MUSIC AND LIBRETTO BY MARK ADAMO
JUNE 19 –JULY 7 SPECIAL ANCILLARY EVENTS
T he Opera Drawing from ancient texts and modern scholarship, renowned composer/librettist Mark Adamo re-imagines the story of Jesus and the people closest to him—including the misunderstood woman who loved him most dearly and heard his message most clearly. A “brilliant theater composer” (The New Yorker), Adamo writes “music of beauty and emotional accessibility” (San Francisco Chronicle). Soprano Sasha Cooke brings her “lustrous and evocative singing” (San Francisco Chronicle) to the title role, with baritone Nathan Gunn, “a born actor” who “sings as if speaking the words” (The New York Times), portraying Yeshua (Jesus). Rounding out the cast as Miriam is soprano Maria Kanyova, a “superb singing actress” (Opera News), and bringing his “soaring, silvery charisma” (San Francisco Chronicle)
to the role of Peter is tenor William Burden.
