Dear guests, The Faroe Islands are the unknown gem of the North Atlantic Ocean with only 48,000 inhabitants. Yet, we warmly welcome international conferences to 5 star facilities. In our tiny island country you are far away from the buzz and stress of everyday life. The peace and quiet here will unleash you from the clock and from your calendar. Here the open horizons will feed your mind with new and fresh ideas and thoughts. After conference hours, our 60 million year old natural park awaits you. Mother Nature will challenge you, enlighten you and tease you beyond your imagination.
The Faroe Islands are far away from big city life. Yet, we are only 2-3 hours from continental Europe. I am proud of the versatility that our country can offer our foreign guests. Welcome! Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands

Welcome to Tórshavn
VisitFaroeIslands & VisitTórshavn
Welcome to the city of Tórshavn It is with pride I welcome conference visitors to the Capital of The Faroe Islands. Tórshavn is one of the World’s smallest capitals. Nevertheless the city offers all that a major city or capital does, various cultural and sports activity, a diversity of high street shops, a vibrant business community, hotels, restaurants and much more. Tórshavn is
thus a modern city that is continuously developing and growing.
on stones tred by Viking chieftains a 1000 years ago.
Even though the capital is a modern city, there are many living reminders of old days that bring a unique energy to the more historical sections of the town. In Tórshavn, the old and the new rub shoulders all the time, especially in the city centre where it is still easy to find yourself standing
We sincerely hope you will all get an instructive and useful advantage of your stay and to each and every visitor, we extend a warm welcome to our Capital. Heðin Mortensen Mayor

Top 5 1.Nature
The Faroe Islands has unique scenery. A combination of hard rocks, velvety green grass, and dramatic waterfalls. A stunning picture painted in green and blue colors, where your eyes can stretch from the top of a mountain over the endless surrounding ocean at any one time.
2. The Island Culture
The Faroe Islands are remote and isolated, and so the ocean has served as a great defense against dilution of the islands’ original culture. There are many wonderful examples of the original culture. For instance the national costume and the language rooted in the Nordic languages - but a very unique language in its own right.
3. The authenticity
Many destinations seem to be getting more alike, the contrast to the Faroe Islands becomes even greater. There is no pre-determined route, no fence to stand behind and no plastic signs telling you what to see and feel. Absorbing reality, as it is in the Faroe Islands, almost forces you to look within yourself to discover who YOU really are.
4. The remoteness
The Faroe Islands may be close in distance but are far, far from everyday life. Far from stressful obligations. Far from traffic jams and crowds. Far from normality and everyday routines.
5. The involvement
It is often said that the Faroe Islands have no tourists - only guests. People are welcoming and open, and nature invites everyone to participate. The nature is not just something you look at. It’s a place for being – for hiking, painting, angling, diving, sailing and absorbing.

Must Do’s 1. A boat trip with the old wooden vessel Norðlýsið is one of the top things to do after conference hours. Nature continues to surprise people during these trips, while puffins are skimming the waves, seals are basking on cliffs and a school of whales follow the vessel closely. 2. Kirkjubø is the ancient cultural and religious center of the Faroe Islands. Only 15 minutes by bus from Tórshavn, guests will relive the proud history of the Faroe Islands in amazingly preserved buildings, inhabited by the welcoming Patursson family, who has lived there for generations.
offer Faroese food or New Nordic Food as á la carte or as banquet dinners. The restaurant KOKS is listed as one of the 5th best restaurants in the Kingdom of Denmark. 4. A scenic road trip up north to the charming and tiny village of Gjógv opens possibilities for an active day in the mountains, on the sea or simply by being a part of the village life. Here you can go on a treasure hunt or have other teambuilding activities.
Feel the history of these walls, while you enjoy a traditional dinner with organic lamb meat from the farm in the famous Roykstova in the evening.
5. Wander in the maze of lanes in the old town of Tórshavn, Tinganes, between the little houses, alleys and rocky paths.
3. Explore the taste of the Faroe Islands in a restaurant, exiting venue or an open air dinner. Excellent restaurants

Infrastructure The infrastructure in the Faroe Islands is excellent. There is a good network of highways, tunnels, and mountain roads. Bus and car rental is easy and even taxi drivers are popular guides for smaller groups. The network of ferries between the islands is excellent and different boats and vessels are ready to take smaller and larger groups on boat tours for fishing, bird watching, diving and grotto concerts. Even helicopters can take you between the islands or high upon mountain tops.

