PERRY CENTER FOR EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
Santa Fe College
PERRY CENTER Opened in 2009, the Charles R. and Nancy V. Perry Center for Emerging Technologies is located in Alachua, Florida, in the heart of Florida’s high tech corridor, about 13 miles from Santa Fe College’s Northwest Campus. Charles and Nancy Perry began dreaming of a center to serve citizens of northern Alachua County when they recognized the positive impact SF’s Blount Center had on accessible education in East Gainesville. The Perry Center fulfills that dream of providing a college education close to home for these community members. The Perry Center focuses specifically on emerging technology degrees. The center is equipped with cutting-edge laboratories and state-of-the-art technology classrooms. The Perry Center is intentionally located near Santa Fe High School, which offers a biotechnology program that articulates to the SF Biotechnology A.S. degree, and is across the street from Progress Corporate Park. Progress Park is a growing industrial park anchored by the University of Florida’s UF Innovate | Sid Martin Biotech facility.
CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES DEFINED CERTIFICATE Certificate programs offer career and technical courses to prepare you for entry directly into employment. Certificates do not require 60 credit hours of college course work. However, students must meet specific basic skills requirements in English, math and writing. A certificate typically takes six months to two years to complete.
ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE DEGREE The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program is designed to prepare you for a career, but in some cases it may transfer to a bachelor’s program. A.S. programs provide a good balance of general education coursework and hands-on training with the end goal to enter the workforce. The A.S. degree typically takes two years to complete and leads to the bachelor’s degree.

BACHELOR’S DEGREE A bachelor’s degree is the highest degree you can achieve in undergraduate education. Santa Fe College offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) degrees in certain program areas. For most, a bachelor’s degree at SF is the next step after obtaining an A.A. or an A.S. degree. It allows students to continue to build skills and advance in a career field. A bachelor’s degree typically requires two additional years after completing an A.A. or A.S. degree.

PERRY CENTER ACTIVITIES STEM Fest Together with the Research in Undergraduate Education initiative, the Perry Center hosts a two-day STEM Fest annually in November. Santa Fe College students and area high schools are invited to display posters showcasing their accomplishments in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and math). In the evening, the festival features a guest speaker from a STEM discipline.
STEM Summer Camp Each summer, Santa Fe College invites rising ninth graders in Alachua and Bradford Counties to apply for a free, weeklong STEM day camp at the Perry Center. Campers have fun with hands-on activities in rocketry, earth and water sciences, DNA science, energy resources and emerging technologies. The STEM camp is paid for by funds granted under the federal Carl D. Perkins Act.
School Tours The Perry Center provides tours for middle and high schools on request. Additionally, high school biotechnology classes are invited to spend the day working with faculty on specialized techniques.
Sci-Fun Night One day a semester, the faculty and staff invite the local community to learn about the programs at the center through hands on activities and presentations. All ages are welcome and activities will vary according to age groups. There is no charge for this event. 12
