception. “ClockClockL (Tidal)” will make its New York City debut, consisting of analogue clock faces programmed through the studio’s custom combination of bespoke hardware and software.

Los Angeles-based artist James DeWulf has been widely recognized for his original and innovative work with concrete design. Known for his commitment to pushing the limits of his art both functionally and aesthetically, DeWulf fuses concrete technology with modern and natural concrete forms and other materials, including bronze, brass, steel, stainless steel, and iron. The “Exoskeleton” series by James DeWulf utilizes non-corrosive metals to reinforce concrete externally rather than internally and is inspired by the way things grow in nature. This series, which includes four new pieces debuting at Salon Art+Design, is a culmination of James’ 19 years of practice and his ability to push the boundaries of possibility within these mediums. Matthew Fisher of M. Fisher Studio will be debuting a new collection at Salon. The collection, “Elegy,” has been a year in the making and consists of his first furnishings and lighting carved from Brazilian quartzites and Middle Eastern onyxes, suspended and supported by dark bronze and burnished silver metalwork. The work is inspired by a trip he took to Volterra just outside Florence and artifacts found at the Museo Etrusco Guarnacci in the summer of ‘22. Beginning his process of design embedded in the anthropological study of ancient cultures, Fisher can distill modern designs that convey the ambiguity of time and place. This approach has become a central theme in Fisher’s repertoire of work, and the purposeful medium of metamorphic stone he chooses to craft with.

Operating through a circuit of ephemeral locations all over the world, the Spaceless Gallery looks beyond the walls of a traditional white cube space to provide a never-changing experience for both their artists, collectors, and designers. The gallery’s nomadic nature ties in with decentralized art programs that aim to establish fresh dialogues between the exhibition venue, the works, and the viewer, integrating all art forms, including music and performance art. From art curation to sourcing for private collectors and interior designers, the Spaceless Gallery showcases eclectic contemporary artists across all mediums in unique locations around the world. The gallery will be creating a special installation of art and design in the Armory’s South Hall, with artists that include Ruann Hoffman, whose work is shown below.

Born in 1974, Mathieu Lehanneur is one of the rare designers of his generation to be able to embrace such a wide range of creative fields. His approach is radically multidisciplinary, ranging from objects to architecture, from artworks to products, and from unique handcrafted pieces to cutting-edge technological works. His designs are inspired by nature, science, history, and technology. An avid proponent of experimentation and new creative territories, he collaborates with leading artisans and is involved in several startups in the fields of technology and urban mobility. Through his eponymous brand, Mathieu Lehanneur produces and distributes his creations worldwide. Alongside the Factory, where he develops and fabricates his ideas, he has opened his Pied-à-Terre in New York. In this hybrid and exclusive space, located in one of the city’s most beautiful skyscrapers, he creates a dialogue between his latest creations and his world. Mathieu Lehanneur is a key player in the French design scene and the winner of the City of Paris’s “Grand Prize for Creation.” Today, his works are held in the world’s most important public and private collections. Recently, Paris 2024 announced that it will partner with Lehanneur to create the Olympic and Paralympic torches and cauldrons, which are powerful symbols of the Games. The torch was unveiled earlier this year.

Silvia Furmanovich was born in São Paulo, Brazil, to a line of Italian goldsmiths – including her father, who taught her the importance of craftsmanship from a young age. Her journey began with fine jewelry, using vibrant colors, unusual materials, and wood marquetry to breathe life into each one-of-a-kind jewel. When she cast her creative alchemy to the home, she already had a wealth of knowledge and contacts to drive it forward. Each creation combines her attention to detail with her love for innovative craft stories. This year, Furmanovich will debut her “East/West” collection, born from a trip the designer took throughout several cities in Japan. The collection is a tribute to the many design traditions from the regions she encountered throughout her journey. Traditional Japanese motifs are reinterpreted through Furmanovich’s signature marquetry technique, realized by exceptionally talented craftsmen located in the Amazon rainforest. Furmanovich also incorporates Japanese craft traditions into her designs, including wood carvings by the Ainu – the indigenous people from Northern Japan, lacquerware, and bamboo weaving.

Thomas Cooper Studio represents a multilayered, multifaceted collaboration between owners & designers Sally and Jason Cooper. Materials and techniques join forces in a search for the inner poetry of each piece: heat-formed, mouth-blown, flash-cracked glass; carved marble, alabaster, and natural stone; cast and hand-patinated bronze; hand-polished, leaded crystal. At the same time, a study of sculptural expression creates a balance between shine and shade, density and delicacy, form and function.

