CONCEPT Publication or series of publications designed for students to take away from induction: - Already had the induction so not an instruction manual - Filled with considerations that should be taken into account when using printing method eg. Stock considerations. - Understand the process but there is a lot more to think about other than that. - Divided into sections that focus on different areas - Selection of do’s and don’t’s/tips for a process, what will make it easier/faster/more effective. - Designed to be given out at the end of induction of a process to carry around/refer to while printing or in preparation for printing. - Identify format, which print methods work best in which format, which are most cost efficient, how to achieve desired effect etc. - Potentially include set of more miscellaneous products for the student to use decoratively/as reference. - For first time printers who have only just learnt about the process and don’t feel they know enough to go ahead and do it (learning from mistakes theme).

METHOD OF DELIVERY I am to make the methods of printing that I will focus on appear to be an everyday activity, in order to make it more comfortable for the user. I will do this by making it approachable and easy to use as reference. I also need to consider the format as it would be most ideal for the user to be able to carry t around while printing: - Considered a magazine about print - not ideal to use in the print room, too fussy - A set of pocket sized booklets, each focusing on different print processes. - Simple layout to keep informal and friendly while remaining to-thepoint - will simplify the process to the user. - Ensure it’s not just any old guidebook - don’t be instructional and allow user to use it for tips. - Show alternatives to each printing method eg, a ‘do it at home’ option.

PRODUCTION

Booklet content: - Considerations when using particular method of printing - Stock; what stocks are most compatible with which print methods. - Format; which methods are most appropriate when considering size, scale or placement of design. - Cost efficient methods of printing. - Processes - foiling, embossing, screen printing, digital print. - diagramatic illustrations to accompany text in each booklet giving instructions without actually giving them. Stock: - Vary stock based on printing method and which works best? - emboss on textured uncoated stock - foil on a coated smooth stock - screen print on more unusual stock - show versatility of method. - digital printing could be on printer paper - or make it look more industrial on coated stock.

Format: - passport size booklets? maybe slightly larger - be able to carry them around the print room while printing for reference. - might need to be able to fit in pocket.