In fact, if one has a particular interest in wool, the city centre may well be the hub of woollen goods, ranging from traditional jumpers and the national costume, to designer knitted sweaters from the high-fashion brand, Guðrun & Guðrun, also famous from the Danish TV series “Forbrydelsen” (The Killing). SMS - the largest shopping mall in the Faroe Islands - caters to general consumer needs regarding both
goods and experience. Here, you can find everything from popular clothing and shoes, to coffee and grocery shops. Other than the great selection of products in the various stores, SMS is seen as the place where people get together, also for lunch in the diverse eateries. Tax-free shopping is often available both at SMS and downtown, and the friendly service ensures that the shopping experience is a pleasant one.

Take for instance a pleasant coffee break next to the colourful buildings and boats by the Marina, or pay a visit to Etika, the renowned Faroese sushi restaurant offering world class sushi, famous beyond the Nordic borders. If the urge for a pulsating night life occurs, the city of Tórshavn also offers a variety of bars and night clubs with live music. History The Nordic House in the Faroe Islands opened on May 8th, 1983. The Nordic House is indeed a versatile building that lends itself as the leading cultural house and an international 5 star conference centre - the best in the Faroe Islands - making it possible to rent facilities for congresses, meetings and receptions. The Nordic House’s official aim is “to support and promote Nordic and Faroese culture, locally and in the Nordic region”. However the building is likewise intended for use as a conference centre – a function that in 2008 was set to play a more prominent part with the add-on of a brand new conference section with top quality facilities, which highly reflected the growing demand coming from foreign as well as Faroese clients.

Beverages You will find excellent local beers in the Faroe Islands. There are two breweries one near Tórshavn called Okkara and one in Klaksvík, called Føroya Bjór. It is possible to visit the breweries and see the production with a guide. Also exceptional liqueur is produced based on the pristine Faroese spring water, such as the strongest aquavit in the world and award winning vodka and gin.
“Gastronomy on the Faroe Islands is in perfect harmony with its environment. The style is minimalist, serene and respectful. The taste of its raw ingredients is so powerful that any addition is unnecessary. Compositions are sublime, exact and have a very clean flavour. It has to be tricky to create dishes that can do justice to all the local ingredients and elevate these to ranks of brilliance.” Maria Canabal, The Faroe Islands: the the best conservationistional pantry in the world
The quality in the spring water is exceptional since it is filtered through the basalt mountains and renowned for its clarity and delicate taste. You can enjoy the fresh and delicate water right from the tap.

undiscovered The Faroe Islands have a unique feeling of “real”. Nature is the only true ruler, and the humbling effect of nature so strong is evident in the islands’ culture. This is in many ways the opposite of Disney Land: In the Faroe Islands nothing is set up - everything is original. There is no pre-determined route, no fence to stand behind and no plastic signs telling you what to see and feel. Absorbing reality, as it is in the Faroe Islands, almost forces you to look within yourself to discover who YOU really are.

Hiking The Faroe Islands have a great variety of routes for both experienced and inexperienced adventurers. You need not go far to enjoy unexplored and unspoiled nature, and en route you will also encounter many of the interesting places connected to Faroese history and traditions. A large number of ancient village paths are marked by cairns, so you can easily explore the valleys and mountains on your own. You can also join a professional guide, who can tell you authentic and often dramatic stories about the Faroese ancestors, who have followed the same paths.

Boat trips The Faroe Islands are surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean, and therefore a boat trip is always an adventure. Nature continues to surprise people during these trips - puffins skimming the waves, seals basking on cliffs, a school of whales or a flock of rare seabirds following the boat closely.
On a boat trip you may feel even closer to nature - and experience her unspoiled beauty. There is no guarantee of what you will see in advance, but you will have the experience of a lifetime. Amongst the many types of boat trips, you can choose from: fishing, bird watching or even try the unforgettable Conserto Grotto.

Bird watching The cold Arctic currents that merge with the warm Gulf Stream in the waters of the Faroe Islands result in a particularly rich food environment for nesting seabirds. Ornithologists have identified approximately 300 species of birds in the Faroe Islands. So if it is love you are searching for, let’s just say that 2 million birds can´t be wrong. It is possible to get quite close to the birds either by boat along and under the majestic bird cliffs, or just by walking in nature. In the Faroe Islands you will also have the opportunity to visit the world’s largest Storm Petrel colony during a night-time trip to the island of Nólsoy.

Fishing & angling When setting off between the islands and sailing out to the fishing grounds, you are rediscovering ancient times. You feel the glory of nature and hear the sounds, see the colors and experience the smells that are unlike other fishing spots around the world. If you prefer angling, there are also many opportunities. Concen¬trating solely on the movement of the rod and nature’s im¬pression; and then of course, there is nothing like the taste of a fresh fish, you have caught yourself. When you encounter sheer isolation in the midst of such a beautiful landscape you are creating your own untold story.

Of course, you will be able to participate and learn the dance moves, feeling the rhythm of the Faroe Islands.
