Veterans Bridge Scholarship Building the Bridge from Boots to Books
Veterans Bridge Scholarship For years, veteran advisors at Santa Fe College and the University of Florida watched the turnaround time for the students’ first GI Bill checks range anywhere from 30 to 90 days. During that waiting period, they saw those veterans struggling with rent, bills and tuition costs. In 2008, under the leadership of LTG John Le Moyne, US Army (retired) and John Gebhardt, a veterans advocate for both SF and UF, a steering committee was formed to help find a solution for this challenging waiting period. From those initial conversations, the Veterans Bridge Scholarship was created. An initial $200,000 was raised to endow 11 scholarships, each awarded annually to a deserving student veteran.
Today that number has expanded to 30 scholarships, with the help of individuals and organizations who share the goal of aiding veterans with their first step in academic success: • LTG John Le Moyne VB
