Where there’s a will, there’s a war. Having left home many years ago, Annabel returns after the death of her father and is uncomfortably reunited with her younger sister, Miriam. Having learnt of dark deeds committed both in the recent and not-so recent past, blackmail rears its ugly head and the sisters join forces in a series of comic and chilling events, unleashing haunting memories and ending in a macabre final twist...
Another classic farce from the team that brought you Run For Your Wife, Wife Begins at Forty, Caught in the Net, A Bit Between the Teeth, The Mating Game and Funny Money, amongst others. When Ferris reluctantly agrees to mind his sister’s quiet country hotel, life turns out to be anything but sleepy, as he finds himself trying to stop husbands, wives and lovers bumping into each other in assorted compromising situations!
Youth meets experience in this brilliantly witty comedy by the award-winning author of Calendar Girls and Neville’s Island. Frank, an old-hand electrician who has spent 25 years installing fluorescent signs, is joined by work-experience Alan on the top of an office block for his latest assignment, which doesn’t go entirely to plan! And when they meet again inside the office three years later, their roles are ingeniously reversed.

The Pomegranate Playwrights On Tour
Direct from London’s West End… from darkest Victorian England comes a lurid tale of folks, jokes and cloaks. Originally conceived and written by Spike Milligan, then adapted by Ronnie Barker, and now adapted by author Lee Moone as a fiendishly rib-tickling stage version for a whole new generation to enjoy. A hilariously fast-paced show directed by multi-award winner Dirk Maggs in which the roles originally created for Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe and their myriad of characters are recreated.

Madam Butterfly
Shafted!
Presented by Russian State Opera
By John Godber and Jane Thornton
Music by Giacomo Puccini, Italian Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa
In 1985 the miners were defeated and their families torn apart. John Godber’s new play traces what happened to miner Harry and his wife Dot in the thirty years after the strike. Fuelled with eye-watering honesty and true Yorkshire grit, this is a hilarious account of those whose jobs were taken and how they fought back after being shafted.
Featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a large live orchestra with over 30 musicians, this tale of the doomed love of an American naval lieutenant and his young Japanese bride inspired Puccini to write some of his most sublime and beautiful music. Set in Japan at the turn of the century, Madam Butterfly is among the most colourful and exotic of all operas, and from its theme of noble self-sacrifice spring melodies that will grip your heart.
This production is performed by the multi-BAFTA winning partnership of John Godber and Jane Thornton, whose work together includes April In Paris, BBC Radio 4 Classic Theatre, and the Olivier Award winning comedy Up N Under!

Camera in the Cotswolds
Gerry Cross the Mersey
Talk presented by Keith Holmes
Join in this musical journey through the life and times of one of our greatest 60s icons – Gerry Marsden. Gerry talks about his early beginnings in Liverpool, those heady days of the 60s and up to the present. Hear all Gerry’s greatest hits mixed with stories, jokes and anecdotes from his years at the top. This is a roller coaster ride of fun, music and nostalgia not to be missed.
The Cotswolds is a landscape of rolling uplands, lush meadows and gentle rivers. The area prospered in the Middle Ages from the wool trade and its legacy is the market towns and villages with their fine churches, merchants’ houses and charming cottages built of Cotswold limestone. Keith is an enthusiastic speaker and the talk is illustrated with his superb photographs.

Around AD 410, the Romans lost control of Britain, and Germanic migrants arrived, bringing with them a culture known as AngloSaxon. From their arrival, the kingdom of “Mercia” was born. This presentation investigates the development of Mercian arts such as the Book of Chad and sculptures in churches throughout Derbyshire, Staffordshire and beyond. Hart discusses the Mercian expressions of kingship and religion as well as the identification of local stone sculptures, beautifully carved and fully illustrated in this presentation.

Sheffield in Tudor & Stuart Times Talk presented by David Templeman
Jazz band Chronology are Brian Bestall on Drums and Percussion, Tim Knowles on Guitar and Pete Lyons on Tenor Saxophone. Their set includes smooth Latin rhythms, foot tapping swing and funky backbeats as they play their favourite Blue Note jazz standards by Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver and Chick Corea.
Sheffield is noted for its great industrial past – but few people know of its history as a small rural market town during the 16th and 17th century. This talk looks at how the ordinary man lived, worked and played in central Sheffield, as well as some of the surviving buildings from this period. Templeman looks at how the town developed its industry and laid the foundations for the industrial revolution to follow.

Talk presented by Peter Gray A historical background of the battle which was fought in and around Chesterfield on 15th May 1266. It was one of the final acts in Simon de Montfort’s Rebellion. Simon had been killed in 1265 at the Battle of Evesham but Robert de Ferrers, 6th Earl of Derby, gathered together several of the rebellious barons at Chesterfield 9 months later. Under the command of the King’s nephew, a royal army was dispatched to bring these barons to heel. What followed was unusual in 13th century history.
This celebration of The Big O’s musical legacy is quite simply unmissable as Barry Steele takes you on this specially revamped musical journey in time. Add to the mix guest tributes to stars who toured and performed with Roy, and you have yourself an incredible fusion of 60s solid gold classics and contemporary musical genius from two very distinct decades.

The Importance of Being Earnest
The (almost) Complete History of Britain
Presented by The Pantaloons Theatre Company “You must not laugh at me, darling, but it had always been a girlish dream of mine to love someone whose name was Ernest...” Everybody loves Ernest. The only trouble is, he doesn’t exist. Or does he? Oscar Wilde’s comic masterpiece gets The Pantaloons treatment in this anarchic take on the classic comedy of manners.
Presented by The Pantaloons Theatre Company Take a breathless race through the centuries in this delightfully inventive show and see the whole story of our country told in less than 2 hours. Have you ever wanted to see the life of Henry VIII as a romantic comedy or the tale of the Spanish Armada as a musical? Well, look no further than this historically hysterical show packed with songs, sketches and silliness.
By Chris Mellor
When comedian and Generation Game host Larry Grayson took to the stage for his 1994 Royal Variety Performance, little did we know of the widespread secrecy surrounding his very last public appearance. Supported by Arts Council England, this new play tells the backstage events of the three days leading up to what would be Larry’s final finale, when he be-friended a spiritual healer. The Battle of Chesterfield The 750th Anniversary May 1266 – May 2016 On Sunday 15 May 2016 you can join in this once-in-a-generation opportunity to mark the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Chesterfield. New Square, Chesterfield will become the venue for a Medieval Pageant which will involve music, dance, craft demonstrations, exhibitions and stalls. The centrepiece of the day will be a re-enactment of the events of 15th May 1266 when the royalist army under Henry of Almain defeated the forces of the rebellious barons and captured their leader, Robert de Ferrers, 6th Earl of Derby. Chesterfield 750 is a new community group, open to all, which has been set up to coordinate the proceedings. If you’d like to know more about what is planned and how you can get involved, visit chesterfield750.co.uk, follow us on Facebook (Chesterfield 750) and twitter (@Chesterfield750) or call 07739084478.
