Site area: 1432.89 sq. ft.

Client: Mr. Prakash Dahal

The concept of the residence is modern and contemporary. Because the roadsides are narrow and the house is attached to the adjacent houses, the exterior features edgy elements and large windows. To provide ample light inside the house, large windows and skylights are fitted. The colour palette is neutral, consisting of white, grey, and wood tones. Paints, plaster grooving, shera board, toughened glass balcony, and glass windows were used. The use of different materials and elements enhances the facade.

MY INVOLVEMENT:

I was involved in the design of the facade as well as the municipal drawing. I did some research on facade design and treatments. As per the client’s requirement, I conceptualised the design to give it an edgy look. Under the supervision of my supervisor, I drew municipal drawings of both architecture and structure. The municipal drawing is completed to submit for approval to build and contains basic drawings that are required to understand how the building will be built and how it will look. The architecture drawing portrays the spaces contained by the building as well as the exterior of the building. The structure drawing conveys the requirements and process of constructing the building.

Location Map

For municipal drawing; Architecture:

• First sheet must contain location map, site plan, triangulation area, door window schedule, one floor plan, one elevation and one section.

• If the site area is less than 1 ropani then the drawings is in scale of 1/8”=1’.

• If the site area is more than 1 ropani then the drawings except site are is in scale of 1/8=1” and site area in 1/16=1’.

• Architecture drawing requires location map, site plan, triangulation area, door window schedule, all floor plans, all elevations and all sections.

• It also requires electrical and sanitary drawings.

For municipal drawing;

Structure:

• Footing plan and it’s detail.

• All floor column plans and their’s details.

• All floor beam plans and theirs’s details.

• All floor slab plans and their’s details.

• Staircase details

WHAT I LEARNT?

• To make a lively facade, a lot of experimentation on forms, colours and materials is needed to create balance and a sense of hierarchy.

• Different facade strategies

• Site constraints are inevitable so they should be cleared beforehand designing.

• Importance of client’s approval.

• Preparation of municipal drawings and their requirements.

• Drafting skills improvement.

• Proper use of materials, textures and design elements.
