Directors’ Letter
Dear Residents We are thankful for the overwhelming response the citizens have given to the Crossings Republik’s flagship magazine,
Crossings Insight. It gives us loads of satisfaction and pleasure that we were able to catch your imagination and emerge as the official platform for reporting the activities organised at Crossings Republik. Be it Durga Puja, Dussehra, Chhath or Diwali, active participation during the festival celebrations by one and all at Crossings clearly outlines the vibrancy and energy of its citizens. We intend carrying forward this tradition of organising various social and cultural activities at regular intervals in the township and will always look forward to our contribution and cooperation. On infrastructural front, we are proud of having thrown open Crossings Lake View Arcade, a public plaza, in line with international standards for its residents as also the inauguration of the Golf Academy wherein we will sponsor five budding golfers in near future. However, we want more and more residents to come forward and use this platform to its fullest as such facilities are not available at your doorsteps in most other townships. Also opening shortly will be the second connectivity from Greater Noida side which will bring Manoj Gaur Whole Time Director Crossings Republik
Crossings Republik closer to Delhi.

We look forward to your valuable inputs to make this community initiative a big success and await your suggestions on wtd@crossings.in.

Editor’s Letter
Dear Reader The second edition of Crossings Insight is now in your hands. First of all, we thank you, the elite residents of Crossings Republik, for the overwhelming response for the inaugural issue. Through this magazine, we aim not only to give you an insight into the various activities held at CR but also a flavour of entertainment, health, lifestyle, etc. This issue, once again, carries an eclectic mix of articles for leisure read with a dose of informative content. The last quarter at Crossings Republik witnessed a lot of events that took off from the Durga Puja celebrations and ended with Diwali. We highlight these in our lead story, Festive Revelry. In the Conversation section, we meet Moti Lal who teaches golf at our academy and get to know more about the state-of-the-art Golf Club that saw the light of the day recently. The Well-Being section guides you on the importance of a good night’s sleep. Get to know more about winter spices and their anti-inflammatory benefits through our Food pages and the history behind the Hindon River which you cross every day to get to your workplace along with many more stories. Morning raga Over 200 students from various educational institutions in and around Crossings Republik participated in a Prabhat Pheri organised on August 15, before the tallest National Flag was hoisted in Uttar Pradesh. The Prabhat Pheri, organised in association with CROMA, commenced from GH-7, passed through the Golf Course, Crossings Circle before culminating at the Glass Gate. It was a spectacular sight to witness students from Ryan International School, Ghaziabad; Gurukul Academy, Ghaziabad and Modern Public School, Saberi, waving the National Flags, wearing Tricolour armed bands on their wrists and Tricolour lapels on their chests. All the participating students were awarded appreciation certificates.

Chhath celebrated The residents of Crossings Republik offered araghya near the Golf Course pond on the occasion of the holy festival of Chhath. Around 30 vratis completed this ritual even as hundreds of others from the township thanked Surya, the sun god, for sustaining life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes. The rituals of the festival are rigorous and observed over four days. They include holy bathing, fasting and abstaining from drinking water (vratta), standing in water for long periods of time, and offering prasad (prayer offerings) and aragh to the setting and

GGV achieved the target, losing only two wickets and with two overs to spare. The trophy, won by GGV, will be kept at the club for all to see. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for both the teams as well as the residents who were present in large numbers to watch the match and cheer the teams, irrespective of the housing society they belonged to. Given the success of the match, it was felt that more such events be organised between the societies to encourage more and more residents to move out of their static daily routine and participate in these events and re-live their childhood. Games for kids will be also planned.

Sliced or grated, ginger awakens the flavours of chicken, meat, and fish. Ginger contains some of the most powerful natural antiinflammatory substances known. Ginger extracts and teas have been used to treat arthritis, vertigo, migraine headaches, and various digestive problems, especially nausea. Turmeric: This mild Indian spice has been scientifically studied for its protective effects against inflammation and cancer. Medicinal uses of turmeric include the healing of stomach ulcers and the relief of oxidative, free-radical stress in patients with inflammation.

Turmeric is on top of the list of spices. This Indian spice is considered as a natural antibiotic. A host of medical studies claim that its antiinflammatory action is sometimes better than cortisone and phenylbutazone treatment. One can also add it to milk or honey in order to avoid cough. Cinnamon, one of the oldest known spices, is on the second position. It can stimulate blood circulation, thus inducing warmth in body. It is the perfect spice for the cold climate as

a major way here. And when there is a mention of golf, there are a few names taken with respect and awe and one of them is Moti Lal. Most of us know Moti Lal as the man who started the Golf Academy at Crossings Republik to impart training to golf enthusiasts but not many are aware of his lineage. Lal’s family has been in the business and teaching the sport for the last six generations and that he acquired a diploma from the Professional Golfers Association, London way back in 1977. Alongside training golf enthusiasts, Moti Lal runs a business of golf products and has workshops equipped with the latest machinery for repairing golf clubs and other related items. The man, who visits USA to hold training camps regularly, is quite enthusiastic about the prospects of the golf course at CR. His belief on the golf course being successful is based on the fact that Golf is increasingly being taken up by more and more people in India. Looking at the course at CR, he says it is just like any cantonment course. “In fact, it is the best course, especially because its area is not too big,” he adds. Moti Lal’s great grandfather, Ram Jatan, was once a farmer in Bihar who migrated to Shillong in search of better future.
24
He happened to settle near a golf course there. Over time, he started frequenting the course and learned the game. And then he took to teaching golf to locals. As he grew older, he passed on the baton to his son, Kishun. During that period, a large number of Britishers played at the course and they happened to notice his talent. So

Interesting incident on the course: • Once I was teeing off at Noida Golf Course when a six-seven feet snake sneaked in between my legs. It freaked me out though it didn’t harm me or anyone around. However, the feeling in itself is creepy. • His father, Hira Lal trained the first Asian circuit winner PG Sethi popularly known as ‘Biloo’ Sethi, all the Service chiefs, Dr Fakruddin Ali Ahmed, President of India (1974-77) and GS Pathak, Vice President of India (1969-74).

WHY IS SLEEP ESSENTIAL? •
Sleep aids weight loss: Sleep regulates levels of ghrelin, the hormone that makes you feel hungry and leptin, the hormone that makes you feel full. The better rested you are, the clearer your head and the more balanced your hormones.
•
Sleep is a stress reliever: If you keep regular sleep hours, you’re better equipped to deal with any stress that may arise. Just by being rested, you’re automatically calmer.
•
Sleep aids anti-ageing: When one sleeps well the body temperature lowers. This conservation of energy means that one’s body is able to concentrate its energies on rejuvenating tissue, growth and repair.
•
Sleep helps in better memory: Remember all that last minute cramming you’d do
