Art, Crafts and Hobbies Forged/Welded: Sandhill Crane
Dive into the world of metal with this multiprocess class. Day one, a visit to Leslie Tharp’s blacksmithing shop for a crash course into forging fundamentals. Learn to hammer hot steel on an anvil while texturing and forming the parts needed to create your sculptural Sandhill Crane. Day two, we meet at Santa Fe’s welding shop to attach our forged pieces and create the finished crane. During our time at Santa Fe, we’ll work on using MIG welding techniques. This three-session course will provide students with an intro to MIG welding and how to identify and prepare found metal for welding. Students will begin with a small guided project and are then encouraged to experiment and build with various found materials provided. Students are encouraged to bring their unique scrap metal but must first review the instructor’s materials - only non-painted, non-galvanized carbon steel is acceptable. No cast iron.

Sports Beginner’s Disc Golf
This class will teach you the fundamentals of throwing a disc a distance and on target while also learning how to putt accurately. Disc golf is played on a course like traditional golf, but it uses the natural environment, and the targets are positioned between, within, or around trees to increase the challenge. Instead of clubs, you use different specially designed frisbees and plastics. There’s no hole in the ground; the target is a metal basket with chains that slow down the disc. You may drop a class and receive a full refund by calling the Community Education office DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION TERM for any class two weeks or longer in length.