Jaipur-based Trunks Company will make their US debut at Salon this year. Founded by Priyank and Paritosh Mehta, Trunks Company creates artisan, handmade, luxury trunks that bridge tradition and innovation. With a passion for craft, Trunks Company rethinks the art of trunk-making. A master craftsman is a part of each step of the trunk-making process, from casting brass hardware using the lost-wax technique to carving an inlay of teakwood to bring definition to the trunk’s framework. Each trunk is then hand-painted. At Salon, Trunks Company will debut many new creations, including the Pipe & Chess Bar Cabinet, an objet d’art that gracefully invites a discerning connoisseur to partake in the ritual of puffing a pipe while engaging in a game of chess. They will also showcase a new Game Island Trunk, a trunk that unfolds to offer traditional board games that have withstood the test of time, including chess, backgammon, Jenga, ludo, poker, and more.

Charles Zana Our method reveals our know-how. Projects insert themselves in a dialogue with the space, the location, and the clients. Thanks to the generosity of architect Charles Zana, the agency’s unique impulse is to treat each project as a humane and artistic adventure that offers a lifestyle philosophy. French traditions and culture are the foundation of Charles Zana’s creative commitment. At his office in the heart of the historic Paris Saint-Germain des Prés neighborhood, he welcomes clients with a cultivated elegance and an open mind. The subtle balance of his projects is enriched by a slightly shifted twist: “audaciousness within a certain classicism.” His team of specialists is broken down into different areas: architecture, decoration, the hotel trade, artistic creations, and furniture design that together cover the broad spectrum of the architect’s involvement. 13 Rue de Seine Paris, Ile de France, 75006 France agence@zana.fr 3301 45 48 05 25 www.zana.fr

Humans since 1982 Presented by the Spaceless Gallery Stockholm-based studio Humans since 1982 was established in 2009 by Bastian Bischoff (b. 1982, Germany) and Per Emanuelsson (b. 1982, Sweden). With a diverse and complex practice that traverses art, design, and technology, Humans since 1982 defy easy categorization. Their provocative sculptures and experiential installations are driven by a shared curiosity and desire to make sense of the world. The studio is co-owned with engineer David Cox (b. 1983, Australia) and comprises a growing multidisciplinary team of international specialists. Imagined, engineered, and created within a warehouse studio in an industrial part of Stockholm, Sweden, everything that leaves the Humans since 1982 studio door is hand-assembled on-site by the studio team. The Spaceless Gallery is a neo-gallery where collaborations are at the heart of the gallery’s activities - operated through an ever-growing circuit of ephemeral locations all over the world. The gallery's nomadic nature ties in with decentralized art programs that aim to establish fresh dialogues between the exhibition venue, the works, and the viewer integrating all art forms, including music and performance art.

A million Times 120 is crafted and milled in a stone like solid surface material and available in either white or black.

From art curation, to sourcing for private collectors and interior designers, the Spaceless Gallery showcases eclectic contemporary artists across all mediums in unique locations around the world. We welcome all cross-industry collaborations as the gallery continues to push boundaries in art and collecting. The Spaceless Gallery presents Pierre Bonnefille, Olga Sabko, and Ruan Hoffmann. Recognized as a “Maître d’art” by the French Ministry of Culture, Pierre Bonnefille’s artistic journey revolves around the inseparable triptych of materials, colors, and light. Skillfully crafting his own materials from nature’s bounty, he creates polychromatic canvases that evoke reflections and harmonies, appearing to move with the dance of light. Beyond painting, Bonnefille’s complete mastery extends to leading large-scale projects that blend contemporary art and interior design, leaving an enduring mark through immersive and sensorial environments. From ceramic earthenware, Ruan Hoffmann chooses familiar objects such as plates as his canvases. The resulting works are willful, irregular and misshapen forms on which the artist’s unedited observations on life’s experiences flow in constant, noisy glimpses of thought. Hoffmann adorns the surfaces of his plates with a vast array of images and text that can be unapologetic, politically confrontational, improper and even sometimes rude. It is work that is unashamedly loud, uncompromising and exhilarating. Olga Sabko’s sculptures embody time’s fleeting essence and her personal connection with it. They exude perpetual motion, existing in an uncertain space-time and deliberately remain raw and unfinished, allowing the medium to speak for itself. Her creative process is defined by experimentation and an intuitive connection with materials, resulting in poetic, organic forms. This philosophy extends to her lithographic work, reflecting the spatio-temporal essence of creation through intuition and happenstance.
