DEGREES and CERTIFICATES DEFINED Associate in Arts (A.A.) degrees are transfer degrees that prepare students to transfer into a bachelor’s degree. A.A. degrees include 60 semester hours of college credit courses with a minimum of 36 general education credits. Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees are career and technical degrees that prepare students for entry into the workforce. A.A.S. degrees include a minimum of 15 general education college credits. Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees are career and technical degrees that prepare students for entry into the workforce or transfer into a similar bachelor’s degree. A.S. degrees include a minimum of 15 general education college credits. Advanced Technical Certificates (A.T.C.) are advanced specialized career and technical certificates for students who have already received and A.S. or A.A.S. degree. These certificates can consist of nine to 45 college credits depending on the program. Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) and Bachelor of Sciences (B.A.S.) degrees prepare students for the workforce. Bachelor’s degrees require 120 of college credits, including 36 general education credits and foreign language. College Credit Certificates (C.C.C.) are career and technical certificates that are part of an A.S. or A.A.S. degree program. These certificates prepare students for the workforce and are less than 60 college credits in length. Career and Technical Certificates (C.T.C.) are career and technical certificates that prepare students for entry into the workforce. These certificates require an established number of skills-based clock hour classroom hours per program.
