PROGRAMS

CONSTRUCTION AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS

Santa Fe College’s Construction and Technical programs provide a wide range of opportunities to enhance your current employment or prepare you for a career in an industrial occupation such as construction, automotive service, HVAC, welding, electrical, plumbing or carpentry. Upon completion of your Construction and Technical program, you will be a skilled or semi-skilled worker in one of these areas. Many of the Construction and Technical programs are housed in SF’s Charles R. Perry Construction Institute (Building O) on the Northwest Campus. The Perry Construction Institute provides a laboratory and shop setting to develop your skills, hands-on. In addition to practical training, traditional classroom work includes technical-related theory, safety, mathematics and science.

CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES DEFINED CERTIFICATE Certificate programs offer postsecondary adult vocational courses to prepare you for entry directly into employment. Certificates do not require 60 credit hours of college course work. However, students must meet specific basic skills requirements in English, math and writing. A certificate typically takes six months to two years to complete.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program is designed to prepare you for a career, but in some cases it may transfer to a bachelor’s program. A.S. programs provide a good balance of general education coursework and hands-on training with the end goal to enter the workforce. The A.S. degree typically takes two years to complete and leads to the bachelor’s degree.

CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS LAY THE FOUNDATION WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Over the years, Habitat for Humanity, Santa Fe College and the Builders Association of North Central Florida have worked together to produce one Habitat House per year in the Charles R. Perry Construction Institute. The house is built in conjunction with students from the following programs; Santa Fe College Construction Management program and the Apprenticeship program which teaches HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Carpentry trades. The house is built into the curriculum of each of these programs. An A.S. degree in Building Construction Technology gives graduates the technical skills required in the industry, blended with management training. Graduates are comfortable both in the office environment and on the job site. Students studying to enter the fields of carpentry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing, work alongside crews from Habitat as well as the family who will ultimately become the home’s new owners to construct the new facility.
