Music Director Nicola Luisotti opens the 2012–13 Season with two incredible casts in our classic production of Verdi’s Rigoletto. He goes on to conduct NICOLA LUISOTTI Lohengrin, his first Wagner opera in San Francisco, before closing the fall season with not just one, but two, of today’s leading Toscas: Angela Gheorghiu and Patricia Racette. In the summer, he leads a bright, young ensemble cast in Così fan tutte. We look forward to another great season guided by his musical leadership. Other highlights include the extraordinary Natalie Dessay portraying all four heroines in The Tales of Hoffmann, as well as a beautiful new production of The Capulets and the Montagues with stunning costumes designed by French fashion icon Christian Lacroix and starring the incomparable Joyce DiDonato. I am also pleased to present Jake Heggie’s powerful new opera Moby-Dick, as well as the world premiere of Mark Adamo’s The Gospel of Mary Magdalene. The Secret Garden, our family co-production with Cal Performances, will be the perfect way to introduce young people to the opera. The title role is sung by Brandon Jovanovich, “a first-rate Wagner tenor” (San Francisco Chronicle) who was an electrifying Siegmund in Die Walküre (2011). As his doubtplagued bride, soprano Camilla Nylund “evokes an affecting degree of dreamy distance in Elsa’s account of her mysterious savior” (Gramophone). If changing your series or section, please list an alternate series or section, in case your first choice is not available. Checks will be deposited immediately and credit cards will be charged for the FULL value of your FIRST CHOICE or the FULL value of your first payment if you have chosen a payment plan. This is not a guarantee of seating. If your final seat assignment is your alternate choice, we will automatically refund or charge the difference due, as appropriate. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate seating requests, however we cannot guarantee the availability of seating in any section or price level. If we cannot seat you in any of your choices, we will contact you to discuss an alternate section, seat, package or a full refund.
